ia this another solar company that will close down and start fresh after a few years.

    • +1

      As if that would happen.

$4500 deposit for $5900 system that'll never turn up? Nope … I'll give you $50 and you can leave your license with me. I'll sell it back to you a week later for $100.

SolarVIC interest-free loan: -$1400 ($29* per month paid directly to SolarVIC)

And this they call a discount :)

  • $4500 deposit?

  • Can you export to grid with that 8.5kw inverter? My area is PowerCor, which has an upper limit of 5kw from memory

    • +1

You can apply for higher but they will make it difficult for you.

Or you can program the inverter to limit it at 5kw.

  • +4

    $6300 - $1400 = $5900?

    • Nice one. They look dodgy as.

  • +1

$4,500 deposit, stupid. If that doesn't scream "we are not confident about our install quality" I don't know what does.

I paid $5,700 for 7.75 kW system with REC panels and a Fronius inverter.

With who and how long ago? Share the love.

    • Thats way too cheap.

Hi owners of rental properties. Please put something like this on your roof. Get on with it. The Install quality is probably very average or below average, due to the included cost of labour. But it's your rental property, you don't care. You already do maintenance yourself to save money on the cheap
This will benefit your Tennant's greatly. Claim your depreciation and get on with it.

For the home owners here, get a local system installed.

    • Problem with solar industry is they don't itemise their bills.

The panels would probably cost like $100 per panel after STCs so it is like $2500 for the panels. The inverter is $1200 on Ebay. Racking and parts probably $500.

They are making $3k. My 6.6kw took like 4 hours to install 3 guys on site (single story, tiled roof).

Two installs a day 6k a day for 3 guys. Everyone is minting it along the line.

And what about the costs of insurance, licensing, tools, after sales service, vehicles etc? I don't work in the solar industry, but some people seem to forget the additional costs that a business needs to cover.

        • +2

There’s good money in solar (that’s why there are so many companies). But people also forget companies aren’t 100% busy all the time, don’t have to train new staff, have to cover holidays, pay for leads, HR, have bad weather days (over 40c, heavy rain/hail etc) where companies make zero but need to pay staff.

It’s just another case where general people know a bit but feel very confident in their opinion.

I really wish we learned to be a bit more patient and willing to learn, especially after the peak of the pandemic.

          • @enigma48:

            There’s good money in solar

Of course there is if you can sell it. That is why they put up so much money into Facebook ads for such small companies.

I have a look at all the projections on payback of solar in the quotes and it is hilarious. There is some wild assumptions on how much electricity is going to cost going forward then it also assumes if you are not going to spend $5k on solar the money don't compound

If you look at grid scale solar farms etc. The reason why there isn't more of them is why would you invest in a 30 year asset with uncertainty of returns when you got less financially trained people who are willing to spend $5k and sell it to you for 5c a kilowatt hour. You going to put down $5m for a 5MW solar farm and sign a 25 year lease so you can produce it for like 2c per KWH? I've been trying to get a 5MW solar farm happening with a firm and it is hard getting planning permission because your neighbors 1km away think it is going to microwave their brains or bring bugs (but not birds that will eat them but KFC them on the spot)

There is an ABC podcast about how the researchers that perfected the modern solar panel at UNSW (AUS gov thought if it was such a good idea the Americans would get onto it, but turned out the Chinese saw the opportunity) figured out all you need is about 2 square miles of panels to power all of Australia.

        • And what about the costs of

Tradies get paid $1k a day. Use your maths and see there is $3k a day to cover all that. Imagine if you got 100% to cover your overheads.

          • @netjock: Your original comment was "they make 3k", now you're saying "there is $3k to cover that". Please re-assess your own maths.

            • @noz:

              "they make 3k"

My original comment is they make $6k for 3 guys per day.

No tradie is getting paid $2k a day. Max $1k. So for 3 guys it is $3k. Where is the other $3k a day going?

You need to get your maths right.

    • Something goes wrong the tenant will be complaining and you have to pay for call out and repairs.

  • Hi Andy how about a 25kw system, I have a shed which will hold 100 SQ meters of panels

  • +4

$4500 is not deposit, but the full upfront cost after rebate and loan…Deceptive advertising

  • It is an 8kw system because even with 10kw of panels the maximum you can get through the inverter is 8kwh. So it really isn't much of a deal.

You guys are a freakin joke asking for deposits like that!

  • That deposit is ridiculous

  • +5

If this business requires a 4.5k deposit to fund your contract with them, I suspect they don't have enough working capital and so I am doubtful they can complete the contract (without engaging on a ponzi scheme and using their next customer's money to fund this one). There are safer choices out there when selecting your installer.

    • They probably bought the $80k ute last financial year then claimed the asset write off. Not realizing you save 30% tax you still have to pay the cash.

  • +1

I hate when tradies think they can just ask for whatever deposit amounts. If that doesnt scream "my company is having cash flows problems" what is? Too many companies just take deposits and dragging the work out nowadays.

    • No incentive to do the work (buy the materials) when you got all the money.
