    Bargain …

  • +2

Depends on if it is AU stock.

  • Anyone know whether officeworks will price beat?

    • +3

Don't think so as they sell grey import

      • Did officeworks revert back to their price match policy or are you just making things up.

  • +4

"Note : “Device will be shipped after 1st November”

      • That article refers to a Bloomberg article about the delays, meaning they're specifically referring to delays in America. Not sure if their delays are going to be the same for us in Australia.

        • Yeah I know its referencing Bloomberg. I actually read the article 🙂

Delays are also happening here though. End of Oct for the Pro and end of Nov/early Dec for the Pro Max. It's actually worse here than in the US.

I am so sick of these iphone pro max "deals". Especially since there's no stock anywhere

  • +1

So what does this phone do to justify the Price?

    • Let me google that for you. Later.

    • -1

I love fake hype and fake stock shortage. What a way to make your product seem as its in high demand.

Plus all the free marketing where absolute EVERYONE is writing how your product isn't available….

So, why release it if you don't have enough stock on the pallet? You know very well how much stock you'll need for launch, you're not from yesterday… Oh yeah, fake drama and fake damand, yeah…

    • its a global release - it just takes some time for all the countries to receive their stock.

      • You do know that they ship these well before the release date right? Not like they only start shipping right after they announce it.

        • they do but they also give the sale date. Its not that they are withholding stock for hype

          • @Skullytor:

Its not that they are withholding stock for hype

Well either they are really bad at forecasting demand. Which i find unlikely.

Or they are hyping the demand by not releasing sufficient stock.

            • +1

@xoom: Seems available to pickup tomorrow from 2 local Apple stores.

      • +1

And the demand is huge, because, well, they're good and popular phones.

But yes, we're just sheep not believing Apple can't throw enough devices every year. Because, you know, they own the world and governments after all.

      • +5

I have a script to monitor stock in Melbourne apple stores, running since Monday.
There were enough stock with pickup Friday/Saturday of almost all models/memory/colours except Pro Max. Pro Max was delivery only, Oct-Nov.
Then, around midday Wed, all models were marked as "Unavailable for Pickup" in all stores. Not gradually, just in one moment.

Then, 6:10am today all stock was appearing again, including Pro Max models (Pro Max lasted for ~40 mins).

        Definitely not artificial shortage, yeah.

        • So you are saying every (!) morning Apple stores revisit the stock they have available during the hottest time of their sales? That's amazing and great. I wish Bunnings was doing that instead of taking my money without having the stock.

The same was with the macbook I needed around Christmas. I could've bought it elsewhere, but I wanted edu store discount. Apparently Apple did everything to prevent me from getting it right away at their store.

          • +1

@pizzaguy: I'm not sure about every day - I saw it on Friday, made a purchase with my gift cards and turned off the script

    • +1

      but USBC!

      • -1

That actually puts me off buying one :-D

I have too many lightning cables. If my iPhone was USB-C, I'd have to have a different cable for the ipad.

        • yeah, I love how the EU banned lightning cables to stop e-waste…. ignoring the fact the world is mostly divided into repeat android and repeat apple phone owners and all the apple phone owners have so many lightning cables etc that will be binned now it's ridiculous, so much so, apple decided to sell a previous model without even including a cable in the box because they knew everyone would have one

…fake environmentalism, they just didn't like apple's stranglehold

      • Isnt that the latest innovation from apple? Take my moneeeey!!!!

    • Every other phone maker would kill for that fake demand and fake drama.

    • true, like when someone supposedly stole an entire truck load of 7000+ harry potter books just before the new release and they were so worried they would be released early on the black market and let secrets out … so you had to quickly pre-order because of shortages and before someone told you what happens after finding out before you!!! AAARGGHH!!!! … and the story spread globally and tons of free marketing worth way more than the books that probably never existed anyway given police found the missing truck sans books the next day not far from the warehouse and made no arrests.

I don't love all the triggered non-iphone users every single time an iphone deal is posted. They're repetitive to the bone and crude.

It's not like iphone users are killing kittens. They're just spending money on a flagship phone like a Samsung user would spend…

Yeah, we get it. You'd rather have a $899 phone and have another $899 phone after 2-3 years when it's not functioning or not quite bearable anymore. And then yes, you can keep using any device for even 10 years if you don't care about certain aspects of it. Yes, you are anti-establishment and stuff. That's cool af!

    • +4

I got no problem what apple price their iphones. If only they don't influence other phone manufacturers to increase their prices.

Not to mention every release they make it sound like the just invented the wheel or discovered fire for the first time. When its very clear they are just only adding features that many have had years before.

And as drazenm said. The fake stock shortage is downright laughable.

      • "Not to mention every release they make it sound like the just invented the wheel or discovered fire for the first time."

Yeah they're the only company to overhype their own product. Pretty sure that's Marketing 101 isnt it.

      • +3

Other manufacturers don’t have to increase their prices, don’t blame it on Apple.

        • +1

For many years the $1000 price ceiling remained. It was apple that broke said ceiling. This opened the floodgates. So apple is very much to blame for starting this up trend in price.

        • +1

I'm now wondering who inspired the hike in potato chips price and I'd like to hate that brand!

    • +4

They're just spending money on a flagship phone like a Samsung user would spend…

No Samsung has a 20% launch tax they drop their price fairly quickly.. as any OzB'er knows.

      • +1

Imagine the outrage if Apple did that.

Still iphones prices would stay at certain levels. Not sure about Samsung flagship phones, but eg. Pixel 7 Pro wasn't a great investment if you like to change you phone often. AFAIK you can get a new one from the marketplace for about half the price now, less than year after it was released. And I hate to say that, as it's generally a great phone and such drops in value are creating sort of disposable culture.

        • +4

Non repairable phones are what is making for the disposable culture. Here is hoping EU bring back the user replaceable batteries to all phones again.

          • @xoom: i think 2027 requires removable batteries, thats what i've heard haven't read up on it

            • +1

@kirbycake: About time they bring it back.

              • @xoom: yeah manufacturers saying closed backs makes phones more thin and water resistance but several phones proved that it was doable such as the galaxy s5 and some lg phones. I look forward to it, I'm sure the average consumer can work a tiny screwdriver or pay someone else to replace the battery.

there's been some interesting modular phones in the past but I don't think they've received too much support longevity wise or just never took off, maybe this would see them come back

        • +1

I don't understand why my samsung s10e still runs well and has 90% battery capacity after 3 years 10 months usage. Am I lucky.

          • -1

@utmode: If you're genuinely dumbfounded by the situation, we can google something out!

But otherwise, if it's an attempt at sarcasm, please see I already mentioned cases like yours in the root comment of this thread. Yet you had to raise the hand :D

        • Totally. Apple have always created a premium culture. They control the price of their products. They don't allow more then small discounts (or you won't be able to stock their products). They make sure their products are still supported after 5-7yrs. The marketing & price certainty keep people involved in this premium almost elitist culture.

Personally I've always disliked their products as an end user as they limit tinkering. But their products have always been well made, they just work, they make the UI easy for non-technical people and they last many years.

They pretty much always have such small incremental upgrades. But they've created a desire & a cult(ure) that people don't care that it's not cutting edge. The brand just has this smugness that people love or hate.

          • @M00Cow: The tinkering idea on modern mobile phones is vastly overrated as they are so capable.

The new iPhone Pro with USB-C has upped that considerably for people who tend to tinker.

Not really a big issue anymore and when the new App Store happens, game over.

            • @Grok:

The tinkering idea on modern mobile phones is vastly overrated as they are so capable.

I mean all Apple stuff. They might capable, but they're handicapped. Or as we used to say, Apple produce products with the training wheels welded on. A single action button, a fixed UI, a single locked down appstore. That's the reason why they just work, but some of us are big boys & girls can ride without the training wheel on.

Not game over. It's NFL vs NRL.

    • after 2-3 years when it's not functioning

      Wait they stole Apples idea?

  • The 5x Flybuys points at Officeworks would be better I suspect.

    $2000 = ~$100 of FB points.

    • +1

Spend $2000 get $50 worthy FB points
correct me if I am wrong

      • Sorry your right.

  • Wow so this represents what appears to be a 1% discount? Forgive me if that doesn't seem to be worth posting as a 'bargain'.

    • -1

You must be new h… Wow, 8 years on OzB and still surprised somebody's trying to $20? :D

  • +1

    Dude

  • I don’t get why all the iPhone deals are posted, isn’t the ultimate gift cards the best discount by far? Or is that too hard to get?

I had no trouble getting 1.5K ultimate

  • -1

😲 can't believe people considering buying these things for the price. If we simply held off prices would come down to a more respective and fair price.

  • +1

$30 bucks ?? Two burgers worth. This can not be a bargain…!!!

    • Or 10 bigmacs when they're $6 for 2!

      • So what is it in softserve cones? Thats my unit of measurement.

      • 😄

  • +1

I wonder how long would it take to reach $3k…iphone 17?!

    • It is a question to PM and AUD

  • +3

Lol @ the Android vs iOS wars on every iPhone 15PM deal posted.

    • It's funny to see both sides come out, the Android value and customisation crowd, and the Apple great product and persecution complex crowd.

I'm on the this isn't a bargain crowd, irrespective of anything else, for this particular one.

  • this is surely taking the piss, right?

    • -1

Taking the piss after reading all the outraged people's comments as if they're saving me from seeing all the shiny new iphones 15 in the office in a couple of days.

  • Any ideas on how to use Ultimate GC (4 x 500 + 1 x 200) in officeworks for one transaction? Would they be able to split the payment with 5 different cards?

    • Yes works like that

  • Can anyone confirm if able to price beat at officeworks? Thanks!

    • No stock at OW so can't order it with a price beat

    • Officeworks don’t price match pre- sale/preorders

  • @dairy-coffee
please update description with this note:

Note : “Device will be shipped after 1st November”

  • Guys, do JB Hifi generally discount these much on Black Friday?
What's been the past experiences? (Sorry I've been out of the loop)
