Nice. Six foot should be a safe distance.

      🤣

    Is this a genuine Binsg?

    • +4

Checked my vintage Binsg collection for comparison; seems it’s the goods!

Looks like a genuine GOOD-SHE to me… But without the extra USB-A port, which is a shame.

Still, sub $20 and with a 6 foot lasoo included, you get a + from me.

      is that pronounced “Gucci” ?

    GaN this charge macbook

Only if you do it GaN Mac Style…

      • +1

I prefer to do it GaNg Nam Style?

Serious response - GaN (gallium nitride) is about the materials used in the transformer doing the AC (wall power) to DC (electronics power) conversion.

The output is what determines whether it's suitable for a MacBook - this charger is allegedly capable of 65W which makes it suitable for any model of MacBook Air, but only 2021+ models of 14" MacBook Pro (based on a quick Google search).

Can't complain about that price but only one USB-C output… to actually save space in my backpack/travel pack I bring the slightly larger GaN chargers that have 2 USB-C and 1 USB-A output ports. Just my two cents…

    • Correct. Minimum is one a one c

  • +5

How do I pronounce this brand without sounding like I'm beatboxing

  • This size with single usb c? They could have added a few more ports even if they were with lower output.

  • +1

One single port = no deal

That is exactly what i told her

      • And she replied but i have two you just never look at the other side

        • +1

          What? And risk pregnancy?!

  • OP: how often do you have a charger in your bag? Since switching to USBC, I have never brought a charger with me when going to office

    • -1

not bad for a hand carry item to the plane

    • For work? No need really as there are plenty of HP chargers around.

For uni, all the time, and I wanted a low profile lightweight charger.

A company that can't be arsed to spend a thousand bucks to come up with a name that people can pronounce and not laugh at. And sources from random manufacturers. Sure, I'll spend money with them.

  • GaN Charger

    • belongs in the Binsg

    Hi

    Cactus here

These aren't GaN based.. I'm not even sure what they're using because the controller seems to be scratched or etched off, no doubt to obfuscate…

    • They're extremely inefficient, seem to be <80% which is egregiously poor.
    • Bad power factor correction (lots of strain for your local power grid, non compliant with certain standards)
-Bottom of the barrel components inside, the transformer looked like it was from 2005 somehow and the capacitors were so old they aren't even made anymore.
-Gets pretty hot, subsequently it doesn't sustain full 65w 100% of the time if you use it prolonged.
-Missing basically every industry standard safety systems, it doesn't have adequate over current and over volt protection (cut offs are far too conservative) , didnt see any surge protection either, in certain freak conditions it likely is able to burn out and blow up your devices.

It is pretty cheap though, and the included cable makes it economical.

If you must, I wouldn't use this for any mobile devices or high value devices. It could be a decent solution for low power IoT electronics or electronics that have additional power safety baked in, or maybe as a backup of a backup charger.

    2 cacti out of 5.

    • My philosophy when it comes to chargers is that these are things you are buying ONCE either forever or for several YEARS if they're decent. This cheap charger absolutely will not last you that long.

This isn't a charger on sale, you can find this under other labels/manufacturers.. it's likely just the regular price so it's not a good unit that's just on sale or anything.

I think it's absolutely worth spending a little bit to buy a good charger, nearly all modern devices that are released are backwards compatible when it comes to charging standards like PD or QC. So something decent from Baseus, Zyron, Anker, etc that is 100w or more will last you forever.

    • Thank you Cactus. Interesting information.

Do you have a website or channel where you detail your analysis?

Would be great to see the evidence. I enjoy reading through charger tear downs from Gough Lui, like this recent power bank one.
