I Am Flying Emirates Business Class (Won Tickets) - on Emirate Code Share. What Frequent Flyer Programme Should I List?

Hi team,

I won/earned a trip to Nice, but got booked on the emirates code share. Should I go emirates given the qantas calculator looks like it will give me no status anyway, and at least emirates will give me the 34K+ status points as well as FF points.

Anything I am missing as I'm not clued in on the programs much otherwise.

Thanks!

Sometimes those prize tickets are not booked in the class that will earn points and status

yeah, doubt OP will get any points.

    • Business flex there and business flex plus on the way back.

As you note, no status credits on QF if the flights are EK. Are you flying on an EK or QF flight number? And what booking class is your ticket?

I wouldn't set up a Skywards account just for this flight - only if you're planning to fly on EK or its partners in future.

https://www.emirates.com/au/english/skywards/partners/ are the other airlines that have partnerships with EK (although I don't think many of them give status credits either). I'd probably look at UA or AC (particularly if you sign up for the HSBC Star Alliance credit card - https://www.aircanada.com/au/en/aco/home/aeroplan/credit-car…)

I'd still just go with Emirates and who cares about the points if you don't get them. Great airline. Enjoy your trip!! So lucky!

  • Are the flight coded as EK xxx or QF xxxx ?

  • What a weird flex……

QFF you’ll never use the points in the skywards account

  • If it’s an EK-coded flight on EK metal, then how is it a codeshare?

    • I might not have the terminology right, it was just the same one I could have got on qantas I thought (but didn't get booked that way). Does that mean I wouldn't even get the points if I give emirates my Qantas number?

In that case, then it would have been a QF-coded flight on EK metal, which would have been a codeshare. You are flying on an EK-coded flight on EK metal, which is not a codeshare.

Does that mean I wouldn't even get the points if I give emirates my Qantas number?

Emirates and Qantas have a partnership where you can earn some QFF points on EK-coded flights, though it's limited and you do not earn any status. As you've already stated, the status calculator tells you how many points you can earn.

        • thanks for explaining that.

          looks like it's boils down to either;

I get some points on Emirates, which may be hard to use, BUT I do instantly get silver status from that many tier/status points (but have to look into can I use that for any other purpose next year)
          or
I get an amount of qantas points that I will definitely use, but zero status points.
