    this game looks fantastic

    • +5

This is exactly how I would imagined "Mario on drugs" :)

    • +10

No Mario game has disappointed me, yet.

        • +7

As I said. No Mario game has disappointed me yet

        • +5

Are you kidding? You are either a gen z'er or you need to hand in your video game licence

          • @King Steuart: Ok ill bite whats a bad mario game? Or are you going to meme mario paint or something.

          • +1

@King Steuart: Lol yeah here's me who spent hundreds of hours on mario64 thinking it was the greatest thing ever back in the 90s.

            • +4

@Budju: Man, I spent hundreds of hours just on the starting screen of super Mario 64 pulling his moustache and stretching his face

        • +10

Playing Mario 64 for the first time back in 1992 is one of my "core" gaming memories and I am still chasing that gaming high from back then.

Going back to it is a bit rough these days, but man…. back in the day it was pure epicness.

          • +1

@Ruddaga: Yep, really felt like the birth of 3D gaming. Only thing that matched it since was getting into VR.

          • +4

            @Ruddaga: Mario 64 was released in 1996.

            • +2

@Dice: Yeah I did wonder was it 92/96… but couldn't bother checking the facts.

Close enough. Was decades ago lol

          • @Ruddaga: 1992? Mario 64?

Either you have a Time Machine or you meant 1996/1997. 🥲

Mario 64 released in 1996 in USA/ JAP (NTSC) everywhere else including AUS (PAL) 1997.

            • +1

@YoursTruly: I already commented about my incorrect date memory lol. ><D

        • Maybe I'm not old enough (35) to be upset by the shift to 3d, but I'd place Mario 65 in my top 5 games of all time. IMO The 2d mario games died with Mario World 2, and this looks like the first good one since.

        • +3

64 is the best Mario I have ever played. I still clearly remember most of stages and all the hidden stars

        • You speak funny words, magic man

        • +1

This guy making people act like boomers lol

          • -2

@centrelink: I can't help it that people like shit. Btw, don't forget to do your reporting online.

        • +1

Bad troll is successful troll lol

        • +1

I'm on your side! Plus I hated the controls. Given the 2D stuff they were pumping out at the time were classics, the 3D version was a bit of a miss.

The remastered version was ok to play. But I still didn't finish it.

          • -3

@serpserpserp: I know it's an unpopular opinion but it was truly shit. Going 3D was a horrible experiment, just like COVID and the 5G towers that cause it. They had perfected Mario in 2D over the decades and brought it to a state of consciousness that not even Buddha achieved. It was truly perfect. The music, the graphics, the controls. Then they sold Yoshi's soul and went 3D in a cash grab. It was the era of "bit" wars and 3D rubbish games. Mario was and is 2D. Anyone who says otherwise is a heretic and shall burn in the fiery depths of hell. Hope Trump runs and wins again.

        • +1

You like 2D Mario. Poser. The real Mario experience is in one dimensional line segments.

  • +7

Some of you could use it ;)

    ARE YOU SAYING I’M STRESSED?

  • +1

    Elephant ball. Nice!

  • +3

I’ll wait for Super Mario Bros. Wonder Deluxe on the Super Switch.

  • Is the trade 2 selected games get this free promo still on at JB?

    • Just saw it on the jb page.

    • +1

noticed no trade in on Xenoblade Chronicles 3 yet can trade in 2. Was 3 that bad?

      • No, it was absolutely fantastic!

I think it’s because it’s “newer” than 2, so they probably restrict trade in for newer items, but that’s just my thought process.

Ask JB if they can trade in Xenoblade 3.

      • Probably because copies of 2 are a little harder to find, might be better margins to them?

  • +5

First game without Charles Martinet voice….

  • +1

Still reckon Super Mario Wonder is a lot cleaner title.

    • this too shall pass

  • Is there a photo of the stress ball?

  • Lol, stress ball isn't even Nintendo merchandise haha.

  • -2

Honestly don't think I'm going to like this one based off the direct.

    • +5

      it seems fantastic tbh lol

    • Why not?

      • Scared of flowers maybe

  • Is iggy, Norton and lennie kooper in this game?

    • +2

That’s right, I did the iggy

  • I am feeling more inclined to buy digital given Switch 2 could be released next year and may have a different cartridge system

    • Then you'll miss out on an appreciating collectible 😂

    • Nintendo have shown little interest in allowing you access to your past digital purchases. Wii to WiiU you had to pay 3-$4 to get the 'ported' version to play in the wii emulator that came wth the WiiU console ( I think that was the costing from memory. )

Pessimistically I think If they do anything there will be a cost involved for 'digital /migration' such as having to be subscribed or some such to keep access.

      • +2

Flip side they were often good with physical backwards compatibility, going so far as to have two physical cartridge slots on some consoles. Think we need to wait and see on this one. The Switch 2 is likely to be more iterative than some of their past consoles, and also doesn’t appear to be any core vendor changes (still ARM with Nvidia).

Honestly think it’s reasonably likely that what applies to digital will apply to physical media also, and I’m betting they will have BC for both this time. I think they’ll be burnt bad if they don’t have BC this time, especially with Sony and MS finally doing well in this regard.

        • -2

two physical cartridge slots on some consoles

          That Nintendo is long gone.

          • @PainToad: Hard to say, its a long time between console releases

          • +3

@PainToad: I mean, if we use the Wii U example, you could also insert Wii games into that console. Their comparability has always been pretty weird and unpredictable.

I doubt they’ll have two slots on a Switch 2, but I also think there’s a good chance the memory format retains the same form factor and they just update the spec to allow faster reads, which would then allow Switch games to work from the same slot.

            • @Smigit: and gamecube on wii too

              • +1

@bazingaa: And 3ds went back to ds.

99% sure switch 2 will accept switch games, they'll push a lot more units compared to if it doesn't so it makes financial sense.

  • is there a collectors edition of this?

    • Korea is getting a steelbook edition - not sure if anyone else is though (let me know).

      • Looks like just a tin?

There's even some eBay listings that describe it as a "tin case"

        • +1

Oh, good pick up I searched for Steelbook and found ebay listings for it as a Tin Steelbook. There are Steelbook cases for some Switch games - but this does actually look more like a tin then a 'book'.

          • @Elijha: Yeah, it looked like one at first glance when I googled it.

Also, the seller might not even know if it's a tin or steelbook either lol. Or might just be rattling off keywords like AliExpress listings do

            • @jjsu: where are you guys seeing this? just on ebay?

  • -3

Hmm why is this so cheap? Isn't the normal price of most games these days $90-$100?

    • No, first-party Nintendo games are usually high $6X (from most places besides EBgames). Zelda BOTW and TOTK is generally $7X.

      • Pretty sure that when NSMB came out in 2009 it had a RRP of $99.95…

        • +1

Think it was $69.95. Maybe a bundle price? I remember they were massive for the Wii at that point in time.
Edit: $89.95 in an old Gamesmen catalog, with RRP listed as 99.95! Eye watering, nice remembering.

the super mario deluxe controls felt very floaty and felt inputs were lagged. i hope they fixed it for this

  • I ordered it from Amazon instead due to the free delivery. JB have free click and collect but it saves me the petrol costs of having to drive there and back.

    • +4

      Stress ball > petrol?

      • +1

I've kept my Amazon preorder for now but delivery is slow so will probably swap it to a JB one a day or two before launch if there haven't been any pricematch shenanigans

  • thanks for the post, never knew about this and it looks awesome, looks like a real 2D update to super mario bros from NES/SNES.

    https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=G0m_uNaSres

i have never pre ordered anything but just placed an order in Amazon due to free shipping on release day, no need to pay extra for jb hifi delivery or going there.

  • +1

Is this the game where Yoshi breaks his back carrying an elephant? 🥲

    • +1

      Wibbly Wobbly Woshi
      An elephant sat on Yoshi!

  • -1

Just realised the elephant is actually related to the game
Initilally thought JB had some stress toys that they couldnt sell and were throwing them in with the game

  • From the trailer, seems like the game is fun for all ages

  • Was thinking of preordering this from EB Games with price match, but that elephant stress ball is really tempting me…

  • is this the first true mario 2D game on the switch?
since the last one was from wii u ported over

    • Do you count Mario Maker 2?

      • probably not,
cos I was more referring to a true mario 2d game like

        new super mario bros

  • Can you use perks for pre order?

    • Since it's an EB Exclusive, you'll need to pay RRP for the game to get the bonus.

Although you could always keep the bonus, and return the game within their return period…

  • Not sure about this stress ball, looks like it would get wrecked. Needed to be a steelbook!

  • Was going to jump on this, but with the upcoming 20% off eShop credit at coles https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/799459 that works out cheaper plus I won't need to swap cartridges.

    • Yeah this is a solid point. Especially when bundled in the double deal for $135 ($108 => $54 ea after discount)

  • I have combank rewards for 15 off over 50, hope it will work with this preorder.

    • +1

As long as JB charges your card by the ”spend by" date. Thanks for the heads up by the way I also have that offer.

      • it got charged immediately (debit card). hope it would be ok then :)
