Budget Vacuum Cleaner from Big Box Stores

Ahoy,

My old stick vacuum died and I've currently got a pile of glass sitting on my carpet (D'oh!).

Therefore I need to pick up a new machine from one of the local big box stores (mainly target, Kmart, bigw, good guys) by the end of the day.

Stick machines have no power it seems, so I'm looking for whatever doesn't suck (or, actually in those case, does) in full size for $100 or less.

Something maybe like this?: https://www.kmart.com.au/product/2000w-bagless-vacuum-427519…

Thanks for any advice.

Wouldn't recommend using a vac with a hose for glass. It'll destroy the hose in one go.

    • Really? You reckon the glass would shred the plastic?

I've used a mate's Dyson knockoff for glass, it had a hose, I didn't notice any issues …

      • I've seen a shredded one first hand. Only takes a small hole and you're duct taping the whole thing or you have no suction.

    • Maybe if it's a paper hose or something. I've got an old vac with the usual plastic hose that's sucked up loads of glass, aluminium, steel and other metal swarf regularly for almost 2 decades.

  • If you want it cheap and you want it to suck hard get a bagged vacuum

    • I imagine it wouldnt be worth the extra hassle? What would you recommend under a hundred that's bagged?

  • haven't used it for glass in carpet, but we've had a version of this for 2 years
been ok for hair, dust, crumbs, millipedes

    .

  • I got a black and decker stick from Big W - the one made for Pets. I am really impressed it works great. Has immense suck, and battery life is great. Also works as advertised somehow can remove my dogs hair from carpet and cushions, without it getting all tangled inside the vacuum.

  • I had this one when I was younger and broker. It sucked.

The Kmart you linked should be fine. Or this one for a bit more power.

  • some people eat glass
    idk how they do it

  • had 1 of those cheap kmart vacs, they are do NOT have strong sucky but their overall build quality was ok, they also do not like water ;-)
