ShopBack Rejecting Large Cashback?

Hey all.

I wanted to get an insight as well as other user's experiences on using ShopBack for using larger cashback.

During the Australia Post Car Insurance upsized cashback deal a few months ago, I used shopback and made the ~$1000 purchase (for like ~$100 cashback). I did this on my phone, using the shopback iOS application, never left it or clicked an ad.

My cashback didn't track, and I reached out to them with the associated order IDs and all, heard back a week ago that my cashback was rejected.

"You've clicked on another browser extension after clicking from ShopBack
Other web pages or browsers (including search sites, social media, store sites, promotional or discount sites) were opened after clicking from ShopBack
Clicking through to another page from a banner, pop-up or advertisement from the store's page.
Using Antivirus, Cleanup or Adblocker applications may also disrupt Cashback tracking as tracking cookies are required to accurately track your transactions."

I know for a fact I did none of these things, I've never had any other cashback rejected, none with Cashrewards or smaller ones with ShopBack.

Does anyone else have any experiences like this? Should I just avoid using shopback from now on?

          Cheers

@gotyourback Totally agree with @akma1 @flyingcactus in regards to the econnex / energy comparison + SHOPBACK deal.

Just BE AWARE.. Using shopback since 2019.. 99% cashback tracked (10s, 20s).. no issue…. As soon as you get bigger cashback deals in 100s, never tracked or rejected and they just give you 15$ for inconvenience…

I have previously submitted all proof: click on deals submitted via SB iOS App and received confirmation email from econnex after 5 minutes of the deal.

So, I have made up my mind, not to consider the SB deal factor on purchase decision. Totally disappointed with that..

$ 100+ rejected while you can keep getting those 5- 10$ for months

          • @mountains: Hey mate, cheers for reaching out with your experience here, I do genuinely appreciate hearing from you all even if I hate hearing that your Cashback hasn't tracked as it should. It's reports like these that has led to what I described in my comment above, where we are working with Econnex to get these issues with tracking looked into thoroughly so that the process can be improved. As always, I'm happy to do what I can, where I can to help users out and hope that it's known that we are always looking for opportunities to improve.

            • @gotyourback: @gotyourback was wondering if you got my PM or should I send another followup request for rejection? Cheers

              • @akma1: Hey mate, got your message, just working through a bit of a backlog.

              • @akma1: Thanks @gotyourback hopefully you will let us know in due course of the outcome cheers

                • @akma1: @gotyourback was wondering if there was any updates on this?

I wonder if there is any scope for any sort for class action against shopback and cashrewards?

To many people have been burnt by them - myself included

  • I have had a tracking issues for both providers ever now and again, but I always wonder why they can't just link it back to the transaction? I mean your transaction for your purchase will have a timestamp, and they can see if your cashback account was opened in the last however many days, I just don't understand why you wouldn't be able to submit some kind of manual tracking claim like that usually.

Haven't used Shopback but Cashrewards was notorious for me in terms of not being tracked for large purchases, yet the little ones always did. Should have saved 100s on my last overseas trip but didn't.

    • +2

Yup, 100% agreed. We said the same thing in different words, just 8 seconds apart :)

This is why I don't use any of these cash back type companies. They are very good with the 2c and 1c cash backs but when it becomes $100 suddenly they claim that you did something wrong (which is impossible for you to refute) and they won't pay you. Not to mention the data breaches and the likes we've had in the recent past. Not worth it for me.

    • I've never bought anything just for the cashback. I think of the cashback as a bonus as I would have bought it anyway.

I've been very fortunate that I've been paid each time I remember to go into the cashback website first.

  • maybe unrelated, has anyone ever successfully got expired Cashback renewed?

I had some ca$hback then it became expired so couldn’t collect

Cancel the insurance, get a refund, sign up to a competitor. Email the insurer and let them know you're doing it because the cashback didn't track.

    • +1

As if the CS Rep at the insurer would care or know anything about any cashback being applicable. Most of the time these cashback deals are setup by different teams and aren't well communicated within the organisation.

Rejected after buying 2 business flights last year.
    Same story, very disappointed

ShopBack are notorious for not tracking large purchases items and they’ll make you jump hoops if your ever try to put a claim through, dodgy as F. Small price ticket items , no problems tracking though weird hey.

  • I only consider shopback and cash rewards a bonus… not a reason to get a deal.

Unless it’s virus protection or for a VPN.

  • +6

Need to start reporting them to the ACCC. Topcashback just pulled this crap with me.

  • I just thought I would share that my BWS purchases from Wednesday night have now all been tracked. The first one took 30 minutes, the other two 24 hours. Just over $40 each. I can now pick them up and feel more confident while destroying my liver.

  • This is concerning. If this is found to be happening to a lot of people, would ozbargain ban shopback + cashrewards and others from this platform to send a message?

  • +1

Im glad people are catching on to how bad shopback have become, They dont do anything to help just generic bs answers and closed cases without resolve.

  • There’s a reason I don’t use Shopback as primary source. If it’s only 1-2% difference I won’t use them knowing they are dodgy.

Don’t ever forget they had data leak before

I mostly grab cashback deals on their gift cards. Faster to track and confirm, and they certainly don’t have that many excuses to reject it.

Other than that I’m not really interested. I usually don’t consider it worthy to sacrifice your privacy (info about what you’ve bought) for little cashback incentives. Gift cards on the other hand, they can’t really trace what you bought with it.

  • +3

We should start an OZBARGAIN cash back complaints page where the reps can reply to the claimant.
And these businesses should be answerable like any other business.
They can't unilaterally say "bad luck not tracked" whete you have no avenue to cross check.
Or busineses should say cash back tracked on their invoice.
No need to tell how much.
Otherwise we should boycott these cashback sites which makes the money from what we are spending through.

I used econnex through the Shopback app to switch electricity supplier, expecting a $130 cashback. The cashback didn't track and after a bunch of back and forth (including screenshots of the econnex confirmation page within the Shopback app) was told by a Shopback rep that econnex didn't pay Shopback the commission so Shopback won't pay me the cashback. I'll try Cashrewards instead next time.

Yup this happened to me tol for the first time recently, should have gotten over $100 back from Dell, did everything as I normally do when using Cashback, but surprise surprise it didn't track. Rejected, investigated, then rejected again.

  • +2

This happened to me on the Microsoft Store through the Shopback app, they tried to tell me that I used another browser but I was literally in the app making this purchase as well. It was $600 with boosted cashback. After back and forth they offered me $20 as a "compensation" when the cashback would've been around $80. I just withdrew whatever was in my account months later and never used Shopback again.

  • +2

Had similar experience to get around $100 back. Then after months of following up received a similar response

I JUST WENT THOUGH ALL COMMENTS IN THIS FORUM, AT LEAST 15 PEOPLE HAD THE SAME ISSUE WITH ECONNEX!!

Original rejection number could be even more just in last 2 upsized cashback deals. Either Shopback making money out of this @gotyourback or econnex!!

    • I have been robbed $109 by Shopback though I provided all evidence.

I am still unsure why they aren't banned here.

      • +1

Hey there mate, do reach out to me here, I'm happy to take a closer look here as we've been working with Econnex to improve the tracking process on their side here.

        • I just reached out to you via DM, thanks

        • +2

Hi gotyourback, I msg'd you last week about the $171 I'm still owed. Could you please investigate as it seems no one received the eConnex cashback so very disappointed. Thanks

        • I've sent you a DM

Do we have any ETA on when can it be fixed? or some kind of assurance?? So, we just don’t relay on 50/50 chances for tracking. Bcz once if its not tracked, there’s 100% chance of cashback rejection from Econnex based on the users comments here. @gotyourback.

          • @mountains: Hey mate, I can't give an ETA mate, this will still need to be reviewed case-by-case by the team, but with a new process being built we are more likely to have success getting this fixed up for you when this is reviewed. Still working through a backlog of queries sent through to me specifically here, but ultimately the Customer Care team are still the best folks to be able to help out here as they're able to chat directly to Econnex. Doing my best to help, apologies that I can't have more info at the moment.

  • Just got cashback from PureVpn deal back in June 12th, costed me ~$85 and get back ~$97, good job Shopback.

    • Mine didn’t track and I was very very careful to make sure I did everything right. I submitted a claim and it was rejected (5 months later). It’s the only reason I went with this deal as I could have got a VPN way cheaper. Any suggestions on what to do? Escalate with ShopBack?

  • @gotyourback I didn't hear back from my DM to you. Is there a way to escalate the econnex issue beyond first level customer support? It seems that there's clearly an issue with tracking the order between shopback and econnex and it's the customer that misses out. I don't this this is acceptable and I also think it's potentially misleading and deceptive.

    • Hey mate, apologies, the DMs piled up a bit recently but doing my best to help all users out, have since replied. As I mentioned in other comments here, this issue that's being faced by a fair few users has been escalated beyond customer support, to Econnex and our wider team so that this can be resolved in a long term sense as well as for individual users.

      • Thanks @gotyourback! I can confirm that this got resolved for me.

        • Sensational news!

        • @underlord how did u get it resolved? I previously have submitted a support request for my one in June but they just denied it….

          • @akma1: I asked for it to be escalated by Shopback support and @gotyourback also escalated it.

            • @Underlord: thanks I will reply to support and see what they say cheers

              • @akma1: @gotyourback and @underloard I managed to get my cashback sorted as well thanks again

@gotyourback is the energy comparison tracking reliable now? Just wanted to check in for future transactions

  • Also just had a very large cashback rejected, purchased Travel Insurance through covermore back on 7th September for $3495 I can not even remember what the bonus cashback was at that time but I remember thinking it should be around the $500-$600 mark, it wasn't tracked in my account so reported missing cashback and sat as calculating missing cashback since and has now been rejected, no vouchers used, no click back, no opening other browsers and yet nothing, really disappointed

  • For anyone wondering. Gotyourback nor shopback ever updated me about anything about this cashback, and still no sign of it at all.

Personally I’ve completely stopped using shopback and advised all of my friends/family to do the same.

  • I had a $60 claim from the Goodguys rejected , I was told they had no record of the $1200 purchase ,

    Cashrewards always tracks for me.

    • +1

@gotyourback does not have your back. I am complaining to consumer affairs. This is a scam. Just because they pay sometimes doesn't mean they aren't keeping our money the rest of the time.

    • Hey mate, I'm sorry to hear of your trouble here, I'm always happy to help out where I can. To offer some explanation, the way tracking works is that we register the click through from ShopBack to the brand, and then the retailer will report the details of the transaction to us and attribute the sale to us, at which point the purchase will track.

Up until that point, we do not receive a commission on the purchase, and it is that commission that allows us to pay out Cashback. If your purchase does not track, we do not receive commission.

I'm happy to help get your claim escalated further to The Good Guys here to see if this decision can be reversed and the Cashback paid out, so do reach out via DM with the details and I will do my best to assist.

Happy to have the community's back where I can, and can assure you that it's in our best interest too for you to get your Cashback.

Our purchase on ASiCS was the biggest amount of the year was rejected, when SB upsized cash back and Westpac additional cash back. I have raised missing cash back but got declined with reason doesn’t related to my transaction. This is not first time shop back decline or miss track my transaction, even referral bonus they didn’t process after years. New account signed up follow all the requirements and yet not recognised by ShopBack. How can we report ShopBack to Asic for their attention?

    • Contact ASIC and tell them you want to return the order as ShopBack did not honour the cashback. If it does not help report SB to Consumer Affairs.

Has anyone ever had a transaction tracked then rejected. I did 2 Pelago transactions with upsized 20 percent cashback with no restrictions. One was $17 and the other was $111 both tracked. The $17 was approved but thr $111 was rejected and the response from shopback was Pelago wont process rewards for your recent order due to recent updates. This decision is influenced by factors like attribution to another marketing channel. Dont know what this means but i did both transaction the same on the app with no promo codes etc both tracked but the smaller one got paid but not the large cashback…anyone have had the same experience where a tracked transaction was rejected?
