Safety Shoes for Plantar Fasciitis

Hello everyone,

I hope you're all doing well. I've recently experienced injuries on both sides of my heels and am currently dealing with plantar fasciitis. Additionally, I've developed small spurs on both of my heels. My podiatrist has recommended that I invest in a pair of high-quality safety shoes, and he will also be ordering orthotics to assist with my condition.

If any of you have any recommendations for safety shoes that would be suitable for my situation, I would greatly appreciate your input.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

  • Do you need safety shoes for work or did they recommend higher ankle support to limit movement?

    • Yes, safety shoes required wears for 10 hours to work.

I am assuming you are not the first person that your podiatrist has seen with this issue.
Did you ask your podiatrist if they had a recommendation on 'high-quality safety shoes'?
The term 'high-quality' could mean anything.

    • They don't have any particular suggestion. They said sell me orthotics and suggest me to get a better safety shoes.

Any of the Steel blue range pretty much, they are podiatrist's go to

    • Thank you for your recommendation. I'm wearing Steel blue safety shoes right now and found it is too heavy for me.

      • Blue Steel Parkes.

Weight comes from structure. If you want light, youre gonna get shit structure and build.

The new New Balance boots seem quite good.

I used to really like redback - but I didn't have to have safety cap, so I used their lace up shoes. Be sure you have the orthotics in when you try out boots/shoes as they totally alter the feel of the shoe and raise the heel slightly - well mine do.

  • Thank you so much of sharing your experience to me.

Sorry, can't help with answering your question, but I suffered from plantar fasciitis for quite a while and got over by following the other train of thought….

Rather than supportive shoes, lots of cushioning and expensive orthotics, I went the opposite and did foot stretching and strengthening, lots of barefoot walking and light minimal shoes to strengthen my feet.
I am now back running long distances pain free after thinking I would never run again

I found the exercises in this video really good

Not for everyone and may not be for you but worked for me…

Gastrocnemius stretches would be the primary help. It's usually posterior column tightness causing PFitis.

Most people cannot barefoot walk or run. Some foot types can tolerate it.

I would definitely recommend Shockwave Therapy.

If OPs gait is (profanity), then he does need orthotics.

Agree about the barefoot not being for everyone, but I found it forced me to improve my gait and not land on my heel, thereby strengthening the foot and reducing stress on the PF. And it has to be a very gradual introduction otherwise introduces other problems.

I am not full-on barefoot but try to wear as minimal a shoe as possible.

        • Thank you for sharing with me.

    • Thank you so much for all the information.

I feel your pain, I had the same thing, tried many different safety shoes and boots and finally got the New Balance shoes. Really comfortable and plantar pain has gone. Hope that helps

    • Thank you, New Balance is on my list too.
