Not a huge fan of Rebuild version, but $20 for kit is a bargain. Usual pre-order, but we've all got backlogs anyway right?

Pair with Calibarn.

Damn. Already bought earlier for $20.38. Should I cancel and reorder?

    • Once you cancel, it might sold out.

  • These Gundam deals are great! Grabbed Calibarn already, plus some of those simple stands so I can display my HGs.

I already got this one for 30, but at least its motivation for building it in the next 6 months so I don't waste 10 AUD!

  • I got the MG 1/100 MS-06S CHAR'S ZAKU II 2.0 for $39.19 from Amazon JP today. Amazon JP items seems to come and go.

    • Damn for real? I need that.

    • @kurusawa whats good about zaku?

      • +2

Even though the MG Zaku II 2.0 is an old kit (originally released in 2007), its inner frame is still lauded to this day.

        Have a look at this:

Compared to the latest "Zaku" style MG kit, the Gunner Zaku Warrior released in 2019:

I have no clue what this means, but I still gave you an upvote.

            @corgi-runner: Haha! Thanks, mate.

To put it simply, the 16+ year old Master Grade Zaku II Ver. 2.0 and its many variants are still great kits, even when compared to more recent Master Grade releases.

Some people might see the kit's original release date and be put off by it. However, it's very much worth it to get yourself one of these if you have any interest at all in Master Grades, especially if the price is around $40.

            • @gtazn: Thanks for the info! So much to learn.

Where does someone start with this if they just want a cool looking mech that is easy to put together? I like the look of the red Zaku and the Zowort Heavy mechs.

                @corgi-runner: https://www.gundamplanet.com/grade-comparison

All the info on HG/RG/MG/PG you could ever want.

Basically HG is the entry level (don't worry about EG entry grade). Cheap and cheerful. More recently released HGs actually have a lot of mechanics within them. I'd start here if you're just dabbling because as you can see, you'll only be out around $20.

@corgi-runner: Have a look at the new Witch from Mercury line up. They are great HG kits. Easy to put together and good looking. Calibarn and the Full Mechanics Aerial in particular. Might also want to grab a cheap random HG to practice cutting, sanding and panel lining on. Have fun!

@corgi-runner: Like others in this post, I'd recommend starting with a HG kit. Since you like the look of the Zowort Heavy, the HG Zowort would be a great kit to start with. It's part of Bandai's newest range of HG kits, and it's a steal at the current sale price of $20.29.

You'll also need a nipper to cut the parts out. I'd recommend the Tamiya 74035. It's a very good all-purpose nipper, and reasonably priced too.

                • @gtazn: Thanks for the tips. That HG Zowort looks right up my alley.

Any reason why the nipper is more expensive than the actual kit?

      • I thought it would match the MG RX-78-2 3.0. The reviews looks favourable and it is under $40 insta buy

What is up with all these Gundam posts? Me no likey

    • +3

Sorry, I'm trying to stimulate the economy.

  • I dont understand. Some gundam listing says will be released in 2024 but there are hundreds reviews already?

    • Its just a placeholder date for stock.

      • oh i see i thought its like bluray release date

    • Basically restocks, but they put it as a pre-order.

    • Bandai just reprints the kits. I don't think they retire them, but you don't know when they are going to reprint them especially the older kits.

  • I would order but will my house guests want to bash me if they see this on my bookshelf

    • +1

Then you should no longer invite such guests to your place then. Bashing people based on their hobbies is very immature and plainly rude tbh.

      • i ask will they bash, not say they will bash

        • I don't see any reason why they should bash your display.

Would this be a good piece for first timers/beginners? Otherwise I’m open for any recommendations to start off with. Not looking to spend more than $30-50

    • +1

if you can spare 20 bucks to find out, get this one, if you only want to spend 14, big w has a couple of Entry Level builds that takes less time to build and you can snap the pieces off with your hands. if you're indecisive you can get that, but if you want bang for your buck, might as well get this one, do your research between the grades and you should be golden, you'll need a hobby kit cutter for this one but not for the big W entry grade ones, good luck

      • How is the jump in difficulty between the grades? Like HG to RG? I guess I’ll try this out and look towards RG since they look pretty nice and more in line with my budget atm. Cheers for the suggestions

        • for me atleast its not the difficulty, its just the time, the RG is more detailed so it would have more steps and more parts and stickers, which translates to more time, I just started 3 weeks ago myself and it took me 4-5 hours to do a HG and roughly 7-8 hours for an RG. It just gets tedious at times and you need a lot patience. One important tip that I've read somewhere is that if it feels like a chore, stop doing it and take a break.

        • I found with RG what really took time were the stickers. A fine pair of needle nosed pliers and a lot of patience and squinting really helped but I can see it being a real pain in the ass for the those with stubby fingers or terrible eyesight.

    • Try the EG Nu Gundam for $15.40 at Amazon Japan. Also the new WFM kits like Aerial are quite good to start with.

This page looks like a pretty good summary.

My own recommendation is to not even bother with EG (Entry Grade), and just go straight for any HG 1/144 scale in the $20 to $30 range from any of your favourate Gundam anime series. Or just any that appeals to you visually.

FYI: even though these kits are being advertised as Preorder - they are actually in stock. Proof: my HG Guel's Dilanza has already been shipped today even though it was listed as Preorder.
