How to Arrange Cab with Baby Seat

Hi,
We don't have a car and use Sydney's public transport (which is indeed fantastic and sufficient for our need) to commute. Few weeks back, I had to take my 1 year old kid to hospital due to an emergency. The hospital is inaccessible by public transport and Uber did not take our booking because of lack of baby seat. Luckily a kind hearted gentleman (with a baby seat in his car)gave us lift.

Please help how I can book a cab with baby seat. (Even if it's expensive cab, it won't really matter in times of emergency).
Thanks

Come on OP, this took 60 seconds to google.

Taxis do not require baby seats - except in NSW!
But even there, a 1yo can travel in the back seat of the taxi. Uber does not have the same exemption.
Only under 12 months do you need a child restraint in taxi. You order one from the taxi company, but it probably needs to be in advance.

If you insist on a child seat, then check this service: https://www.shebah.com.au

    • Have used them and very happy with the service

Just be aware that an adult male can only travel accompanying a child or adult female

Mmmm, I wonder how the ambulance service would react if you told them it was an emergency, you didn't have a car, and uber/taxi couldn't provide a vehicle with a baby seat, or at least couldn't at short notice.

And most hospitals have volunteer providing transport services. I wonder if their vehicles have baby seats.

From experience here, I know what the official response would be from the police/politicians to a situation like that. They'd say the police are not forced to book you, they can exercise discretion and not charge if the situation warrants it. And even if they do, the magistrate can record no conviction.

      they'd slug you $600, that's how they'd react

    • And someone else waiting for the ambulance might die in the process.

    ring ring, ring ring
Cab company: "Hello, Sydney cabs, how can I help you?"

Op: "I need a cab with a child seat"

Cab company: "Ok we will send one out"

Obviously wasn't that much of an emergency to call for an Ambulance.
