Should I Change Providers to Solve Internet Outage

On my 3rd day of zero internet. Presently with dodo. Internet dropped out Thursday morning. Never to return. Each support escalation takes 24 hours so my 2 support calls both involved resetting my router and plugging in alternate login and password combinations to no avail.

Im pretty done, will I be compounding my problem to switch providers or should I stick with dodo till the bitter end, i imagine at some point they will request i try things out with one of their modems so it will be mid next week if im left hanging for that.

Thoughts from suitably knowledgeable tech heads would be appreciated.

Im just on regular dsl nbn.

Have been considering a fibre upgrade.

Cheers!

    So NBN FTTN?

Have been considering a fibre upgrade.

Whilst this would help in someway, it would also help with a better provider.

    Presently with dodo

Dodo is part of the Vocus group which is also iPrimus. I would suggest moving to someone like AussieBroadband. I think there was a promo recently I saw on OzB.

Have you asked your neighbours if they are experiencing similar issues? Could there be an NBN issue in the area? Have you also confirmed that you don't have an equipment fault?

    • Just me. Only with dodo because i thought id take up a couple introductory offers and churn to save a few bucks after a deal i was on ended.

I think ill try another provider and see what happens, im the sort to hit things with a hammer and hope it doesn't compound my problem.

Have you put your address into the NBNCo website here https://www.nbnco.com.au/ to see if there's a known outage?

  • Yeah, theres no local outage in that time. Just me.

So your DoDo has become extinct? lol

      Accurate.

  • What modem are you using for the FTTN? Is a sync light on?

    • Nope. I just churned to MATE for $1.00. They tell me its active so ill check it out when i get home.

If the sync light is off then no amount of changing RSP's is going to magically make it come back on. For your sake, I hope that Mate's tech support is better than Dodo's, because the latter clearly didn't have a clue, based on what you've told us.

Barring a hardware fault at either the node cabinet or your modem, the problem is going to be with the copper pair between the two, and will require an NBN tech.

  • Maybe dodo have adopted the iinet model?
    Hack,deny,obfuscate?
Is their support OS like others?

    • Support staff were fine, i never get shitty with support staff doing their job, just 24 hours for each callback is too slow.

      • Nor do I. I do however react when they don't, or they lie to me, even if that lie is how they (company) roll.

Get onto nbn FTTP and use the 1 Month Free Unlimited nbn (New & Relocating Customers) @ Aussie Broadband. After that you can stay or swap ISPs again.

You can have Aussie BB on FTTP port 1 and Launtel ready to go on port 2. If Aussie BB had an outage you can get Launtel connected quickly and only get charged by Launtel for the day(s) used.

  • Well, ya knew the name of the company when you signed up.

  • Dodo has always been a cheap no thrills ISP, Iprimus was a good mid market ISP back in the ADSL days aka before M2 acquired them and made them a more expensive version of Dodo.
Leaptel is a good option as well for residential services.
