  • Dan, tried Saratoga, but looking for something slightly less bitter, lighter roast. Suggestions? Pegasus?

Do you have a scale of the roasts? A table?

    • +1

Hey there Skramit - I have replied to your chat on the website with a couple of questions to help. Otherwise a lighter blend for you like Pegasus or Sumatra could be what you are looking for.

      I hope that helps.

      Cheers
      Dan

Sumatra has been a good choice in the past for me. Pegasus I have not tried.

      • Thanks

      • Great to hear serpserpsserp - thanks for sharing!

      • Agree with Sumatra if you find some others a little too bitter, it's the one I stick with now.

    • I've had the Sumatra many times. Tried the Pegasus with my last bag and was blown away. Absolutely my new favourite.

    • Twilight 100% go with Twilight is one of my favorite light roasts, you need to get the receipe right though or you will get a bad tasting coffee so depending on you skills and knowledge, the taste your aiming for is a sweet, fruty and nutty taste, very well balanced with very little or no sourness. When you pull it off though its an amazing drink. for a nice Medium blend that is easyer to pull off I would go enterprise. I have 2 grinders though one for my medium and one for my light :D

Buying coffee over the net is always hit and miss if it's the first time you're trying a new supplier, but I gave the last deal a crack and bought a couple bags. Very pleasantly surprised with them, haven't gotten into the second bag yet but the first has been amazing coffee.
Pricing was good, and shipping was quick, can recommend.

    • Hey Wralinar - thanks so much for the feedback. Yes it's always a bit of a risk for your first order from a roaster so feedback like this and the reviews on our site will certainly give people confidence.

      Thanks again.

      Cheers
      Dan

  • My favourite coffee, love the Sumatra blend. Just purchased 2 x 1Kg

By the way, is there a recommended time for them to sit before using from you guys? Or doesn't matter really?

    • +1

Thanks so much ThatsCheap!! - They beans peak at around day 10 so the day or 2 shipping time and a couple of days in you are close to the sweetspot - that said, it's still delicious all the way through - can't beat fresh :)

      I hope that helps.

      Cheers
      Dan

  • I was at check out with 1kg Sumatra and still showing $55.90?

I ordered from Inglewood 2 weeks agoand haven't seen my coffee yet.

Ahhh sorry to hear that teacherer - hopefully timing will be better for you next time. A good way to keep track of our sales it to join the sale email list on the home page of the site also.

      I hope that helps.

      Cheers

  • I ordered Pegasus last time and was delighted! At its peak, it was so syrupy and smooth. Interesting to read above that Dan from Airjo says they're best 10 days after roast. We cracked into these as soon as we got them and struggled to dial in, ended up doing the finest grind we've ever resorted to in order to not get something sour and it was glorious. Then about a week later had to crank it up because the magic was gone.
A great bean, really enjoying it, especially for the price and convenience. Many thanks!

    • Great feedback on all points haircloudy. Genuine thanks for sharing.

      Cheers
      Dan

    • Interesting, have to keep this in mind. So start with the finest level grind on the machine on the first 1Kg bag, then for the 2nd bag have to change the grind level up to be more coarse.

  • How is this comapred to Lavazza barista series?

    • +2

It's from Italy so by the time it's roasted, packaged, shipped, warehoused in Australia and stocked in supermarkets is probably a few months old and already stale.

  • +2

Much appreciated that you have different grinds available. Something to go with my Hario cold brew pot from Amazon JP!

    Thanks

Can you get anything within $25-30 anymore? (Delivered)
Airjo and Lime Blue used to be but now both over 30.

Feels a bit of a gap between Aldi beans which are under $20 and these. Don't mind the Aldi at all, they're my pick of the brands you can get from supermarkets.

    • +2

      Yeah Aldi tough to beat

    • +1

I rate Lime Blue and wish it was what I'm drinking right now. But Aldi is good enough and I can spend those $$ elsewhere.

  • Hey Dan, I like "cold brew" on summer, any recommendations?

    • Hey there Mee883 - I would definitely recommend you try the Stargazer for a delicious cold brew.
Keen to hear how it goes for you too if you choose that one.
      Thanks for asking.

      Cheers
      Dan

      • Got some Stargazer after reading this comment - cold brew is a'brewing. I tried it as an espresso and loved it. Great beans @AIRJO CoffeeRoasters :)

  • Ordered. Love these deals. Keep them up op!

    • Awesome jason2615 - thanks so much for your order!

  • Airjo / Sumatra the old reliable!
Just splurged on lime blue & normcore otherwise would have tried something different from airjo for a change.

    • Hey there Sandoness - always good to mix things up a little! - thanks for your feedback and for sharing.

  • Cheers Dan!
Ordered some Sumatra blend, keen to give it a go!

    • Great stuff Rhys96 - thanks so much for trying.
Super keen to hear your feedback.

  • Hi Dan,
I bought from you guys before and was quite satisfied with the bean quality.
I don't have my own grinder yet and previously ordered the espresso grind package. Unfortunately the coarseness of the espresso grind seems a little too coarse for my machine. Is it possible to request a finer grind? Or was it simply because or the choice of beans?

    • Hey there GotSomeTime - there are a few factors at play with pre-ground but in general our pre-grind espresso for each blend works well.
If you shoot me a message either on email [email protected] or via the chat on the website we can review your setup and see what we can do to improve the outcome for you.

      Cheers
      Dan

    • FWIW, grinding fresh is by far the easiest change you can make to improve the quality of your home coffee.

  • When deal end? Still have some Stargazer left so would like to wait a day or two as you guys ship so bloody fast :D

    • Hey raspudala - Fast & Fresh is our thing :) !!

Thanks for asking. Running for the week at this stage subject to stock as always.

      Cheers
      Dan

  • Thanks a ton for the chat and help Dan. Have ordered the Enterprise blend 1kg filter grind per your recommendation. Hoping to get the best tasting results. Cheers.

    • Fantastic BargainBragster. Thanks for your order. Please do let me know how it goes for you.
      Always keen for all feedback.

      Cheers
      Dan

  • What grinder do you recommend for filter coffee maker?

    • +1

Hey Colombian - we have a grind option named "Filter Grind" just for that.
You should see that in the grind options list.

      I hope that helps.

      Cheers
      Dan

      • Thanks, I think I didn't make the question properly. I would like to buy the beans and grind it myself at home. Do you have/recommend a grinder I can use for filter coffee?

        • Ahh thanks Colombian. Your question was perfect, I incorrectly interpreted it, my apologies.
Grinding your beans is indeed the best way to go.
In terms of which grinder I don't have enough experience with variations to advise you well enough.

Hopefully some of your fellow OzBargainers could share some experience to help. Otherwise a little online research for guidance is always a good thing.

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

          Cheers

It's a completely different world of talk Vs preferences vs brands Vs reputation Vs marketing. Prices range wildly too from cheap…to insanely expensive. I use a Timemore C2. Have not had it die on me so can't speak for any other brands or models. There's plenty of 'best grinders' video (and opinions) to watch on YouTube.

Important stuff…get a specialist grinder…not a cheap one from Kmart. I personally don't like electric grinder as I do french press. Electric grinders don't really control size of grind well. Look for a ceramic burr. Metal body and handle. Solid build and it should last you a decade or 2. Worth the investment.

        • +1

If it's your first grinder and you're going only for filter, consider the cheap sunbeam that was on sale here on Ozb from big W. It's a horrible grinder for espresso (don't even consider it for espresso!) but is quite capable of grinding for filter / cold brew and costs very little.

          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/801780

          • @APD2022: Ah…cool electric burr grinder. I kinda like the ritual of needing to manually grind, so I would only recommend hand grinder…and no chance of it breaking.

            • @hippo2s: Yeah for sure, a slower hand grind will get a better result. Also consider if you're doing it when others in the house are asleep - these grinders, particularly this cheap sunbeam, is quite loud for the 5 seconds needed for my morning filter.

              • +1

@APD2022: I've had a Timemore C2 for about 3 years now and I assume it will outlast me, they've been as low as $65 before if you wanna wait, but they don't seem to be much cheaper than $85 - 95 atm.

          • -1

@APD2022: We have an old sunbeam grinder and the espressos we make with it and a BDB seem pretty good to us. We might be missing out on a lot that were not aware of, but why do you say don't even consider it for espresso?

            • @kiitos: The feedback is in https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/801780 - just do a ctrl+f for 'espresso'.

Funny enough the marketing materials show an espresso…. portafilter handle thing. But marketing vs user feedback - i'd take user feedback. I think the issue lies in the fine-ness of the ground vs the pressure your espresso machine can pull. eg. ground too coarse from grinder (even tho at finest setting) - may be too large still for espresso machines with not enough psi. While for others with better machines - it's ok.

              • @hippo2s: Thanks for that, I have the em0480, which seems to have a bit of a better reputation than that one. I have been able to choke my machine with it.

Sorry if this is a dumb question as I’m only just getting into this kind of coffee. How long will a bag last unopened before it loses its freshness? Cheers

    • +2

Hey Marcla76 - that's a great question :) ….. and tricky to answer as there are a tonne of variables.
In general however it is good practice to keep the bag in a cool and dry environment before and after opening.
The peak freshness of roasted beans can be around 10 to 14 days from roast date and from there they will slowly lose their magic.
Keeping them cool and dry will slow down that deterioration process. They will still be good after a few weeks but not as magic as fresh fresh.

I hope that helps a little.

      Cheers
      Dan

      • '….slowly lose their magic….'

So you are selling Magic beans? Im so buying some the last ones didnt work so well!

        • +1

          Dwight, is that you…….?

      • Thanks 😊

    • It depends on your storage method. If you freeze coffee it lasts a lot longer. The Aldi beans keep well frozen for around a month or so.

I keep my beans in the freezer (or fridge if there's no room) and poor some into a plastic container, put the lid on and wait for the beans to reach room temperature before grinding.

      • How long does it usually take for the beans to get to room temp before grinding?

        • 30 minutes should be fine. I've ground them right out of the freezer too. If frozen I get them in, ground, then in an old moccona jar fast.

  • How does the decaf rate? Looking at trying a bag of decaf beans

  • What grind is similar to Mocano?

  • Great offer! I've ordered the Pegasus. I'm going to fly so high =)

  • @AIRJO CoffeeRoasters Which of the grind options do you recommend for Chemex?
I'm leaning towards Sumatra. Anything else you think I should rather try with a Chemex?

  • Wish you guys had 2x 500g or 4x 250g packs for the price of one to allow for customers to sample (and enjoy, no need to be stuck to one) different beans.

Oh and acidity info would be nice too. For those of us with sensitive stomachs.

    • I can highly recommend cold brew. Much less acidity. I can't go 15 mins without needing to go to the toilet after an espresso even with milk (same with some filter), but I don't get that with cold brews. I still drink a flatwhite in the afternoon tho lol

      • +2

Knowing acidity will help those with reflux or gastric sensitivity decide one over another. I get feelings of indigestion BC of acidity. I could tone it down with milk except I am becoming more lactose intolerant. At this rate I will be doing cold brew decaf soon… LOL

    • i find this a good idea. getting smaller bags to taste different variety and preserves freshness as well

      • As long as it's not some ludicrous mark up, say extra 2 dollars for extra packaging, I would buy!

  • Keen to try, just ordered one. Thanks for the good deal!

  • Hi Dan,

Any recommendation for Moka pot? I drink my coffee black and no sugar. Thanks in advance :)

  • Any recommendation for the strongest chocolate and less acidity taste? thanks

  • Hi mate

Whats a good safe choice. Testing a kg for the office who usually use it for milk coffees. Prefer a stronger one.

And do you guys do subscription?

  • Ok, I'll bite.

Gonna try the Sumatra that everyone seems to recommend, it was between that and the Pegasus blend for me.

I primarily use a V60 and sometimes an AeroPress to change things up.

    • My Sumatra blend arrived 3 days after roast date, interstate delivery, and was nicely packaged in a box.

It's not super light, but probably quite a versatile roast level, 5/10 as marked on the packet is probably 'correct'.

It's a bit early, but made a pour-over (black) and this is really quite nice for the money, and actually has a fair kick to it.

Totally recommended at $33 and will buy again.

  • I normally get “Decaf Forte” from Sicilia, as this has been the one with the most flavour that I have found. How does the flavour of your decaf compare?

    Cheers, Kevin

  • Hi! Do you do samples? I'd be happy to pay, just don't want to risk wasting a kg if I don't enjoy it.

  • Purchased my usual fav and also a new one to try thanks guys

  • Looking at trying sumatra
Anybody comment on using it for breville oracle?

    • We buy Sumatra for the Oracle it's great. Grind 22 for large cups, 20 for smaller.

It's strong but smooth. We have tried them all over the years, we like Sumatra the best but Columbia is a close second.
