‘The Memory Palace: Cyrus Tang’ is a major exhibition at Town Hall Gallery featuring highlights from Cyrus Tang’s multidisciplinary art practice. Free entry is available until 21 Oct.

An exhibition tour from the artist herself is on Wednesday 11 October 2023 from 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm. Free, though need to book.

Over the past 20 years, Tang has examined sentiments of nostalgia within memory and fantasy, fascinated by the paradox of reconstructing ephemeral mental images and sensations in permanent materials. She has explored ruins and decay of houses and cities, and of human bodies, while referencing current environmental and man-made catastrophes.

Working fluidly across sculpture, photography, video and installation, the artist has a distinctive style that embraces the materiality of her media. While her photographs and video works are presented in post-production digital format, the visual effects Tang employs are analogue, often the result of labour-intensive procedures in the studio or the field.

Tang’s work documents her chosen media going through a transformation, a convergence of past and present. The result is hauntingly beautiful works that often memorialise collective experiences.

Location is Hawthorn Town Hall, 360 Burwood Road Hawthorn VIC 3122

General opening hours:

Monday to Friday: 10 am to 5 pm
Saturday: 12 pm (noon) to 4 pm
Closed on public holidays.

In the same vein as this event it's a free exhibition, i.e. normal price is free.

    Agree, just thought I'd test the inconsistencies of ozbargain. This non-deal doesn't seem to resonate as much as the other similar one posted earlier. With that said, I'm like BariBari and got a lot out of this

  I actually saw her work at The Lume and her work is the only one that really stuck out for me enough. Really hit the nostalgia spot for me with one of the autumn tree works.
