It’s already 2023 and Corsair still not providing sleeved cables huh

Is this the 2023 model I've heard is apparently worse than earlier ones? Can't remember the details

    • +4

Yeah. Get the RM850x which uses Japanese capacitors and is quieter.

      • yeah, the E is the economy model …. might find they cut corner to get price down compared to X version.

      • Is RMX shift still an ok model?

        • For the RMX shift, check on your case. I'm using a Fractal Design Torrent Nano and because the PSU is upside down the shift won't work.

          • @karu: Thanks I have a Corsair 4000D which I believe is a compatible case. Just wondering if it's as higher quality unit as the standard RMX850 as it's a new model.

      • Both A tier on the list, no problems with either.

Copy from a reddit post for key difference:

"The RM850x has a 10 year warranty, Japanese internal capacitors, in cable capacitors, 135 mm maglev fan, is 160mm long, manufactured by CWT.

The RM850e, has a 7 year warranty, non Japanese internal capacitors, no in cable capacitors, 120mm rifle bearing fan, is 150mm long, likely not manufactured by CWT.

They both have a zero rpm fan mode and both use type 4 modular cables."

Currently RM850x priced at 190-195 AUD, was discounted to 150-160 in the past. But I doubt any discount again for this model since they need to sell the RMe version. Personally I don't think RMx worth 40% price jump, but if you have plenty of cash and need the 10 year warranty then RMx is the better choice. Due to the compact ATX size of RMe (150mm long), it can fit in some case that RMx can't

  • is this good for 4090? it requires some sort of the new pins?

    • 850W is Nvidia minimum requirement so yeah this works, and yes this has ATX 3.0 as in title for new pins. However if you have the budget for 4090 consider to get the RM850x or even a platinum rate/1000W PSU as well when pairing with intel i9/ryzen r9 cpu.

    • yea this is more than enough for a 4090, i ran a 3090 with a 750w and 13900k. both oc'd and saw a power spike (20 ms) of 650w.

I had to return one of these a month ago due to some pretty bad whine from the coils when the fan was idling (Which is basically 100% of the time you're not doing anything intensive)

Might be worth hitting up some user reviews

    • +2

I have the exact same issue. Had the unit for 1 month and it suffers hideous coil whine in idle state. Do not take a risk with this model.

    • +2

Jumping on this to further highlight its a real problem. In the process of returning mine to MSY.

  • Good PSU, some are saying (relatively) loud fans though. Something to look out for if you’re looking for silence.

  • Will this fit in Razer Core X Chroma eGPU

    • +1

That eGPU uses the standard IEC C13 or "Kettle cord", why would you need a PSU like this for - this is a modular ATX PSU

      • Trying to put a RTX 4090 in the eGPU. Some forums say the native 600w PSU is not good enough but 850w will do.

        • +1

Ah i see, makes sense now sorry.

Then the only thing would be checking the dimensions (width) with whichever model 4090 you have… it could look like this abomination

Returned mine today, DO NOT BUY THIS UNIT!
Horrible coil whine and the fan noise is terrible due to being rifle bearing. Spend the extra coin and you will thank yourself later.
