I think you can audit any course on coursera for free

    • +1

Can you? I didn't know that.

  • Anyone else got this??

Auditing this course only allows limited access. You won’t get grades, feedback, or a certificate unless you upgrade.

    • +4

Correct. It's only to go through the content. Once you are ready you can fire up the 7 day free trial and do those quizzes and grades so you can get the certificate.

  • Does anyone know if the 7 day trial applies to the Professional Certificate aka 7 days to complete all or only each individual course?

    • yes you can complete the whole certification within 7 days, if you already learned everything in the cause. Not sure if you have to play all the videos. i think some can not be skipped before starting quizzes.

  • Thanks OP might give it a shot. Will the certificate trump my old age when applying for the uber security job?

  • +1

Enrolled, but i bet this is just like all those other free courses i have enrolled in Udemy. :)

  • +3

Can confirm I have completed this course a couple months ago in a weekend for free. Although I'm in the cyber security field so I just skipped all the content and did the tests. Was quite easy.
All of it is multiple choice or 'self-assessed' assignments so it's easy to smash through.

    • +1

Please share the answers for revision purposes thank you

      • I didn't save any info, was a couple months ago now. No rules against using google though!

    • +1

Will you use this certificate to obtain your next job and / or pay upgrade?

      • +1

In my point of a career a cert like that doesn't make a big difference but could be a contributing factor in future job searches. Might make me like 5% better than another candidate.

  • +5

Thanks, I have shared the link to [email protected] and [email protected]

  • For those who already have this cert, can you speak to how effective it has been for you to get a job/promotion by having this cert on your resume?

  • -1

The audit button is no longer there, just has start free trial.

    • +2

It is there as a link.

      • Thanks, could it be that im on mobile and cant see the link? All I see on the frame is start 7 day free trial. (No link underneath that like OPs screenshot shows)

  • Mmmm I'll join Google so I can work remotely and live on cruise ships lol

  • Isn't this technically a "hack" that can work with any course?

As an intensive user of Coursera, allow me to tell some truth about this certificate:

1, You can learn some basics of cyber security, however there is a gap between "some basics" and "job ready", completing the whole program could be considered as finishing reading a book "basics of cyber security", and that is it.
2, This is not an industry recognized certification, only an industry recognized one can impress the recruiters (eg, comptia security+,CISSP)
3, Basically you can learn anything in coursera in the same way (mentioned in the post).

All in all considering completing this program as the first step of entering cyber security field, if you expect more than that, you will be disappointed(unless you are super lucky or have some powerful friends in a cyber security company).

    • I just found out about coursera from this post and started this course a few hours ago.

Realistically, what would be the next steps after completing this program if I am looking to be job ready?

Here are another two cyber security professional certificates from Microsoft and IBM, on Coursera platform, you can use the same way to acquire them for free:

Microsoft Cybersecurity Analyst Professional Certificate (Learners who complete this program will receive a 50% discount voucher to take the SC-900 Certification Exam)
    https://www.coursera.org/professional-certificates/microsoft…

IBM Cybersecurity Analyst Professional Certificate (This Professional Certificate has ACE® recommendation. It is eligible for college credit at participating U.S. colleges and universities. Note: The decision to accept specific credit recommendations is up to each institution.)
    https://www.coursera.org/professional-certificates/ibm-cyber…

    • There is no option for me to audit the course for the Microsoft one, but for the IBM one it works just fine.

  • Started the course, seems to be a very basic level so far. Will report back once I complete (if you don't I haven't completed the course :p )

  • Great! Thanks!

FYI, you will receive 30% discount for Security+ certification once you complete this course. This is good thing.

    • Cheers. Does the 30% discount have an expiry?

  • Completed the course & received cert but no sign of 30% discount for Security+
Anyone know if I need to contact support for this?
