Best BYO Phone Plan?

My Girlfriend just got back from living in Japan and needs to get a new plan. She's got a phone, so probably just a BYO Phone plan would be best. She doesn't use her phone that much, so probably something around the $30 mark.

I've done a bit of research myself, it seems like Virgin Mobile have a pretty good BYO phone plan… But I was just wondering if anyone has any other suggestions.

Thanks in advance!

If you already got your own phones, then I think many OzBargainers would recommend LiveConnected.

Check out their current promotion with $20 starter pack fee weaved.

Virgin Mobile $29 BYO only gives you ~$450 calls + 250MB data (although unlimited calls Virgin to Virgin). LiveConnected "M" gives you $500 calls/text to anyone + $500 calls to other LC customers + 1.5GB data each month — at just $11.99/month.

    • Cheers, Scotty… I'll check it out!

    • the virgin $29 BYO cost $19…

  • telstra pre paid

TPG's $17.99 looks pretty damn good. $550 credit, 1.5GB Data and unlimited calls to TPG Home/Mobile

Yep! I recommend the above TPG BYO plan.

The whole $550 credit is available for use on international calls as well.
While Live Connected/Optus/Telstra do not include international call in their cap.
Only TPG, Vodaphone & Virgin include international calls in their cap.

So with TPG, your girlfriend on call her mates back in Japan without any extra call charges as long as she take note of her $550 credit cap usage.

    Yamatei Itai-itai~!!!

Vaya mobile. Cheaper than LiveConnected and allows you to move down plans at no extra costs. Also has (though more expensive) 4G plans to.

  • Any thoughts on a plan for my missus - she has an out iof contract sgs2 with Vodafone. She uses bugger all data, but spends around 5 hours a month talking and a couple hundred sms's. She mainly talks to ppl who are on voda/3 or Optus. Any thoughts? Cheers

  • For those who used a lot of data and fewer phone calls like me , check out Woolworths Pre-Paid Mobile on Optus network.
$26.10 (after 10% discount using rewards card) each month.
5 Gig of data and '$500' of minutes.

I cannot find anything as good.

  • I'm with Virgin. Look at their "Simple" plans. I pay $19 which lasts for 90 days. Or put it another way - that's about $6.33 per month.

Most of our friends are on some kind of Virgin plan and most plans are free calls and text. (Including multiple-message texts. I've sent several 12-in-1 texts.)

There's 100MB of data with that plan too.

Also, if you recharge before 90 days runs out, whatever you have not used yet - that's data AND credit - gets added to the next 90 day period. I only sent a few non-virgin texts last period - and I just paid $19 for the next 90 days. So I now have about $37 in credit - and 200MB of data. (So if I need to phone someone not on Virgin, I can.)

Oh - and you said you didn't need a phone. But if your phone is getting old, or the battery not great anymore, I bought their $29 phone from Coles. They also have a $19 phone. You can't even buy a battery for many phones for $19.

    • We do the same for Crazy Johns $15 Flatchat prepaid (90 day expiry)
      1c txt, 10c/min+10c flagfall, 500Mb on recharge then 3c/mb data & free CJ-CJ talk & txt.
      But it's Voda Network……

  • I think if she doesn't use her phone that much, the $9.99 TPG plan will be ideal for her.

  • amyasim also has a $10/90 day, roll over prepaid option

You get what you pay for… LC is not what I call a quality service. I know it's the cheapest but there's no point advertising how cheap it is when they don't do what they're supposed to do for the service. One week after porting my data still hasn't cut in.
