Hahaha, trying to get Scotty to put Amazon as part of the affiliate rotation!

That did take a long time and alot of work, when I didn't have a job, now that I have one I have stopped posting, it takes ages to find Amazon deals!

I'm glad the spamming stopped by you (I viewed it that way). I wondered if you'd post Amazon "deals" if you couldn't post affiliate links (and hence got no monetary kickback for your spamming); guess I've found the answer.

  • Nice work! How long did it take u to earn that? I suspect the enloop deal was the bulk of it? Anything that encourages people to post good deals is a plus in my book :D

  • Congrats! Hope you get something nice!

    The eneloop deal was

    107 $4,278.93 $171.20

So sold 107 through my aff link, which made Amazon 4k, and me $171 lol.

Thinking of getting a gfx card, some ram and a pair of bluetooth headphones, will go nicely once I get around to getting a case, a psu, a cpu and a hard drive!

Should I do an "Apple" and take 30% cut? Hehe :)

While this is a "thank you" post, I have to put out a warning though, as this might actually encourage a lot more people posting Amazon deals, to a point that's spamming this site (which we obviously do not want).

    • Lol, now, we don't want OZB turning into a patent-warring, multinational group of… yea you get the point!

I though about that, and see your concern, but we both know very well that if someone posts something that is just spam, it will get negged heavily, it happens. Is there a system in place whereby an individual can be penbox'd for posting multiple spam deals? Or is it just case by case? Maybe 5 deals in a row with 5 or 10 negs or something?

      • For spammers — yes we know them when we spot one. With community moderation spamming should also hopefully be reduced.

I am more of talking about people's motivation of posting deals here. Since posting referral deals might become a bit "competitive" (which we've seen people reporting on each other's referral deals/comments), I don't want to see people voting down on competing deals.

        • Well I think I know Shaw's posting motivation, to get a monetary reward (posting page only shows 10 US and 3 UK Amazon postings but it seemed like more at the time).

        • If that gets me a good deal, I don't really care if he gets a little from it. Can't see a problem unless like Scotty says it brings out the spammers. They get negged quick anyway. Well done Shaw!

  • Not going to reply directly to this ’Sydney guy’, but did you think for a second about the time spent trawling Amazon for stuff that people actually want? Yea I admit to posting stuff that, in hindsight, wasn't exactly a deal, but there was never any motivational greed involved, it was purely out of desperation. I got carried away with them as finding a job in aus became less and less likely where I was located. Now I'm sure there are much worse ways to make money that I could have resorted to. But didn't. I simply wanted a way to sustain living in aus until I found a job, which unfortunately didn't happen. Since returning to nz I found one within 2 weeks, which explains my lack of time to look through all the Amazon departments, find a decent priced item, add to cart, navigate to the shipping page, rinse and repeat.

Not wanting to leave my girlfriend to come bac k home was much more motivation than greed ever could be, as it is the next time I get to see her is Easter.

Now I don't want or expect sympathy at all, I just want you to understand my motives and maybe stop trying to portray me as a filthy spammer. I also never broke any ozbargain rules with my deal posting, affiliate links are not illegal.

    • Well. Thanks for posting those Amazon deals (and in some degree, those BuySKU/Meritline/BuyInCoins deals). My previous comment wasn't really directed at you, but just a warning in general regarding to allowing affiliate links here, which is still "experimental".

You know, we are just trying to run OzBargain and keep it useful to Australian shoppers. Possibility of being flooded with spams is what keeps me awake at night :P

      • Oh yea mate, the above was not really aimed at anyone in particular, slightly more Sydney Guy than anyone else though. It was merely a justification of why I did what I did, no bullshit, I have nothing to hide.

Need some kind of sentry post mod seat, or create a spambot in the design of wikipedia's hundreds!

I think the community based moderation is pretty good at weeding out spam/sockpuppys nomatter what the hour, regularly see a few thousand people on here, so plenty of protection there!

          Hey guys,

I think the amount of time that is spent looking for deals on Amazon and also ensuring that those can be shipped to Australia, the affiliate links are one good way to get compensated for it ! I don't see any problems with it, and to me they were never really spams at all.

Glad you have a job now, was tired of your deals, felt like spam to me aswell. Glad to hear there was some pay back for the effort though.

  • Your post history was overwhelmingly voted positive, with several stand-outs, which speaks for itself in relation to any comments specific to you regarding spamming.

Frankly given the effort involved a few hundred pesos is peanuts, but understand you've kind of popped your head above the parapet by disclosing the profit … where there's always the possibility that some ponce will take a pot shot at you.

This message has been brought to you by the letter 'p', and i've obviously been reading way too many first person shooter game descriptions…

Feel free to post again, if you find the time … and watch out for those sexy sheep.
