2-4-2 is an absolute dream when travelling as a 2. Need this 1 month later in July so will have a look.

  • Typo in description - the aircraft is a A330, not A320.

      Thanks. Corrected!

Not bad, wish the Aussie dollar wasn’t shit against the usd dollar, literally paying double now when I researched into accom / activities / eating out / shopping 😢

I’d have to either stick with Jetstar when on sale or either Qantas when they have their points sale next time I go to Hawaii

To give an indication on how much it’s gone up (inflation, post covid, shitty AUD) before covid fked up my Hawaii plans, the Airbnb in Waikiki I had was 1.4K and then when doing with the same Airbnb If I went today, it’s 2.8k bloody crazy 😵‍💫

    • Jetstar can have really good deals to HNL. The lowest 2023 return price was $199 for a base fare.

      • Yeah I think I saw Jetstar sales before , including luggage was $400 return-ish which is really good value. Apart from the usual complaints with Jetstar lol my only gripe with their flight is the early morning arrival in Hawaii and then the early morning flight out of Hawaii. Not a fun experience lol

First time I went to Hawaii, I was so jet lagged arriving so early, I couldn’t check into hotel, put my luggage in and then just slept in some random park near Waikiki lol, stuffed me up a bit coz I couldn’t sleep at night time lol
And yeah having to wake up so early for the flight is annoying, but advantage (if during the weekdays) at least you’ll beat any morning traffic to airport I suppose

        • Don't risk Jetstar if you're planning for a special holiday/occasion. Hawaiian has better on time performance.
Last time I did JS, it screwed up all the coordination/land bookings for an 80th birthday celebration.
It will cost you more plus lost time and stress. (Defeats the purpose of a holiday)

          • @cmyk: can happen with any airline but i've done 3 trips with jetstar to hawaii no issue so experience can be each to their own.
sorry to hear you've been screen by JS before :(

    • Best to stay further out away from Waikiki, it's overrated anyway.

  • Hawaiian airlines are hardly a full service airline. They’ll get you there and that’s about it.

Shame they stop giving those flower thingys when you arrive into Hawaii 😅

What? No point in visiting now, can't even guarantee I'll get lei'd in Hawaii any more

loved hawaii but its far too expensive to go now with our AUD. in all honesty, waikiki is a glorified gold coast. north queensland is just as beautiful.
maui is spectacular but safe to say won't be travelling there for a while

I've been to Hawaii a bunch and I still love it, but you're not wrong about Waikiki. Even though I know in my heart I'll go there again one day.

    • Subjective of course but the gold coast not very interesting imo, all too familiar. Hawaii much more interesting. Love NQ but its still pretty different. Big fans of both.

    • Agree with your point about Waikiki.

Can I ask why you won't go to Maui? I've heard from someone who lived there that tourism is important for its economy and that despite the disastrous fires the rest of the island is open. Having been there myself there's plenty of stuff to see that isn't Lahaina

      • all depends on who is going / how long you have. as a new family, i would stick to waikiki as a first time family but also hire a car so can see around oahu as well too.

if aud recovers and kids older, than yeah try a 2 week holiday and go to maui and also after they have built up again after the fires..

  • Just got back from a couple of weeks in Hawaii. Damn was expensive.
    This was my 6th trip.

I used to find it quite cheap but now it's the opposite. A combination of the weak AUD, tips now being 20% plus the mysterious 4% kitchen surcharge plus random taxes they add on, oh and the 'resort fee' whatever the hell that is.

I wouldn't recommend going to Hawaii unless you have very deep pockets. Even with cheap flights, your it's expensive as hell.

    • Its incredible how in the US businesses can getaway with such surcharges! Resort fees especially

    • gotta love the tips, hidden taxes, resort taxes

basically i would say whatever your budget for hawaii is, double it unfortunately

    • I've read about some 10% Supply Chain Adjustment fees on the bill in Hawaii

  • Expect flight delays, make sure u have enough buffer time for next flight

  • I got some Jetstar flights SYD->HNL return in November a few weeks ago for $575 with one 20kg checked bag, I was pretty happy with that.

  • Cheap flight maybe .. however there's NOTHING even remotely like cheap otherwise in Hawaii with the Aussi at 63 US cents!! You're going to pay $300 a night for a back street flea pit. PS if you must go Booking.com is doing 12% on Shopback .. 😘 .. !!

    • yes 12% shopback will help after but yeah i was looking at waikiki airbnb and easy $300 a night , thats a basic airbnb too! you'd need to easily spend $400-$500 and then yep there goes your budget..

    • Try compare the same hotels & dates on booking.com, with Shopback and without, on 2 diff browser, the price different end up the same.
Perhaps not always but most of the time/to most hotels I search

  • At least if booking direct, deal seems to have expired.
