Updating Resume Using iPad or PC - Having Issues

I don’t have Word I’m using an iPad I do have a new PC computer which has never been set up since new, turned it on to make sure all was ok but never had chance to play around with it.

I’m pretty sure word does not come free with computers anymore and even trying to update me resume on my iPad and updated it. But it seemed to be restricted what I can do with it and when I do change a few things it looks ok but when printing it out, random place are underlined which don’t show on my online copy.

What’s best way to go about it use the PC but any cheap free Word I can use to start from scratch and use it now and again to update it.

The iPad option seems to be a pain to deal with it.

    Ummm Google docs?

    • Libre is great, use their word processor and spreadsheet programs all the time

  • Free or at cost and what can it be used on?

This sounds like a good opportunity to learn LaTeX for your resume https://apps.apple.com/us/app/latex-editor-tex-pro/id1486802…

    • LaTeX is used for professional layout of text books, so agree that it is good opportunity.

      • I wasted countless hours learning LaTeX. My god I wish I put it into Adobe InDesign instead 😩

    • I gave latex a solid crack e.g. went to a class, read the documentation, I think it's not worth it unless you regularly publish or do pro work.

I'd be interested in latex 2.0 so to speak.

The easiest way is to use the online versions of Word which is free: https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/microsoft-365/free-office-on…
This way you can do your random updates and be fairly sure it will look the same across different versions of Word.

If you really want desktop, I think if you download it and install it, it will give you a 30 day trial, or create a new account and you should get one.

The other alternative I see is to either check out a library, or to buy one (or there are cheap ones from shifty 2021 resellers).

If you have an education email (I have an old Uni one) you may be able to get it that way!

Otherwise as others say, you can go the alternative route with openoffice, libreoffice, google docs.

    • wait, Word provides a free online edition? for real? didn't know about this…

      • Yeah, its great if you need Word in a pinch and don't have the time to download for a more fuller alternative. Or if you only use it occasionally for like updating the CV.
FWIW though, the typical adage applies "if something is free, you're the product".

I used to use Openoffice as an Excel Replacement. It retained formatting in it's cells better than Excel.

  • Why not Pages in iPad OS, export to Word?

  • Google docs. Then you could use the free local public library computers to download to word or pdf.
