    • 100%. Bolster kills it.

How does this compare to the KitchenAid one?

Could get a much better single knife for that sort of money. The better Henckels steel has two men side by side on it.

  • Better than Global knives?

I'd take a made in Japan Global over a Chinese made knife every time.

This is their el-cheapo set made in China.
The really good ones are Zwilling Henckels with the twin graphic, made in Germany and Japan (still besties)
They have an even lower type called Henckels Everedge, made in India.

all those knives in the links are really poor quality steel. If I could get just one kitchen knife with good steel I'd be happy. I was given a set of wusthof knives and they are just as bad. The edges roll on all of them - very soft steel. Actually I do have one good knife that I use when travelling - a scanpan, less than $10 and it just shits over the rest - I rarely have to sharpen it.

  • I effing hate it when sale and especially clearance items don't display the original price.

  • You just need a knife sharpener for your existing ones.

    • shit steel will only ever stay sharp until you use it - that's the problem. Hold the edge to the light and look for the flat spots - that's why these knives don't stay sharp.

  • It ain't no Hattori Hanzo steel, thats for sure

  • henkel are a huge company, german steel isn’t about quality, more about the alloy composition and they don’t try to be as hard as VG10, and hard steel also means brittle and chips, it’s a trade off between edge retention and brittleness and the bevel angle , global aren’t an exceptionally hard steel like VG10 but a compromise between easy to sharpen, edge retention and a bevel that makes them seem sharp. all knives will go blunt, it’s how long between sharpening and if soft steel and the edge rolls and goes blunt vs hard steel and might chip. sharpness out of the box is more about bevel angle than type of steel, edge retention is about type of steel and bevel angle. global steel has higher chromium than many others so better corrosion resistance.
