Citibank cards with PayAll (e.g. prestige) - who is rolling over for another year instead of churning?

I've never paid a second year annual fee for a credit card before but i'm tempted…

20,000 points per month via payall (if recurring payment setup prior to october), which is worth about $100.

Citibank will halve the annual fee for me after calling them so $350 annual fee instead of $700 for the prestige card.

So you are looking at about $1200 worth of benefit for $350.

The kicker is that NAB may, or will, pull the rug half way through the year, so its a bit of a gamble.

  • Citibank will halve the annual fee for me after calling them so $350 annual fee instead of $700 for the premier card.

Are you sure you don't have the prestige card? Premier annual fee is $300.

How are you able to get half price annual fee? Between payall, and priority pass, I'm already making ~$1.5k yearly so it is a yes for me to keep it assuming things stay the same.

Yes it’s the prestige card. Edited.

Half price annual fee was by ringing them and threatening to cancel. The point hacks website had a good guide of what to say.

They say they will rebate the fee back to me after it’s charged but I’ll need to call them. Which would be another hassle.

    • Tried calling with the "im thinking of cancelling but would like to explore options" line. They gave a hard no for my Prestige card, but mentioned that once the annual fee has been charged ($700), perhaps I can call back to explore some option.

Did you have this reduced prior to the annual renewal date? Any other handy tips? I might try again with a different staff.

      Cheers.

Surely they would have to offer refunds if they do?

  • I'm definitely keeping this card as my main, replacing my Amex. I think the PP, 2 hotel nights, luxury transfer plus 240k pts for free can't be beat. Especially since if you hold onto the points you can take advantage of transfer bonuses such as the 2x yearly Qatar 30% bonus promo.

    • Does this Qatar 30% bonus promo happen at the same time very year?

Do you have a link to more info?

Usually twice a year since they've adopted Avios. Last year was June and November and this year they did one in June so I assume there'll be one in November.

No direct link as offer is expired but here's a link from OMAAT covering the last one.

    • Hi I've just renewed but what is this 240k points?

      • +1

20k points via Payall per month

  • +1

like many other here, still on the fee free for life for the premier card

  • Im planning on rolling mine over for the time being. Ive set up Payalls for the next few years so presuming that NAB honours the deal of 0% fee for all Payalls set up before 31 Oct for their duration, then Im definitely getting value out it. That's before including things like unlimited PP + 4th night hotel free + airport transfer service + various cashbacks throughout the year.

The card is actually not that bad value as people think. Even if you go travelling once a year, it's arguably worth the annual fee. For example, the most basic Standard PP Membership costs USD$99 per year, and you must pay US$35 for every person per entry on top. So if I go travelling just once per year with my partner, it would cost me in total USD $239 for 2x loung entry outbound + 2x loung entry inbound + $99 annual fee, which is approximately AUD $370. One occurence of 4th night free stay hotel is roughly $150-200 (lets go with $150 to be generous), so brings the total value so far to $520. $100 airport transfer brings us to $620. $10 cashback per month for the first $40 spent on Uber per month equates to $120 cash back per year, which brings me to $740 > $700 annual fee. And that's on fairly conservative assumptions.

    • Random Q - Does Priority Pass continue after the first year, is it an ongoing benefit of Prestige or is just a once off? Will help determine whether I Stay with card or churn?

      • It's with your prestige. As long as you hold the card you have priority pass. Once you cancel the card it will be canceled straight away.

  • I just set up a new payall transaction for 24 months. Got an email confirming it has been set up and it states the following:

PayAll Fees: AUD 0.00 on each transaction processed

    • The concern is what's gonna happen after 1st November.

    • Are you saying you're getting 2x 24 months =4 years of payall?

How did you do that? I get an error each time

      • I just set up a new payall transaction for 24 months.

        1 x 24 months. Where are you getting 2 x 24 months from?

        • Sorry I've been reading threads where people were setting them up for 10 years but that loophole has been closed it seems.

Churner, but I'm keeping this card.

Called up after being hit with the $700 fee; first got offered $50 rebate, didn't blink and said no, threatening to cancel and requesting for a full rebate of the $700 if I do. Then got transfered to another manager who then offered $250 credit back. I tried to push for $350 but no dice.

Better outcome than expected. Will definitely be getting more than $450 value's worth from this card for another year!

    YMMV.

  • I've cancelled my on the eve of renew for 2nd year. It was a good card to used in last 12 months. I guess i got about $2500 value out of it for $350 fee, plus about 8 lounges access (was regular business trips to NZ)

Please report back anyone who has setup payall before 31 Oct and have you been charged for Nov payall transfers?

    • +3

Mine processed last night (1/11) and paid (2/11) no fee involved.

      • Yep, same here. No fee.

      • Wow! Thanks

  • If you cancel the card (Prestige/Premier), do the points stay on your Citi account or do you have to transfer them out at the same time?

  • Holding on to this as the Citipayall is fee free for the payments I set up prior to Nov 1 2023.
Hoping to call citibank and get a reduced annual card fee when the time comes.

    • You seen / heard Anyone have any success of having their prestige card annual fee reduced?

      • Only based on the above comment from BuyLowLetsGo for rebate on annual fee.

  • Me too, I never considered paying for second year fee but PayAll alone makes profit in addition to all the perks including unlimited PP. I would keep this until Citi removes PayAll.

  • Called n they reduced annual fee to $350

    • How long before the annual fee due date did you call? I'll set a reminder for myself to do the same.

      • After it's showing in your statement

  • +4

Can confirm success with calling Citibank to reduce annual fee. Have done this successfully with 3x Prestige cards in the last week. Just said that I was thinking of cancelling since annual fee is too high, is there anything you can do to reduce this fee? After a few mins they come back and say they can give you 50% discount and refund that to your account. I waited until the $700 fees were charged to the account before calling.

    • @ctb5991 Do you know when the annual fee is charged? I want to roll into my new statement period to gather the points (worth $100 in gift cards) from the previous statement period, but I also want to close my account before the annual fee is charged.

  • I just went on live chat with them, with my fee due in a month with no luck. Seems like people had better luck calling after the fee has been applied.
Will hop on live chat again then and if not, will give them a call.

  • Has anybody cancelled their card and applied again succesfully a few weeks later (with bonus points etc). I see no exclusion period in their terms and conditions. I know this isnt relevant for payall but I would like to have the card for its benefits and the bonus boints would more than offset the $700 fee.

    • It's annoying that it's not in the terms, but they will very likely reject you (or not grant bonus points) if you held the same card within the last 12 months. This is based on past user's experiences from previous deals. This is the basic rule of thumb for all banks (Amex is 18 months)

As far as I know the only exception to this is Virgin Money who doesn't seem to have any cooldown period in practice (They are also issued by NAB funnily enough)

My fee was charged on 2/2/2024, and I called up today. I was a bit worried I'd left it too late, but followed the script, "Hey, going through my portfolio and considering closing the card, but just want to explore options". They put me on hold for a few minutes and said they could rebate me $350 as a once-off. 5 minute convo at most.

    • Did you use your card between the 2nd and when you called? They wouldn't rebate me because I had already "used" my card benefits after being charged. So I opted for a downgrade to the Premier instead which isn't too bad for myself. Just hoping the Payall transfers over fine to the new card, which they assured me it would.

      • I had made one purchase ($140) on the 8/2/2024 and also used my priority pass twice.

      • When downgrading to Premier, do you get a new credit card number or do they send you a new card (Premier) with the same card number? Reason I ask is that the card number is your account number, and that should keep the PayAll working OK with the new card.

Someone else says the downgrade worked fine for them. I might have to do the same soon.

        • I got a new Premier credit card with a new card number. My original Payall is still showing and everything else has transferred over the same (Points & transactions).
I will see if the Payall actually works next month.

          • @wangasm: Payall is working fine after downgrade

  • I've had a poor experience where they cancelled my card because apparently there was fraudulent activity (no real evidence of it aside from a text from them) which meant that they had to cancel my card and my fee free payall that I had set up before Oct last year. Happened the month after I renewed and paid my yearly fee so really disappointed as free payall was the whole point of having the card. Anyone else in a similar boat?

    • my friend had the same issue but during his 1st year

    • Had the same issue recently, has to call a couple of times to get it fix.

The first person said "It's all good, it'll automatically transfer after the fraud team does their investigation" - It didn't

Called back after a month to check up on things. The second person I spoke to didn't seem to know about payall and after a while gave me the standard "sorry but after October, there is a 2% fee for setting up payall". I argued that I wasn't setting up a payall installment but rather reinstating two previous ones. Call was escalated to a manager and a complaint was filed.

After a couple days I got the following

"In an effort to assist, we asked for a review and approval to cover the upcoming Payall fees that will be
charged on the account once you re-enrol the transactions above.

We are glad to inform you that we received an approval to cover the Payall fees on your account once you
make the enrolment. A case manager tried to call you on 12 February 2024; however, our attempts were
      unsuccessful."

I had two recurring payments and combined them into one.

I called once again to get a confirmation that was indeed okay and asked how the fee was going to be waived as it was still showing the 2% fee. The response I got was, "after the payment, reply to the email and they'll sort it out"

The payment isn't until the 19th March, so I'm not sure exactly how it's going to go…. I'll update after that

      • Apparently, it's 0.95% at the moment:

The Citi PayAll fee is currently 0.95% and is part of your Terms and Conditions including your Financial Table. This fee is set at the point of scheduling your Citi PayAll payment, applies for the duration the Citi PayAll payments are scheduled and is charged to your account each time a Citi PayAll payment is made. Please note the promotional offer of the 0% PayAll fee ended on 31 October 2023. For more information please refer to Citi PayAll fees by visiting Citi Credit Card Fees and Charges (citibank.com.au).

      • Let me know what they say. Because they basically told me to take it up with AFCA…

      • Hey I had a similar thing happen to me recently - how did you go with getting that payall (with no fee) re-setup with the new account? What did you say ? Did they honour it?

  • I just tried calling and they wouldn't offer any reduction on annual fee. They pretty much straight up offered to cancel or downgrade. Such a shame.

  • I also tried online and calling to try and get a reduction of the annual fee but they didn't want to know. They did explain however that the refund is done pro rata ie $700/365 so if anyone has any trips coming up, it may be worth holding on until after before pulling the pin.

I just called today and got the 50% annual fee reduction.

You want to go through to their account closure/fee or interest review prompt for someone to look into it.

  • +2

So….rung them again, nothing, only a suggestion of downgrading. Went online again, nothing. Decided i was cancelling, time to move on, rung up and told them i was cancelling because the fee was too high and eventually they gave me the 50% discount! Thanks "CodeXD" for the encouragement. What a carry on.

    • You rang up before or after the annual fee had been debited?

  • +1

I rung once the $700 renewal had appeared on my new statement.

    • Thanks mate, will let everyone know how I go next week when my annual fee is debitted

  • +1

I called up twice today and got two different Citi consultants: In both conversations I was aware of not stating from the get go I wanted a 50% discount (want to review my benefits with the recent $700 debited) and on both occasions was knocked back. Politely asked if there was a retention team I could be referred to, no dice. Was told that T&Cs recently changed and they weren't doing discounts on the annual fee :/

  • +1

Keep going buddy, speak to the "cancelation" team and when they ask why tell them your story. It's at that point they will offer you the discount (if they are going to offer you a discount). If things dont go as planned you always have the option of changing your mind or putting the phone down! Or better still cancel the card, it isnt worth $700. Think of it as a test, you will win. I know it's frustrating but plenty of others have done it and it's worth the effort to save $350. Good luck.

  • +1

Got the $350 fee reversal on my fourth try with customer support. The first 3 times I said I was considering cancelling the card as the fees were too high. I was only offered to be put on a lower tier card.

For my fourth try, I straight up told them I wanted to cancel as the fees were too high. The person asked to put me on hold and immediately offered the discount.
