Connecting Deep Cycle Battery with M8 terminals

Hi all,

I've ordered a couple of Kings Deep Cycle batteries for my parents motorhome and realised they come with a M8 threaded terminal

Original batteries are RACV with standard posts.

Can these be straight swapped - does the connector/clamp just go over the M8 nut or do I need to change them over to posts?

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers

  • Do they have an off the shelf lead/terminal solution?
Maybe Jaycar has a simple hybrid connector?

  • You're either going to need to change the connections on the existing cables, or use some kind of "M8 to battery post" adaptor on the battery.

Wouldn't the best people to ask be the people you purchased the batteries from?

  • Most of these deep cycle and lithium batteries for RV's use the M8 terminals.
If you plan on keeping the motorhome, then converting the terminals to ring terminals would be the way to go (as you will be changing the battery again in future).
If you want the standard terminal, get a car AGM battery (same capacity, but don't need the cranking amps for your use case).

    • +1

yup this is what I did and it works fine

      • Yeah it should work fine. The standard terminals have a large surface area to allow for large current draw (like when starting the car).
For the RV use, you wont have the large current draw as you are only running electrical appliances which wont need anywhere near the same current capacity.
The RV batteries also have much lower cranking amp capacity, and are not meant for starting cars and the like.
This terminal post conversion kit will be more than capable of getting the job done.
