  • is Westinghouse Electrolux?

    • +1

Westinghouse is part of the Electrolux Group.

    • +1

Usually Electrolux is positioned at the higher end than Westinghouse

      • +2

Westinghouse products have lasted for me, personally i find Electrolux is cheap stuff that breaks in 3 to 5 years

        • -6

Electrolux is a rubbish brand makes low end products, was thinking the same as you but after a fridge and vacuum cleaner

          • @yuisakas: I have an electrolux washer and dryer separate. 8 years and still going, not once made any issues.

        • +1

Only the ones made in Australia back then nowadays it's Thailand I wouldn't think so

        • yeah bad experience with Electrolux products, I wouldn't buy again.

        • +1

From my previous research, the products are identical and just have different facades - when trying to get them approved for safety and whatnot prior to sale, there's often just a single product number submitted for the Electrolux/Westinghouse/Simpson and probably Kelvinator (not in all cases, obviously)

4 star energy rated for those in QLD who can avail themselves of the government rebate

    • +4

I think you will find it is only 3.5 star

      • +1

Doh! I was looking at the review score not the energy rating. Good pick up

Can't see one in stock anywhere in the Adelaide metro area. Need to factor in $199 shipping.

    Update -

Betta have it for the same price.

Also, looks like some local stores have stock. Plus, their shipping is $119.

    This or iphone ?

  • do we need to get plumbing done for water outlet?

    • Depends. The fridges come with a flexible hose that you use but it only goes so far. Generally, the fridges have their own plumbing (assuming you want to utilise the ice/water function).

    • Yes

    • Yes, but a monkey could do it unless it’s a tricky run.

  • Based on how those shelves look my mum would absolutely hate this fridge… something along the lines of it lacks usability.

  • Plumbing water supply needed.

    • +1

I just bought a 635L Samsung and the house had an existing plumbing supply, but because it had a 15mm connection, I had to replace it with a 20mm one.

I tried using a thread reducer but couldn't get it leak free.

Overall it took several hours and a couple of trips to Bunnings. There's so many potential points of water leaks behind the fridge now it's a little scary.

Non plumbed might be the way to go for some.

      • +2

Yeah I don't mind filling up the water every now and then. One less point of failure if you ask me.

      • +1

Put moisture detector back there, I have seen deals for them on here sometimes.

We have an Electrolux fridge (model EHE6899BA) and it has been a nightmare. This is a different model I know but I just wanted to give our experience. Has had several electrical components replaced during and after the warranty period and when using the middle drawer as a freezer it freezes a line that runs from the fridge down the back and causes it to pool water in the bottom of the fridge. So far not seeing the same issue using it as a fridge but now we have a lot less freezer space.

It has another issue now where the lights on the front of the fridge are not lit so you can't change from water to ice on the dispenser. You can get it working by turning the fridge off and on again but it doesn't last long before it stuffs up again.

    Edit: This is ours

  • What does the fridge taste like?

    • You'll know once you figure out what the fox says.

    • +1

      Crisp

  • Warning : Large fridges can be very hard to resell. Ask me how I know, lol. Had one up ages without a bite and it's even still got warranty. Okay, it's not quite French door fridge sized, but lots of secondhand shops won't even take em.

    • +4

      Obviously asking too much.

      • I bite my thumb at you, sir. I'm asking 30% of retail price with 2 years left on the compressor/majors, it's mint, and I bought the next model size down of the same one.

        • +10

Thats too much, like this one you resell maybe $500 but you asking 30% of retail price which will be $1300,who will buy a 2nd fridge for that price?

          • +2

@yuisakas: 30% of, not "off". 70% off retail pricing, as in the price it's currently selling for. I bite my thumb at you too, sir.

It seems I've awakened the 2023 holier than thou criers society. Back in your hovels, scum.

        • 30% off RRP or 30% off what you paid?

If it is the former, then 30% off RRP for a second hand fridge isn't going to get much interest considering there are usually sales.

          • +1

@sena86: 30% of, not "off". 70% off retail pricing, as in the price it's currently selling for. I bite my thumb at you too, sir.

        • +1

I don’t think resale on fridges is good in general. People buying are taking a gamble and it’s easy to damage it whilst moving. I’d say $200 would be about the price point for a large second hand fridge in good condition.

          • -1

@morse: Id say its a 1400 retail fridge and youre dreaming.

            • +2

@Ademos: I think transport is a contributing factor, not many people have vans, trucks or utes to move such a big item. Same with a large TV.
Services like Uber Carshare have made these more accessible, but then there’s the issue of loading and unloading.
You might have better luck if you offer delivery.

              • @wikiwiki: Good idea. Airtasker has crew that'll do it for 100 ish. Thanks.

            • @Ademos: Lol - I suppose it depends how quickly you want to get rid of it. You’d have to wait a while to find some willing to pay what you’re asking. The second hand fridge market it usually people with a very low budget, so it kind of doesn’t make a difference how much it cost originally. Most people who can afford more will buy new and just get one within their price range.

        • +1

It costs $70/hr to hire a single removalist, $100/hr for two where I am. They charge the time it takes for them to get to the location and the trip back. If I were to get a big one I can’t move myself, I have to factor in the cost of two trips plus tip fee when I dispose it. You would be able to sell it at a better price if you included delivery, which would not be easy I guess because they are so bulky.

    • Of course, people don't tend to buy second hand fridges, they're hard to pickup, and people don't upgrade them like they do other things so the market is very small. Better off giving to a relative or friend to pickup and let them deal with disposing of their old fridge…

  • Dont bite your thumb off.

  • What are your opinion on the external ice/ water dispenser? I want one as I drink lots of cold water & use ice, but I've heard lots of issues (ie breaking down etc).

    • I've have the WQE6870BA for about a year. The ice dispenser works fine. I was a little bit disappointed with the water temperature, as it wasn't anywhere near as cold as my old Samsung.

That being said I've gotten used to the chilled water now instead of cold water.

      • I guess it's only as cold as your fridge temp, which I'm used to. If I want it super cold, I can add ice.

        • Fair enough we have an older LG fridge, but my understanding is with plumbed in water it will never be cold. It's not storing any water (except for the small amount in the pipes). It's really just a tap in a different place and it's filtered.

    • +1

I have the Westinghouse version of this fridge. It's about 18 months old and has worked flawlessly.

The water filler is a bit slow if doing large bottles of water. But I have 10m of hose and dual water filters so it's probably install related.

They are extra complexity and I'm sure will eventually lead to issues but the wife wanted them so it was non-negotiable.

      • So we compromised! lol

  • I've got the single door fridge only model , water mechanism stopped working , only fix was to replace the whole door, as the mechanism is non repairable, lucky enough Electrolux came to the party and only charged the service fee of $150 , the replacement door would have cost close to $800 if they didn't….

  • So most competing retailers have it for the same price and charge less for delivery.

    Where is the apology?

every Electrolux branded fridge I've experienced was always noisy

  • Went to see this today. Absolutely loved the functionality of the fridge and wanted to pull the trigger really badly but the size is just too big for me
Comparing it to other fridges in terms of compartments etc, it was really great

It could be the frost free function kicking in? Bascally my understanding theres a heating element behind the condenser that kicks in to de-ice the system every now and then. If your thermostat is located too close to this i guess you could theoretically see this in the temperate readings and large variations.

Its the reason food keeps longer in a deep freeze than a cyclic defrost or frost free fridge.
