While its a premium price for a stunning book, some may feel its at the top end of town but its still significantly cheaper than what it normally sells for.

This book is massive, heavy and contains gorgeous artwork. Be you a fan, collector or someone wanting to flip it for a profit it certainly stands out and a must for any Potter fan.

got one for the dunny, cheers

    • +1

Absolute crap waste of time even in dunny. I would not include them along with another trash TLOTR in the top 1000 books.

Harry Potter and the Hard Core Fan.

    Standard edition is $40.
What on earth am I getting for an additional $255?

      a Deluxe Illustrated Slipcase Edition.

      @jv, you're welcome.

  • it’s the vegan edition, not bound in real leather …

    • I want my leather!!!

This is a great edition and well worth paying a premium over the standard edition if you’re a Harry Potter fan or just a fan of nice books, but this price isn’t that great; I picked this up for $180 around the time it was released and it is regularly available for around $250.

    • What is the difference if I may ask

      • Illustrations.

      • +5

Hate using this cliche but this is like the "rolls royce" of book editions. On top of the illustrations on glossy paper, the main difference is manufacturing quality:
        * paper quality - papers acid free (doesn't yellow with time), thicker (text from other side doesn't bleed over)
        * page binding quality - sewn binding (this is the traditional and superior way to bind the pages and allows the book to open flat)

Just like luxury cars, these type of editions are a joy to use. And like luxury cars, they have a price tag to match.

        • Interesting, thanks for shedding light on the differences. I might pull the trigger on something like $199 honestly.

        • +1

Like luxury cars they lose value if you use them. Collectable books need to be in mint condition to remain valuable.

I have a few Folio Society Books, which I know aren’t in the same league as this, but if I want to reread a favourite story I tend to reach for my battered paperback version. For a start often the collectable books are quite heavy to hold. However, I agree these books do tend to be very beautiful, especially with the illustrations.

        • Thanks

I agree but it hasn't been that price for a very very long time (been tracking for over a yr).

  • is this like a comic book? i have one of the books but the illustrations are not a lot. prefer if its similar to comic books.

  • +9

My only problem is as a completist, I’ll be compelled to buy the remaining 6 books too. $2000+ 👀

    • +2

Yer you can’t just own one you need all of them

    • +1

Lowest iv seen other books via Amazon is 192ish. But yes, you are correct!!

    • +1

This is a 100% the main reason not to buy. For that sort of money you can buy like 10-15 different editions. Which is overkill anyway. These books should be priced double (on the high end triple) the standard version not 10x. It’s very disappointing.

  • Wooooooow

I wish i could afford this

  • I don't even like the illustration style, lol

    • Name checks out

      • +1

Yes, that's why I picked it

  • +2

Im not convinced these will hold value in the same way the original deluxe versions do. If i was looking for an 'investment' set, thats where id be looking

    • +2

Look at price via CCC, youll see they have all gone up quite a bit since release.

This book sold for around 180 at first and now its frequently floating around $400-$450.

  • i think i had one from target for $99, ended up returning it as i thought its like a comic book.
