Google Rewards App - Behaviours Changed after Holiday

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone has experienced this or have a solution.

My Google Rewards App used to be quite on the mark, whenever I went to shops like Woolworths, Coles, Bunnings or IKEA, the next day the App would ask if I have been to various places where the above would almost always be a selectable option, and what I did (eg online pick up or buy instore), method of payment and if I wanted to upload the receipt etc.

A few months ago I went overseas for a holiday (Canada) and had data roaming enabled so it was connected at all times. I recall once or twice it asked about local Canadian places then stopped.

Then since I have returned, the app has been not behaving the same since. It asks for surveys less often, and when it does it lists all these strange establishments that I have been nowhere near in the timeframes.

Has anyone experienced this? And could offer a resolution?

    Mine has been really quiet in the last few months. I haven't done anything different.

      mine went quiet last year, so i un/reinstalled and it got a kick start. YMMV.

      i find that if you manually go in the app , it 'restarts'. I get at least 1 every 2 days

    The pop ups don't come as often as before, but I still get the survey on occupation/income, and if I'm a parent. For the location ones, I still have the ones for Coles, but instead of asking if I visited, it just sends a receipt task which I don't often complete. And I was away for a month.

    I got a new phone last year and only received like two surveys.

    Also happened to me in the last 2 months or so. I travelled to other cities but not overseas. Perhaps Google made some changes to the app?

    To answer your question, yes, there is some strange behaviour when going overseas and returning… I would assume Google has some GPS Spoof blocking or country IP Range validation. I see the same no-survey experience when I use VPN back to Australia when outside, but my google location history is showing Bangkok. What's interesting is when I return, it's either spammed with surveys, or none for a month or so.

    I think the fix is re-opening the app. There is something special in opening it as it doesn't seem to update automagically as easily via store updates. Time and time again I see 'rewards needs an update' when I'm in the app… and after that, boom, surveys start flowing again.

    I haven't tried uninstall and re-install.
    I haven't worked out whether to game the system by GPS spoofing to make your location history show you were at 1. store A, 2 store B, 3 store C, etc.
