    Good deal but covid

    • +1

Covid is not an issue anymore. We went on a cruise at the beginning of the year and no issues.

      • +7

        Good deal but pollution

        • +2

Yeah I forget about that part. Would it be less than flying somewhere and travelling around there?

          • +3

@bobwokeup: These things burn heavy bunker crude and literally dump raw sewerage into the ocean.

            They have a point

            • +2

@Drakesy: Yeah totally I just didn’t know how bad it was!!

            • @Drakesy: *Sewage

              Sewerage means sewer infrastructure

              • +1

                @Meconium: Oooh

You learn something new every day
                Thanks for that

                • @Drakesy: Thanks to you too for accepting my correction graciously! I was expecting to be yelled at for it, such is the state and nature of social media these days.

      • Not like new variants are popping up every few months

  • So is this an actual cruise or you only get a terrace view for 80k?

    • +4

Pretty great deal considering all meals are included (restaurants too) however something is telling me I would rather a business class flight.

      • Unfortunately business class flights (at least for me) are few and far between

    • +1

All the fine print suggests it's the whole cruise. Certainly, if they expect you to pay for the fees itself, then you'd have grounds to get your points back.

    • All food, essential drinks (still and sparkling water, non-pressed juices, sodas, teas and even drip coffee.), Wi-Fi, Tips, Group fitness, shows and entertainment.

  • +2

    Never spend VP on cruise

  • +2

I wish it was Melbourne or Sydney to Auckland

    • +2

      …and?

    • +1

      great, go huff some polio

      • You don't need a polio vaccine, or any other vaccine besides "that" one to get onboard…

        • +4

          Yep. Just covid vaccine.
But you can be measles, chicken pox, mumps etc unvaxxed and go on a cruise no worries.
But who cares about a measles outbreak on a cruise ship, as long as you are covid vaxxed

    • +6

I love that they don't allow the unvaccinated on the boat. Couldn't imagine being stuck on a cruise ship with such people.

      • +2

What, not even with Novak Djokovic? 🥲

      • Likewise wouldnt wanna be stuck with someone who uses poop in their username lol

    • Wasn't this requirement cancelled for all cruises? I had emails from several cruise companies advising that it was cancelled.

  • The requested quantity is not available.

    • I got that too, but managed to push it through eventually.

      • worked by going into the cart and checking out. thanks for the heads up

  • I got one, hopefully the cruise I want is still available when the access keys are sent out.

    • Same, there better be availability for all keys since no refunds if not used apparently.

      • How long did it take to get your keys? 5 days or 5 working days…?

        • I ordered mine in the afternoon on 21/09 and received the access key on 26/09 in the early morning.

  • +1

The way I see it, if you want to do a cruise, the only limitation here is getting the cruise you want. And for all the Melbourne people, it would be the 6 night MEL-SYD-HBA-MEL to maximise value?

    • +1

Most likely, but also depends on when it works to take leave, and whether you want to spend more time in Tasmania.

  • +5

Never been on a cruise but this looks like a thoroughly uninteresting route.

    • +1

The sobering reality is that the view (and service!) is just so much better from your private jet

  • will virgin send us the access key via mail?

    • Yes, the access key is supposed to be sent via email by Virgin Voyages with 5 business days.

  • +2

Came for the deal, stayed for the comments 🥲

  • It's not clear how many people can cruise in one of this cabins for 80K points.

    • +2

“Important Information” says “One or two people”

    • +2

(Promotion Period), Members will be able to redeem 79,999 Velocity Points via the Velocity Rewards Store (hosted by Collinson Group Limited (ACN 083 835 661) for a Virgin Voyages Access Key (Access Key). An Access Key will allow the Member to book a cabin (for one or two adults) on an Eligible Voyage (outlined in clause 4) with Virgin Voyages. A maximum of 1,000 Access Keys issued by Virgin Voyages will be available in connection with this offer.

      • +3

If it’s 80k for two people then it’s a bargain.

        • +2

even the prices advertised on their website are for each cabin, not per pax with min 2 as usually advertised by other cruise lines.

it's actually a pretty good deal

  • +1

Tempted, but can only really make one of the dates - if its unavailable by time i get key am i SOOL?

    • I would also like to know this. All I could find on the site is this: All Velocity Points redemptions for an Access Key are non-refundable. You may have certain entitlements under the Australian Consumer Law. For example, you may be entitled to a reimbursement of your Velocity Points under the Australian Consumer Law in certain circumstances.

  • I managed to book a key. How do I now book my cruise?

    • +1

You wait 5 business days for them to email you the key and booking instructions.

    • Wait 5 days - then go on Virgin Voyages site and book - choose the right cruise and room, and there’s an option at checkout to Validate Key

    • Do you have the key? If so you should be able to book now

  • Are there any 10-15% off velocity rewards store deals likely to be coming up before this promo ends?

  • Can you buy multiple access keys and give to mates to book?

    • Each Velocity Frequent Flyer member can redeem for multiple Access Keys but only one Access Key per redemption.
This means you can only buy 1 per transaction but can do multiple transactions if you need more.

      • And access keys can be used by anyone? Thats pretty good if you want to treat your parents or something

        • +1

Officially no. "Any resale or transfer of Access Keys or bookings is not permitted and may result in the Access Keys and/or booking(s) being cancelled without notice."

  • I think the only way to “sell
Or transfer “ these would be yo a solo traveler. Both would beed to be on the booking and the seller be a no show.

  • I was sent an email that was meant to contain the access key, but the spot was left completely blank. Is that the same for everyone else?

    • yes, unless the access key is a fullstop

      • I tried that for sh1ts and giggles and confirmed that it doesn't work, lol.

    • yeah same here - no code

    • Yup

      • I contacted the live chat support and received the following message.

"There seems to be a glitch in the email and it is not connecting the access key information, our team is working on it. They will send you another email with the access key code. I will escalate it to a supervisor."

  • +1

    Same happened to me.

EDIT: just received access key (not sure if it was prompted by me emailing sailor services), now booked. Easy process, absolute bargain.

  • I just received a new email with code.

Follow the guide if you get stuck. I was trying to book the XL sea terrace or the central sea terrace - and it was trying to charge money, but when I selected the sea terrace it went to $0.

    All booked!

    • where you able to select your specific cabin number? or does it get randomly assigned?

  • +1

    Booked mine

  • Took me a couple attempts as I was receiving 404 errors, but has finally gone through!

    • My first attempt got me a 404 on the last screen. Second attempt was successful and I received the confirmation email

      • can u pls share the contact number? i am unable to find it on their website.! thanks in advance

        • +1

          AUS: +61 (1800) 491708
Monday through Friday 8 am to 2 am EST
Saturday & Sunday 9 am to 2 am EST

  • Does anyone know how to get the email with the access code. I only received an email with a blank access code.
    TIA

    • I messaged them this morning on live chat and a support ticket was raised. I received another email with the actual code included this time within an hour. Not sure if it was a coincidence or not.

  • Booked the 6 nights. Redeemed 80,000 for $4600 cabin for two people. Is that a good rate? Either way I'm happy to finally get to use some points!

    • +2

That is insane value. Considering a business class flight to SEA is 71k and $400 at the equivalent of $2.1k one way.

      • Yep, business class flights were my point of comparison too. And this is one of the nicest cruise liners you can sail, amazing food.

  • redeemed two access keys (one last Thursday and one last Saturday) received two emails on Tuesday one with code and one without code. contacted Virgin voyage but no reply yet….anybody know if there is a number to call?

  • +3

is there going to be a ozbargain gathering on the 6 nights cruise? i suppose most of us will go for the 6 nights Mel to Tas cruise?

    • +1

Yes. Everyone wearing tshirts with an upside down pineapple.

    • If only they could count the percentage of OzB peeps lol

      • +1

We'll be the ones with pockets full of Boost SIM cards purchased through CR / SB.

  • any good cabins left?

    • Hard to tell since you can't pick your exact cabin, only the category and depends which sailing you choose.

    • You only have a choice of 2. Just booked a sea terrace

  • +1

FYI, on booking you get assigned a cabin, but if you don't like it you can call up their call centre to change cabins within the same category. You can't visually see which ones are available, but if you give them your preferences e.g. deck level, away from elevators, more mid ship, they can have a look for you…

    • Thanks, I called them up and moved from the back of deck 12 to a cabin closer to midship on deck 9.
