What Is The Most Expensive Thing You Have Ever Owned and Currently Own?

Getting bored at home so I am curious to know what is the most expensive thing you have ever owned or currently own?

I think for me it is my gaming pc setup which is over 4.5k if i include desk monitors.

Never owned a car otherwise I assume most people would put that.

I am prepared for the houses.

But curious about other stuff that is not the obvious like lambo porsche or waterfront property lol

      Human with life insurance policy

        You own a human?

    • Pretty much the same.

      1: artisan gluten free bread
2: double serve of smashed avo

      Best day ever.

    • what kinda couch?

      • Harvey norman 2 seat electric recliner. Paid fool price for it, but worth it.

    • -5

Yes almost everyone in that order unless they also have an investment property which come in at no.2

I suspect many big TVs would come in ahead of the couch

      So..

      1. House/Home
      2. Investment property
      3. car
      4. Big screen TV
      5. Couch

You think you own your wife and children? That is strange.

    Children

    • +26

What's the resale value on those nowadays?

      • +55

You joking right? I have to pay money for someone to keep them for a while.
If I don't take my kids back - they charge $2/minute.

        • +9

not a problem if you earn $4 a minute

        • +20

I have three kids and no money… Why can't I have no kids and three money

    • +5

I would've thought that the wife would be more expensive!

      • +4

        Wife or ex-wife?

        • +12

Now you're opening up a can of worms! 😂

      • +1

Definitely the wife. The kids don't know about all the expensive extra curricular activities she signs them up for.

  • +4

The obvious ones (by far) are apartment (six figure value), followed by car (five figure value)…. and too many things to name in the four and three figure value ranges.

    • +18

      marry me

    • +1

Do you own the house or does the bank own it?

      • +14

Well, right now, I own more than 80% of it.

        • +17

grats, assuming you worked hard for it and hopefully you enjoy it

    • house (seven figure value), followed by car (six figure value), and too many to name in the five figure value….

      • You're obviously doing better than I am! Mine's pretty much bare minimum!

        • +1

house was six figures, then it quadrupled. Wish I had that in cash!

          • @Logical:

house was six figures, then it quadrupled.

Damn. .that was a pretty good pick! Mine hasn't appreciated at all - that's what I get for living in a city apartment! My mortgage payment is half of what my rent was before I bought it though. So kind of winning (not as much as you!), in a way.. lol.

Wish I had that in cash!

You can! But a bus shelter or something similar wouldn't be as comfortable! lol

            • +1

@bobbified: my partner mentioned selling up and getting another (but smaller) place, it would have to be a major downgrade though and life is too short to live in a shoe box… so we stay put for sometime i guess.

          • @Logical: You can lol.

          • +5

@Logical: 6 figure car? HIgh yield investment AMG?

  • Wife, by far.

    • +1

      you don't own your wife.

      • +34

        The wife owns you!

        • +14

And you're probably the cheapest thing she owns

          • +15

@brawndo: I tried to re marry my ex wife but she found out I was just after my money

  • +1

How are we to calculate the level of expensiveness of property?
Is it the current market value? Do we need to deduct our mortgage value from that?
Or is it the purchase price (less mortgage value)?

    • I calculate expensiveness at the end of ownership.

Property can cost 6 figures but if you can end it with profit then its not expensive.

    • Current market value.

Kind of like if somebody asked what is the price of a PS5 today and not on release or after afterpay deductions.

Just the face value market value some stranger would see.

  • +1

Car at $32k, or a CD collection which currently sits at around $6k

    • +1

Just out of interest, how do you put a value on a CD collection?

      • +4

        easy….. $1 per CD.. 6,000 CDs…. equals $6,000! jks!

I was actually about to ask the same question!

        • You can go to Discogs and find out how much your music is "worth".

So, get an account, use the App to scan the barcodes of your music,
and then save those releases, to see your collection's "worth".

      • +10

I decided to get rid of my CD collection, the second hand CD store bought 3 of them and refused to even take the rest for free.

I'm going to assume it cost $6k and probably appreciated about as well as cheap wine.

        • +2

hang on to them, one day when everything is streaming and you cant buy discs ill bet value will go up

      • +2

Sealed rarities and a signed rarity - collectors and fans go nuts for some of the ones I have, especially signed after one of the vocalists passed away

        • I have a full set of 16, all sealed, plus a signed copy of the rarest CD

A set of the fist 6 (the rarest of the whole set) recently sold for $4.2k, without a signed CD

          • @linkindan: Care to share the artist - just curious

            • +1

@Noblejoker: Username is Linkindan, so I'm going to guess Linkin something.

Edit: maybe not of there's 16 CDs

      nice coaster collection my dude

      • Coasters? I’ve made over 50k profit reselling CDs on Discogs as a side hussle the last 5 or 6 years.
        3712 orders and counting…

  • At the time of buying:
    Car: 19k
    Samsung TV: 1.5k
    F&P Oven: 1.8k
    Bosch Dishwasher: 1.5k

But if it's my gaming PC, including all peripherals together, would be roughly 2.5k to 3k

    • +3

You installed an oven and dishwasher your car? Nice

      • Bank probably owns the house.

  • Definitely house to both questions and the unasked 3rd question of "ever likely to own".

If I disregard the obvious house, cars, camper trailers etc then bicycles would be next followed by some of my tools then some of the PC builds.

  • +14

My Honda civic which I bought for $5k but after all the fully sick mods is now easily worth $50k

    • If you'd said Honda S2000…..

    • +1

Did @pegaxs' mate, that does the fully sik car mods have a hand in it?

      • +3

Yep, lowered, chrome’s, removed exhaust, momo suck off valve, skull gear stick, 76” sub, RGB lights
