Garage Door Opener Recommendation

Hi all, been eyeing for an auto garage door opener and there isn't much choice other than https://www.bunnings.com.au/chamberlain-sectionallift-sectio… in Bunnings.

I would need a technician to install it as well, is this best in the market or there is a better option. Thanks!!

  • The opener part shown is only part of the installation. You also need the door tacks and door tension springs. Get the thing installed by a pro.

    • Yeah those tension springs can kill.

  • How about contact few installers and get few quotations?

    • I think he's asking for recommendations from the community on openers, not quotes. Nothing wrong with doing that and then asking for quotes from installers for what you want

This was a bit of a d#&K comment for no reason but hope it made you feel cool I guess

      • Everyone has Garage Door Opener, they works and whats there to recommend? Not that we got anything to compare with.

Installers usually carry more than one brand/model and they usually gives some rough idea between models.

  • Depending where you are, i'm in WA and 2 installers quoted me $650 last year for a superlift SDO5 installed (and service upon doing it). Uses a belt drive instead as they said its newer and smoother, no complaints about it. Was a bit worried as I couldnt find any reviews about it online.

  • If you need someone to install, just contact a few garage door installers locally and get prices.

Bunnings sell either cheap knockoffs or popular brands at RRP. They don’t do specialist stuff like garage door openers well.

FWIW I’ve got Merlin openers but for roller doors. Self installed purchased online so a lot cheaper than paying someone to install, but they’ve been reliable for several years now.

  • I think B&D are the best, as they have options such as auto-lock bolt, which prevents lifting, and cord hook break-ins.

    • Not my experience with b&d. Gear died in no time and manufacturer blames installer, installer blames b&d. Under warranty, still not covered under some wierd exclusion. Not happy. Had to pay for a replacement and another installer, works a great now, and much much quieter too.
