Scanpan Impact 28cm Frypans $59.95 (40% off) @ Myer in-Store

20

Got a 28cm frypan to go with my new induction stove, and it was 40% off the entire Impact range at Myer. (The website is messed up when it shows up 20 cm is cheaper than 26.) The pan itself has got mostly positive reviews online and you can use your Myer Gift Cards :)

Not sure if this counts as a bargain but thought it's worth posting.

      Thanks for the heads up

  • Does it stick much? I need a pan for steaks.

The idea of stainless steel pans is that meat is supposed to stick to the pan if you don't move it around. This lets your steak form a crust. Once the crust is formed the meat will "release" itself from the pan, leaving behind a fond which you can deglaze with some wine or stock to make a sauce.
Also, you can put it into the oven from the stove to finish cooking at a gentler heat.

The tricky part is getting the pan to the right temperature first so the 'release' actually happens and you don't simply end up welding your dinner to the pan. Plenty of guides to how to cook on stainless steel out on the interwebs, I suggest you check out a few to see if the extra effort is worth it for you.

        • Pan steak?

Grill it on a Weber if you want a nice a steak :).

Here's my trick. After you finish with the pan, have washed it and it's clean etc. put a little oil in it, and use a paper towel to wipe the oil into a thin layer all over the pan. Then heat the pan up until the oil is quite hot. Then food will stick way less next time! Haven't had issues with steaks sticking when I've done this (I have this pan). Also, deglaze the pan with water, stock or wine immediately after cooking. Just dump in a little water even if you aren't making a sauce- cleans up really easily. If you forget to, it's a pain to clean later.

    • Thanks for the tips, that's really helpful. I'm gonna try this out today. Most of the reviews online is about not heating it up too much etc. I'll be using it to cook stirfries mostly, so it shouldn't be too bad.
