[NSW] Manly Fast Ferry Fare Decreased to F1 Ferry Rate, Joins Opal Card Benefits @ Manly Fast Ferry

900

At last something positive. Fast Ferry will now count as part of the opal benefits like transfer discount, daily and weekly caps. Plus their weekend $8.50 daily cap cap (Friday-Sunday soon)

No longer stuck with the normal one!

From Sunday 1 October the Manly to Circular Quay Manly Fast Ferry service will see fares fall to the same single-journey price as the F1 Ferry service, and the same array of Opal benefits offered across the Opal network will kick-in.

The 20-minute Manly Fast Ferry ride will be bundled into the daily and weekly transport caps, with discounts applied when transferring between multiple modes of public transport under the Opal Transfer Discount.

The change means more than 700 NRMA-operated Manly Fast Ferry services a week will be accessible under Opal fares, opening up choice, service frequency, and travel rewards for passengers.

As part of the Opal integration, new ticketing gates for the Manly Fast Ferry service are being installed at Manly wharf 2 and Circular Quay wharf 2A.

Once in place, passengers will be able to use their opal card, contactless card, or digital device to tap on the Manly Fast Ferry service.

You will need to continue to tap on at the Manly Fast Ferry payment terminal, until Opal gates go live on Sunday 1 October.

Here comes the riff raff on the fast ferry

    • Bintang singlets and Kmart thongs..

tip: enjoy a quiet ride on the F1 while the Fast Ferry gets crowded

    • Often the fast ferry isn't even faster. lol

er yes……it actually is…very much so.

        • +1

Not if you look at the schedule. F1s and MFFs both have 20 minute trip times. You can see all the services on Anytrip.

          • @Techie4066:

Not if you look at the schedule.

How about actual time vs scheduled time?

Haven't been on one for a while but I used to do this trip every day. F1 was 30 mins and MFF was 20 (the older Jetcats did it in 15). And if you are anywhere along the shoreline it's quite obvious that one is moving much faster than the other.

@1st-Amendment: The new Emeralds which now operate the majority of F1 services do it in 20 mins (scheduled), often quicker in reality - you can see them on the Anytrip map. On par with the Fast Ferry.

I've done some googling and found the MFF uses the Incat Hull 078 and 081 with service speeds of 24.9 knots, the Emerald's speed is 26 knots and the Freshwater's 16 knots (was brought back into service after public criticism).

Does it cut its way to circular quay?

    • -2

Sydney’s only Fast Ferry Service between Circular Quay and Manly.

The perfect comment from Gen X.
      Don't be so Reckless.

  • Nice. Will take myself and the kids next weekend .

Will do a few trips with the $8 weekend cap

Another tip: My NRMA members save up to 25% on OpalPay on the fast ferry

    • I don't think that discount is valid any longer after this, because it won't be using OpalPay but just a regular Opal ferry fare. You'd have to go up to the counter, ask to buy a ticket and then say you want to pay with your Opal Card, explain that you don't want to tap on but use OpalPay to pay.

    Manly Ferry

    Are there any effeminate ferries?

Did you just assume my gender preference?

Female 1: "He has a Cronulla Chest"
      Female 2: "How so?"
Female 1: "It is far from manly".

With the all the issues on the Manly ferries themselves, the skeptic in me wonders if this is a step towards privatising the Manly ferry.

As a passenger, why catch the slow ferry if the fast one is the same price and on opal.
Then as the government, why operate the slow ferry if it doesn’t have the passenger numbers.

    • It's just a compromise. Good deal for the passengers, crap deal for the government.

    Even better idea- leave Sydney!

    • +1

Yes……best way is via the Fast ferry….oh…wait…is that not your intent???

  • +3

For weekend trips, the slow ferry is much better to enjoy Sydney Harbour.

I think they have been operating only 5 trips a day of the slow ferry on the F1 line (weekends?)
Need to check timetable carefully for 30 min trips if you want a slow ferry.

They still have a regular F1 service but the rest of the trips are on a cat and take 20 mins.

Pretty sure the Hydrofoil in the 80s was only 15min. 40 years later fast is 5min slower LOL

    • +1

Ah, yes the Hydrofoil. As a kid, that was awesome. Outside on a sunny day, the wind blowing your hair and going through the Heads. Great memories. But now, I appreciate the slow ferry, taking in the scenes of that harbour and savouring the experience.

  • Bring back the Hydrofoil!

Meet me down by the jetty landing
Where the pontoons bump and spray
All the others staring at their phones, standing
As the Manly Ferry cuts its way to Circular Quay

I wonder when the water taxi will come under opal. The one that goes from circular quay to Watson's Bay. I am envious how at the Watson's Bay terminal people go straight across to Manly. I mean why is there not a Manly to Watsons Bay ferry that's usable with the opal card?

  • How fast does the ferry go over ocean?

  • The only public transport option with a Licensed Bar Onboard.
    and the prices aren't stoopid.

      Best venue for ozbargain meetup.
2 trips back and forth (dont tap off).
