accuracy tolerance of +45 / -35 seconds per day is terrible

    • +3

I swear every mechanical watch post has the same comment.
This is why us watch collectors have a watch for every day of the week (:

    • +4

If you want bullet-proof accuracy buy a watch with GPS-controlled timekeeping but be prepared to pay dearly for it.

I'm not sure where you're getting these expectations from but automatics have never been about accuracy and the ones that do feature very accurate/precise movements cost well into Rolex territory.

      • +3

You can get a GS with spring drive for under 10k, but then there are people that will argue that an SD is not a "true" auto

        • +5

          Well under $10k. Cool stuff!

    • I'm my experience with the 4R—I have many—they're more like +/- ~5s. The most inaccurate one I've recently bought has a Swiss movement and is +25

      • Which was that??
I hope not the Squale with SW200?

        • That's the one. Prob lower grade movement

Idk this because I've worn it 2 days max

          • @rosebank: That's a bit disappointing.

            • @O15: I don't know much about Sellitas but +25 is prob within the specs

              It's still a nice watch

        • +1

Yeah but if you're spending thta kind of money and importing from Japan, might as well get a near mint skx 009

    • The outside tolerances. I'm getting 15 seconds a day fast on mine.

I've got two Ecodrive Citzens for accuracy. This is for me.

    • Available accuracy, should you be that concerned, would be available.

Take a chance on getting one out of spec. I had my hopes up when I thought mine was out 45 seconds a day, but my chance of a personalised adjustment under warranty weren't to be.

    • So does that mean, in a week you're 5mins or so outer time?

The following are very good buys.

    Citizen Automatic NJ0130-88A $299
    +Sapphire crystal, solid end links
    -No hacking

    Citizen Automatic NB6021-68L $685
+Sapphire crystal, on the fly micro, Miyota 9 series, titanium

    MAS Aquila Oat AQOT $399
+very good value!, sapphire crystal, Miyota 9 series

    • +1

I stand corrected. The Citizen is the most interesting watch in the sale. On-the-fly micro is worth 600 alone. And titanium. Don't know how I missed that one

I got a MAS pink jellyfish the last sale

    • Citizen Automatic NJ0130-88A $299 again

  • +2

Damn. The one I was hoping for.

I gave up, and grabbed one for $590 last week. There's also a SH one in St Mary's Cashies for ~ $390 tho I didn't bother taking too close a look.

4R38A movement and Hardlex lens, but it's the nicest non-living thing I've ever had on my arm.

80 Hour reserve, hand-hacking and winding, made in Japan.

    Way to go Grasshopper.

I've almost bought this one a few times from Shiels. Almost got one for 450 but they jacked the price

      • +1

YouTube video and photos rarely do the Seiko dials justice. This one winked at me when I was five meters away from the display case when I first saw it and went home to think. Even under a 10x glass the finish is flawless.

    • 80 hour power reserve is a typo, right?
4R movements all range in 40-50 hour, 6R are around 60-70h mark.
Seikos with 80 hour reserve (9S caliber?) have prices starting around $15K AUD.

How is Citizen Automatic NJ0130-88A $299? I’m thinking to give to my husband as a engagement gift? I can’t afford above $400

    • +2

If he wants a simple auto dress watch, that can't be beat

    • +4

Like Rose said, you'll be hard pressed trying to find something better at that price. Especially from a prominent watch brand.

With the price in mind, the only criticisms I would have is that the clasp looks pretty cheap and simple and the movement does not hack.

Because the clasp does not have a lot of micro adjust and it does not look like the bracelet has any half links, this reduces the likelihood of finding a good fit.
Your husband may get lucky and this may not be an issue.
I really wouldn't be too worried about the bracelet/clasp. I think this watch would look really nice on a (brown?) leather strap. You can get nice leather straps for well under $100.

As for the movement not hacking, this isn't really a bad thing. It just means the second hand does not stop when you pull out the crown to set the time.
It's a bit annoying for anyone with OCD tendencies who want to precisely set the time (down to the second).

Everything considered, I give it a tick of approval.

      • That's the only criticism of this unit I found pertinent, but I was fortunate in that the bracelet adjusted nicely to my wrist.

An added feature, as it mean Maccas and Hungry Jacks can no longer play as large a part in my life, as they could come between me and my wristwatch..

      • +1

I should have mentioned, 42mm is getting a little large, especially for a dress watch.

On skinny wrists, this watch may not look quite right.
Ov average or large wrists, it should look fine.

Lovely watch great movement 149 dollars delivered

      • That is a very nice find!

The registered trademark symbol on the dial bothers me greatly, though. What on earth were they thinking.

      • Great deal, got a blue one for fun

        • +1

The specs read just like every Steeldive watch. Probably custom ordered from the same factory.

          • +1

@Muzeeb: I reckon all the Aussie microbrands, like this and MAS and, are made in Shenzhen. Or if they claim Australian Made, they just assemble the watch locally

    • If you want a bit dressy and a bit sporty, this is nice. Eco drive, sapphire crystal, dressy leather strap, blingy gold. $329

Beautiful dial, shame about the hole in it

    • The ones with no holes tend to be all sunburst

    • Then again how would you know it was an Etachron regulator, pretty enough in itself, that was in it ;-p

  • I wonder if we'll be getting the related Blue Moon on offer on 31/8…

  • +1

It would look good on you @rosebank as long as you promise to wear it twice.

All these are fun a different, not that expensive or exclusive.

    • I think I'd wear this at least 3 times. It's a dress watch but you can easily dress it down imo

      • Should

I have been looking for watch to wear to parties . Kindly someone be able to guide between seiko or tissot.

This is a seriously well-specced and good looking watch. Plus you can share the watch"s history at parties

        Thank you

          Are you into divers’ parties?
I thought you’re asking about dress watch :)

      • +1

Really solid watch if you have the wrist and bank for it.
41mm is already not small and the male end links are going to have this wearing a little bit larger.
        Worth keeping in mind.

This is one of Citizen's nicest watches marketed outside of Japan.

    • +1

Here's your winner in that price range:
      https://www.tissotwatches.com/en-au/t1374101104100.html

Obviously it's slightly over your quoted budget but not too far.

Tissot PRX quartz (automatic is RRP AUD $1,150). 40mm case (not too big or small), steel bracelet, dress sports design (so can be worn casual or formal). Very popular since they released it. Multiple colourways if navy sunburst isn't your preference. You can probably get it less than RRP if you shop around - lots of Tissot authorised dealers about.

      • Thank you

  • OOS

  • That NH8396-82E is staring at me.

I've got that band in silver on my Navihawk and it's pretty good. In black, rowr.

  • Anyone got a suggestion for plain stainless steel dress watch. Budget up to $1k

    • What about the Tissot Gentleman Powermatic 80 Silicium (when on sale)? The quartz version about half the price.

      • Oooo that's actually really nice! Thank you!
