Great noise cancelling (provided you win the refurbished lottery).

    • Just returned a refurb laptop after 2 days cos the screen died. But I've had other wins.

Sony WH1000XM3 (over ear) refurbs $194.22

    • Also out of stock!

    • I bought them 4 years ago - still running strong. Love them

  • +2

Wating the deal for Sony WH-1000XM4

  • +2

As someone that struggles with earbuds falling out, does anyone have any experience with this?

    • +1

      Powerbeats pro.
I keep going back to them for the ear hooks

      • +1

or hook type from plantronic if you dont like beats (most of ozb dont like because they overpriced)

    • +1

Jabra Elite 7 Active are the winners for staying-in-the-ear stability for me that aren't ear hooks. Virtually the same price as this deal on Amazon ATM https://www.amazon.com.au/Jabra-Active-Bluetooth-Earbuds-bui… for new ones.

Never had much luck with Sony buds. But I'm sure I'll buy these at some stage, just to continue my losing streak…

    • +1

I have these and they work their way out but don't fall out. There are meant to be aftermarket tips that solve this as the ones provided aren't good. They are excellent ear buds though as far as sound and mic go

    • +1

The memory foam wasn't to my taste so I got some Spinfit CP360 tips which I personally found to be so much better. Never come out now.

      • Did you experience drop in noise cancellation after using the spinfit? As I felt the noise cancellation wasn’t the same. I eventually got used to the foam one Sony provided

        • +6

I have used the stock Sony foam, Comply foam, Spinfit CP360 silicone and Azla Xelastec silicone.

Sony = the worst in sound quality and isolation. Can't get good isolation even on the largest tip.
Comply = best isolation but eventually will wear out. Hard to fit in ear, need to squeeze and rotate multiple times to get a good fit.
Spinfit = medium isolation and best clearest sound. Worst in staying-in-ear, feels slippery.
Azla = medium isolation, but good enough for me. On the bus I can hardly hear the engine. Best in staying-in-ear, so secure that when I take them out, it feels like they're going to turn inside out. My current use at the moment.

          • +2

@tjioer: Weird. I use the stock Sony tips, medium size and I don't even need to turn on ANC to block out background noise. They're also super comfortable.

    • +1

These have memory foam tips of different sizes and work much better than silicone. They've never fallen out of my ears (and I am semi-susceptible to falling out buds).

    • The Bose earbuds 2s are rock solid in the ear, once I got the right fins and plug combo they haven't fallen out and very comfortable.

  • i have a lot of questions abt these 'refurbs'. do they have new batteries? why are so many of them doa?

    • +6

      Plus some extra ear wax

      • +2

        crispy wax.. yummy

      • +1

I bought some refurbs. They look brand new, with new ear tips and no obvious signs of use. Unsure if this is the same for all however I'm extremely happy with mine.

        • +1

I bought some WH1000MX4's a while back and the product looked new. The box was pretty damaged. YMMV.

    • I bet there's a lot of returns for trivial things like not staying in ears, doesnt pair with phone, etc.

    • They buff the wax off them with a little tea towel

    • +1

Nah, my one, the left ear one is struggling with battery now, only last for 1.5 hours when I charged it to full, the right one can last for 5 hours.

    • +1

A lot of them will be open-box or change-of-mind returns. I doubt they've got some folks sat there opening these tiny earbuds up and diagnosing actual faults or refurbing them. Maybe a few actual DOAs, but I'll bet not many.

      • +1

In regards to previous Sony run refurb sales, some may just be box-damaged units.

However in regards to this model, many may actually be refurbished units with batteries being replaced due to the firmware debacle.

Either that or quite a few returns from fitting issues, given some find these on the larger side of things.

  • +3

Excellent earbuds for the price. I use mine everyday (work, gym, home).

  • Very happy with mine. I mainly use them at the gym. They looked brand new when I received them. Sony has been updating the firmware to add new features as well which is nice.

    • I've read about the latest firmware update trashing the battery life so have held off.
Automatic updates can be turned off.

  • +1

I was waiting on a deal for the WF-1000XM5, but this is too good to pass up, finally get Multi-point which is lacking on the WF-1000XM3s I have.

  • +1

how are these for anc? looking for something for flights

    • I only had the xm3 and some Bose qc35 to compare, but the over ears are significantly better. Anecdotally feels "twice as good". The important "annoying stressful whine" however was eliminated by my xm3 however so still orders of magnitude better than nothing.

      • +1

"annoying stressful whine" - does it work on the wife and kids?

        • I think it is the wife and kids?

      • +2

If you wear glasses, then over-ear is never going to be better than earbuds.

    • I use these on flights. The ANC is actually very good. It is better than my very old over the ear headphones. The noise suppression from the foam tips is excellent before you even switch on ANC, which helps

  • +9

I ordered these in one of the previous deal. And the unit I received was faulty. The left ear bud registered false touches and would switch noise cancelling on/off on its own.

Sure shit happens and I asked for a replacement from Sony.

The RMA process was in all honestly horrible, after 4 weeks of troubleshooting and back and forth with Sony eBay support they still wanted me to follow up with DHL to check why hadn't Sony received the original pairs back.

At which point I have had enough. I paid for a product and after 4 weeks had no view on when I can get a replacement, Sony chose DHL to initiate the return, it wasnt my problem to follow up with DHL. I cancelled my replacement and asked for a refund at that point.

Have a look at the reviews on their eBay for this product. Lots of unhappy customers with faulty products.

So what they are selling is probably not 'Seconds' but thirds/fourth now as the price keeps on going down

  • Wow amazing price and well worth it. I love mine!

  • +1

    Refurb earbuds? Ewwww….

  • Looks like I'm late.. it's marked as sold out now.

  • +1

    OUT OF STOCK!!!

  • I have this pair before: I used that about 5x5 hours every week and its battery aged into less than 1 hour within a year. I returned to Sony for warranty claim and they replaced for me. However, the same problem happened once again within a year. At the end I bought Galaxy Buds Pro 2. FYI, I suggest you google "WF1000XM4", "battery" and "issue" to prove my experience wasn't a special case.

The water-proof level was relatively lower than Apple and Samsung. The cushions are comfy but very fragile. I am going back to AirPods Pro soon but wait if Apple releases a new gen on 13th Sep.

    • +2

Thats weird, as a counter example though I've used my set for 9-12 hours every day for 12+ months now and it's still going at 80-90% of original capacity.

I rmad after the contact sensors cover flap fell off thru Amazon and got a straight replacement, went another 12 hours a day for another 9+ months and it's been the same.

      • I'd be glad for your great experience instead of mine.

    • +1

If you try <product+model> battery issue, every brand has a battery issue. For Sony, most battery issues are resolved by a full headphone reset. If you 5x5 hours every week for a year, the battery would definitely wear out in any brand over time.

    • Galaxy Buds Pro 2 just seem persistently overpriced though.

    • +2

Yes they had battery issues but Sony fixed it in new batches and software upgrades. I found alot of articles regarding that

      • That was when I've acknowledged back in a firmware version which I claimed the first replacement. They sent me the pair with newer version and the battery issues came back again in a few months. Now I preferred the integration of voice activation to assistant (Siri or Google Assistant) more than the better noise cancelling efficiency of Sony. Good luck everyone anyways.

  • more available now

  • Got one, 5 more avaiable

  • -1

    ewwww used with earwax gross

  • DAMN IT I MISSED OUT AGAIN!

    • I can sell you my used ones.

  • More stock comming?

    • new ones yeah

  • They sound Brilliant, high bass, clarity and amazing Noise cancellation. Can someone tell if this battery time is good? I watched roughly 3.5 hours long movie with NC On and they ran out of the battery after 3.5 hours approximately

    • should last longer than that

      • 🙄

  • By far the most uncomfortable headphones ever. Instant pain.

    Unusable for my ears.

Bit better with silicone tips but not by much - becomes unstable with anything but normal walking.

Also terrible pass through with the wind and mic oitdoors very bad

  • +1

I got mine from the last refurb deal. They are still working, going strong with everyday use, but the earbuds are getting old and worn out. Not sure where to get good replacement ones for cheap. I have gone for jogs with them before and they were fine for that level of activity (not more than 40min). Mine did not have any technical issues, but I did find that the mic's on these were not as good as my previous Galaxy Buds+. So I was a bit disappointed with that, considering these were meant to be top of the line noise cancelling, Sony brand, etc. They did hurt my ears with their fit in the beginning but got used to it fairly quickly. I do not recommend for people with small ears though.

  • +1

Mine were faulty out of the box, never going to touch this deal

  • +1

Not sure why this has stayed active, over the last 24-48 hours, I have clicked through nearly a dozen times and every time there's been no stock… Reported.
