What guarantees can you give that Qantas won’t cancel all lifetime memberships in few years?

    • That would be one of the most stupid decisions ever made by Qantas. Its been around for 20+ years and with additions such as LTP.
FFs would get serious compensation through litigation.

  • Love to also see total time spent, including nominal travel time to/from the airport, time at the airport before departure, layover time. I assume there's no hotel stay required?

Chuck in the environmental cost in carbon emissions, too.

No hotel stay required, 11:55pm service from MEL-AKL arriving at 5am. QF1 arrives at 6am and leaves at 8pm. MEL-SYD, 1875 return trips to make it to LTP.
Carbon emissions? A (profanity) shit ton

So unless you fly very regularly, it's better to just purchase lounge access.

I like how all of the statuses give you "priority" things - you're still going to be herded onto a plane like cattle so what's the difference if you're not flying business or above.

  • Calculations are in the right ballpark.

I've spent (well the company or clients have) over $750K on a combination of economy, business and first flights on QF as much as possible but some OW partner airlines, and am only half way to LTP. So factor in double status credits and we'd be there.

    • Im on 58k currently scheduled to hit LTP in tne next 4-6 years. Im lucky that my international schedule is pretty accurate 12 months in advance, so when March rolls in - can book everything using DSC.Dont wanna look at how much I've (company) spent but I wouldnt be surprised if its up there with your figure.

      • Good luck!

I must say it will be hard to let go of P1 if and when the time comes..

Would be more "real world" if your three methods also had variables in booking class, higher costgs but higher earning SCs. Perhaps the business is normal fare (D fares) and first, fully flex (A).

        • For me, everything is auto C/J. First is generally Saver.

    Good story bro

Most people who get lifetime status dont pay for their flights anyway, their employer pays for the tickets

  • Assumes flying only on Qantas it seems? Best value $/SC usually going to be with oneworld carriers overseas (where business class fares are generally cheaper) and maximising the respective SC earn table. My personal benchmark for a SC run is $2/SC, any more than that I don't see the value - you can get pretty close to this occasionally during DSC promos on Qantas if the right sale fare pops up at the same time, typically some sort of eccentric routing domestically leading to AKL or NOU.

    Qantas Lifetime status

So what do you get for this then? Lets see

    https://www.qantas.com/au/en/frequent-flyer/status-and-clubs…

So basically they might not lose your bag and you get to board first. How exciting for $500k!

    • and you get to make your own toastie before your flight and maybe get a beer (if its past 12pm)

There was a time I chased status like a mad donkey, even paid for a couple of round-the-world fares in Business Class and racked up around 1,800 SC per RTW itinerary. Then I realised what a silly way to travel. Having status is one thing, but having status to fly economy is more silly - and that would suck hard. I would rather be a nobody status member and have a confirmed First or Business Class ticket than take my chance and luck into an upgrade.

  • 35 status credits off getting silver for next year :-( but have to do it in the next 20 days… status credits seem so hard to get when you don’t travel like weekly for work

    • Have you got Green tier? If not, see https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/727004

That’ll get you 50SCs. Mind you, silver doesn’t offer much (priority check in, a lounge pass and better seating. The value is in the USA where it gives free checked bags).
