  • Does anything out like this support WhatsApp?

I've been looking with no luck. I want to disconnect and detox from the web for a bit but can't seem to find anything that will keep me at least in touch with people like WhatsApp.

Any suggestions will be appreciated. :)

    • no whatapp.

      • With it had NFC to support google pay app.

Jokes aside, a button phone with Spotify and NFC for payments, I'd snap it up in a heartbeat. Still waiting on a Nokia QWERTY revival.

          • @TheDukeOfNukem: You could get a smart watch with Spotify and NFC.

A smart watch with buttons, like a Casio calculator-watch - that would be cool!

            • @bargaino: I've got a big ol' TicWris Max in the drawer somewhere. NFC doesn't work on the thing properly or else I would have stuck with it honestly. Pretty sweet.

The KaiOS phones had a (shitty) YouTube app, Facebook, pretty sure Twitter, and also What's App. Or WhatsApp, however you write it.

I had the 8110 banana phone a few years back with it. Never used it, so can't comment on the quality of the app, but it was built in. Also had a shitty version of Google Maps. Or a different map service, either way, it did navigation which was pretty cool.

Anyway, seems Nokia has moved away from KaiOS which is a shame since the shitty little S30+ they use pales compared to the OG S30 and KaiOS at least had some smart modern stuff.

I thiiiiiink some of the Nokia flip phones still use KaiOS. I bought the 4110 or whatever number, the one with the built in headphones, last year, and it's back to the S30+ so don't bother with that for Whatsapp.

Use whatsapp on your PC for when you need to send messages once a day or whatever. web.whatsapp.com

    • I was in same situation before, but I instead used a old smartphone. Eg: I used samsung s5 when S10 was released, that way my phone was too slow when using apps which made me use it less and still have them in case of emergency.
Also with limited storage I had to install only needed apps.

You could go for the xiaomi qin series. Not a true dumb phone but a small screen and keypad which makes the use of common apps less desirable. Heavily considered this for travel as I wanted a cheaper, simple phone that still supported banking apps.

      • I looked into that but I don't think it supports any of the bands here in Australia.

        Can anyone confirm?

    • Uninstall WhatsApp

I would like to stay connected to the world slightly.

    does it have snake?

    • yes. but not the classic one.

      • +1

It is much prettier now, and lets you use 2468 as well as up down left right. People forget the horror of playing Snake with just the up down rocker in the day.

        • The true original was left right on keyboard, back in the Apple II days :D

Would recommend the Nokia 110 for 6 bucks more, it has a camera but is otherwise more or less the same.

  • Anyone knows if we can do hotspot with this?

    • No. 8110 did, not 100% sure, but I would assume that it was a feature limited to the more advanced KaiOS lines of Nokias.

    • No Wifi or BT.

      • +1

^^^ It does have Bluetooth for file transfers and audio.

Burner phone! himm, That's apple fanboys' usual snobbism! I have not burned my Nokia.
