When an electric toothbrush package at "RRP" costs more than a typical smartphone…Mind blown.

    • +1

maybe u can use toothbrush to make a phone call in foreseeable future

      • With all that AI tech I'm surprised it can't replace all of your smart devices just yet :)

      • Would have bought if they are handsfree

    • Use a couple of years with regularly replacing the heads, it will cost more than the bathroom

    • Going down the Dyson hair dryer path

    Let me refinance the property

    • Lmaoo I know right

    • Please contact me, I am a mortgage broker, also we can arrange an isurance, get this item in cluded in your will and get this included in your prenuptial agreements .

      • +1

Let me know when I can use a toothbrush as sole collateral.

      • Apparently a "will" means nothing

      • How much does isurance cost compared to insurance?

  • +6

Note this is actually 2 toothbrushes, not one. The price of a single toothbrush normally goes for $299 from Costco (but it was being cleared at $220 a few months ago

Note that you only get 1 magnetic charger base, 1 holder and 1 travel charger case, so you'll have to share the charger and accessories between the 2 brushes.

    • Bought it from Costco, very good toothbrush

  • +2

Definitely a new way of making sure food doesn't get stuck in-between your teeth, let alone in your mouth/stomach……

    • +3

That's actually a genius way to restrict calories… not have any money to purchase those calories.

  • Is this 5 times better than a regular $50 electric toothbrush?

    • no, its 10x better! $50 x 10 = $500 what this is asking for.
RRP $1300 for a toothbrush, who the hell on this earth will buy this at rrp?

    • Some of the features, certainly an improvement over a $50 one, but I'd say only 2-3x better.

  • +3

I have the io7 and wouldn't recommend. the toothbrush heads are mould magnets so you need to replace them often with the replacements being incredibly expensive. ~$17 for one on sale.

    • +2

Yeah the brush heads are crazy.

But also even the original oral-b are often mould magnets on the bottom section, for me.

      • yep, same on my 8000 model lower part of the silicone coverage on the bottom gets mouldy. IMO the silicone coverage was unnecessary to begin with. shocking to know the problem has gotten worse with newer models!

        • +1

Wouldn’t dipping the brush head into some vinegar solve this?

          • @nicolascage: Hmm! let me try and report back!

            • @relentlessM8: please let me know if it works. I have the same problem with all 4 of our toothbrushes in the house.

      • you are not alone

    • Roughly how often?

    • agree…IO series are crap… literally

      • Could not disagree more.

I love mine, best tooth brush I have owned by far.

Dunno what you grubs are doing to get mold everywhere. I just rinse mine after use and its fine….

    • Where is it getting mouldy? Are you taking the head off each time to clean and dry it?

      • Inside the head.. inside the area the head snaps into… Impossible to clean those areas

        • I don't have this but I wasn't taking the head off each time and it got pretty foul inside.

Can you use a small pipe cleaner or something like that?

    • So you bought a expensive tooth brush but cheap on replacing the head ? 😉

    • That sucks, plus you are paying even more.

The normal brush heads are fine -just take the brush head off and rinse both the head and brush handle. it's worth getting the bundle with the 4-brush head holder and store them in there. The way they sit any remaining water would drain out anyway. You're meant to change them every ~90 days anyway.

      Not that hard.

Fancy [sounding] AI tech props this right up onto the AI wagon. Don't want to miss that.
Revolutionary technology makes sure you don't forget to brush one side of your mouth. It's not like you've done this before, right?

  • I have a Philips Sonicare and eat them v highly. Great on the gums, but the technique required is quite different to the Oral B.

RE mould, I have no issues when risking out my the brush head and leaving it propped gently on top of the brush (but not clicked in). That way, it gets rinse out after every use and also gets to dry a little.

    • +1

Probably wouldn't be good for your teeth if you eat too many of these.

  • If you drop it or slip out of your hand the spindle could get damaged.
There is real chance this happening .
Spending $650 on a tooth brush?
Will this guarantee that no dentist vist required until you are hitting 65?

    • you need to wait for Oral B to come up with a $400 toothpaste to go with the toothbrush

    • As a dental clinician, no, this will not guarantee it. Even if you brushed perfectly, you still need to floss, and have an ok diet and no major issues with your medical status that can also affect your teeth.

  • +1

Mine gets mouldy inside the head as well as the top of the brush where the head connects. Never had this on any other oral B toothbrush owned.

  • Ahahahahahaha $500 toothbrushes

  • Cheapter to opt into extras cover lol

  • Is this the one with the timer on the charger? Or is that 10?

  • When iO 10? Been holding out forever for it to come here

    • Same :(

Or at the very least the charger attachment

  • +1

I have this and confirm it's absolutely worth the price, mainly to use in the dark so my face lights up the various lightsaber colours.

    Light blue A New Hope
Green Return of of the Jedi
    Red Darth vibes

Once experienced, you cannot go back

  • RRP is a joke. Even for $499 I can't justify buying it. I usually go through 4 toothbrush yearly and usually I buy Colgate Sensitive 2 pack for around $8(RRP) or when on sale $4. I usually stock few when on sale.

For hypothetical reasons, if I paid RRP of $8 for the 2 pack Colgate toothbrush (i.e. $4 per brush) which means I spent $16 for 4 brushes for a year. So for $499, I will get around 124 brushes, which is equivalent to 31yrs of toothbrush supply. Go figure!….LOL

    • pretty sure the point of these is not to save money on tooth brushes, but rather that they are supposed to give a better clean than a manual brush. Not saying that it justifies the cost, I dont have an electric toothbrush either, but if/when i do finally get one, it would be for that reason

  • No need to get anything better than the genius 8000 or 9000. They work out pretty well on sale for the twin packs and normal price brush heads are better.

  • +1

I bought genius 8000 twin pack ($349 or $299) a few years ago, it works very well and still functioning perfectly including battery

    • yeah $189 from SS was already a good deal but claimed back $42 so ended up being $147.
