How to Earn The Qantas Green Tier in The Cheapest Possible Way

This is not so much a deal but a hack, unlock five of the six categories and you get 10k points or 50 status credits. This works best if you're about to book a flight, it's not worth it booking a flight for the 10k bonus points.

More info here:
https://www.qantas.com/au/en/frequent-flyer/status-and-clubs…

1) Reduce your impact - do the quiz on the qantas well-being app (free)
https://go.qantaswellbeing.com/BLwWpIP4Pnb?utm_medium=referr…

2a) Give back (3,200 points)
Go to the Qantas store and choose from Ozharvest, Unicief, Kimberley Land Council or Great Barrier Reef foundation
https://store.qantas.com/au/c/gift-cards-and-vouchers/charit…

2b) Sustainable lifestyle. ($15.00 or 1,900 points)
While you're at the qantas store, choose TAS. I chose $15 going off the ozbargain rate of 1c per point which is better value. You also earn 150 points paying via $$$.
https://store.qantas.com/au/p/offset-your-home-and-car-tas-c…

2c) Choose sustainable ($1.00 or 130pts)
Before you check out at the qantas store, put this in your cart. I chose $1 going off the ozbargain rate of 1c per point which is better value. You also earn 10 points paying via $$$.
https://store.qantas.com/au/p/climate-positive-delivery/2022…

3) Offset flying (varies with distance but for Sydney-Canberra one way is $0.45, usually only a couple dollars at most for domestic flights)
Before you check out and pay for your flight

And that's how you achieve the 5 out of the 6 green tier criteria and get your 10,000 points!

Total spent:
3200pts plus $16.45 for 10,160pts
or 5230pts plus $0.45 for 10,000pts

I haven't included the 6th category sustainable travel because this is exxy and not worth it. But perhaps a fellow ozbarginer might find a cheap gem to share with us all.

Thanks for the info but does anyone even want to fly with Qantas anymore?

  • +1

how long did it take for the items to process?

    • It varies between activities some are a few days others are weeks it’s listed at the bottom of the page https://www.qantas.com/au/en/frequent-flyer/status-and-clubs…

Edit: I did it three categories yesterday and checked today and it got updated. (I already had one category ticked off ages ago and I’ll do the carbon offsetting activity later today will update you once im officially green :)

  • Can you do the carbon offset on Classic Rewards flights on Jetstar?

    • As long as it’s booked via the qantas site I don’t see why not

  • Can you do the knowledge test again or is it a one off? I did it last membership year and now it doesn't appear in the app (even when linked)

    • Yes I’d like to know this too? Spent 15 minutes on hold to the Wellbeing app team then gave up.

    • +1

You shouldn’t have to, I’d phone or email them about it

      • Classic Qantas - "completing system upgrades" today, so are not able to help anyone

    • +1

from reading the australian frequent flyer forums, you can contact them to do the quiz again

      https://www.australianfrequentflyer.com.au/community/threads…

although it seems what you actually have to do is hit 4/5 and then contact them and they just manually give you the last leaf.

      • Yes can confirm. Once I had 4/5 complete I emailed Wellbeing and they adjusted manually. Easy 10,000 points, thanks OP 🙏

  • do i have to be booking a flight to get it? ie doing everything except step 3?

    • +2

You can skip the flying category and book a sustainable travel hotel but I think that would be more expensive

  • +2

underrated post - great way to make some points. Well done on the write up!

  • Nice, shame I don't have the 3200 points lol

  • earning it in one membership year you retain it for the next, but do you get the 10k points/50SC again?

edit: answering my own question, you retain the status but

Qantas Frequent Flyer members can achieve the Green tier on an annual basis. You’ll receive a new choice of reward during each membership year that you complete at least five of the six required activities.

Where's the upvote for OP. This is just awesome.

    • +2

You're too kind, I put this as a forum post as it's not really a deal unless you fly so no upvotes here

  • +1

Just FYI - To be eligible for Green tier activity, Climate Positive Delivery must be purchased alongside another item from the Reward Store.

    • +1

Yep made that mistake, undecided how to rectify it with a second purchase

  • Thanks for this, just did most of them, now to wait for it to update =)

  • I've done the quiz on the app over a week ago and it's still not showing up on my account, how long does it normally take?

    • try contacting customer service

  • @fordghia

  • Hmm, I just tried this about half an hour ago, they charged the $16 but didn’t deduct the points. No order in order history and no email, should I wait or call?

    • Wait for today then call :) Black friday/ Cyber monday is probably clogging up the lines

  • If you register with BP you can get Qantas points for fuel

  • thanks for the write up.

  • Make sure you double check which charity you select. They are specific about it.

    • yes only one of the four i listed

  • Doing the quiz for a family member but don't want to stuff up the quiz. Are there answers posted anywhere?

    • +1

you don't get marked down for getting a wrong answer nothing to worry about.

  • 20% off boxing day sale.
Climate Positive Delivery is now 104 points.
Ozharvest and Kimberley Land Council donations are 2,560
No discount on Offset your Home and Car

    • an excellent find cambam!

  • I've recently offset a future flight (March 2023) with points, but the list of activities to get green tier has not been updated. Does it get updated after the travel, or should it be sooner? Thanks.

    • after travel

    • +1

I have recently offset a future flight (Oct 2023) and I was able to get the green leaf after three days of offsetting the flight. In addition, the second passenger on the same booking also gets the leaf on their account as well.

I want to also bump this with a tip on step 2(c) above.

Follow the suggestion of using the $1 for sustainability delivery and add it to your cart. The item I found to be most economical was a Country Road tea towel in the Qantas store which for cash (instead of using points) was ~$13. So I just checked out and paid ~$14 (~$13+$1) to have it shipped (I think its actually more expensive at CR!).

    Hope this helps.

    • your charity and sustainable lifestyle purchases counts for delivery too ;)

      • yes but they cost more points. It all dependant on how you value points.

For example, unless you are churning CC for sign on bonus (I dont do that anymore), points gained via flying is pretty low. I was disappointed to see a fully paid business class ticket from SYD to Auckland only gave me 4000 points.

        • You will need to complete charity and sustainable lifestyle to get the green tier my dear ;)

          • @bettina44: my dearest dear, are we still talking about 2(c)? we might be talking past eachother…

            • +1

@Bargainitis: put 2a and 2b in your cart to complete 2c. No need to buy anything physical.

              • @bettina44: that…I did not read properly then!

                others take note!

                • +1

                  @Bargainitis: yes that's why I made the steps 2a, 2b, 2c so people see they are linked/related. Hope it's a towel you'll use anyway :)

  • April 2023:
For some reason, I wasn't able to purchase Give Back with Climate Positive Delivery
Or Tasmanian Sustainable Lifestyle with Climate Positive Delivery

Don't make my mistake, don't purchase Climate Positive Delivery on its own!
Like Bargainitis, I'm now a proud owner of a Country Road tea towel too 😂

    • Strange I managed to

      • Just after the initial checkout page, I get a Qantas failure page saying 'critical error'
Tried three browsers, thinking that was the issue.

I was able to buy Give Back and Tas Sustainable Lifestyle individually, which was why I ended up paying for Climate Positive Delivery on its own (and realised that doesn't count)

        • +1

That sucks, have you contacted customer service?

          • @bettina44: Nah, I didn't bother when I saw this in the T&C's on the bottom of the page:

† Qantas Marketplace: … To be eligible for Green Tier activity, Climate Positive Delivery must be purchased alongside another item from Qantas Marketplace. View the full terms and conditions. Adding Climate Positive Delivery to any purchase in Qantas Marketplace will be recognised as a Green Tier activity within 24 hours of your purchase.

I've unlocked my Green Tier now, even though my Country Road tea towel hasn't shipped yet 🙂

            • +1

@wutang01: I'd say sustainable lifestyle and give back are part of the qantas marketplace but only I'll guess I'll find out when i purchase it next.

  • Now with the Qantas Wellbeing App deal off the tables, its not worth it for the 10k points BUT its an easy way to count towards attain or retain status with the 50SCs

  • +1

You should probably mention also this is by far the cheapest way to earn 50 Status credit if you're chasing after status.

  • Restarting a bit of an old thread. I’ve tried to follow the instructions but get all sorts of errors. Is it because I’m trying to purchase sustainable delivery with the donation and Tasmania offset? Do I need to buy an actual “item”?

    • It's been awhile since I succeeded (back in April so it seems).

I tried buying everything in one checkout, but the system didn't quite like that.
I recall having to do it one by one:
      - I was able to buy Give Back and Tas Sustainable Lifestyle one at a time.
      - I think I bought Climate Positive Delivery with a Country Road tea towel, because I couldn't purchase it on its own. bettina44 had better success on this point.

      • Thanks. I managed to buy Climate Positive Delivery and Give Back in the same transaction but paying only in points. Then could buy the Tas offset for $20 in a separate transaction. Very fiddle but hopefully it tracks!

        • +1

I figured out what I must've been doing wrong a year ago.
I was trying to pay points + $1 for that Climate Positive.

Your suggestion "but paying only in points" worked for me!
