Been eyeing on this for quite a while and it's always around the $699 mark. DJ is selling for $629, but Samsonite is currently having extra 15% off flash sale. There is also 14% cashback from Shopback which brings it down to $536.77.

RRP - $1049
30% Off - $734.30
Extra 15% off when you sign up - $624.16
14% Cashback - $536.77

I assume you will likely travel if you need a suitcase and you can claim the GST back which is another $56.74, brings it down to $480.03.

Will the code 15% void cashback?

    • +1

Does anyone know if cashback would be valid with 15% off code?

      • I asked OP and they confirmed. So i pulled trigger on mine and cashback tracked within 1 hour.

  • Any good? Is the 55cm the one to get for carry on?

    • +2

If its ok for jetstar, its be OK for any airlines https://www.jetstar.com/au/en/help/articles/carry-on-baggage…

      • I thought jetstar didn't have any leniency regarding luggage size: "not exceed 56cm (height) x 36cm (width) x 23cm (depth)". If you have any experience with this please lmk if they do allow an extra few cms because there's so many carry ons that have a depth larger than 23cm 🥲

        • International carriers may have different sizes. And no, don't try and exceed them

    • +1

Yes, 55cm will get on any domestic or international for carry on.

  • +2

Can you actually claim tax refund since by that point the luggage would be checked in already and you can’t show it?

    • -1

Can claim tax on anything, if it's okay by a taxation law. Talk to your accountant.

      • +1

Wasn’t asking about the legal law more of a logistic thing. As I didn’t realise there was a counter pre check in but just check and there is!

        • My bad misunderstood your question

      • How can you claim tax if you’re Australian, not tourist?

    • +1

Some airports have pre-checkin TRS. For example BNE

    • +2

If it's Sydney airport, there's a small office downstairs for you to show checked items that needs claiming. They'll verify for you before you go to the office. But yeah the answer is yes but you need to show them before you check.

If not using cashback, velocity have an offer of 15 velocity points per $1 spent at Samsonite.
    Reasonably good deal.

  • In Melbourne, just go to Pera in the DFO outlets for 40% off.. Not sure about other states.. Myer has them at 40% off too sometimes..

  • +2

Maybe its just me, but i cant figure out if $700 for 1 suitcase is actually worth it, vs, you know a 100 or 200 equivalent

    • +1

RRP is over 1K so yeah… for the masses, it's not worth it.

Been using a big suitcase I got from Bangkok for about $50 & it's worked like a trooper. Used so for about 15 trips OS, always packed 25-30KG and still going strong.

    • +2

They are great but yeah, the price is a little silly. I have two (an earlier model) 81cm variant which I bought for under $400 each in 2016 and 2017

With these suitcases you're paying for three things:
      1. lightness (so you can squeeze in more stuff without having to pay airline fees for going over their weight limits)
      2. peace of mind. Last thing you want when going overseas is for your suitcase to break and spill your belongings all over the carousel. These aren't perfect but I've had two of them for several years now, and other than needing to replace wheels they've been great.
      3. 10 year warranty. Can't compare to other brands but Samsonite have been really easy to deal with for the wheel replacements

Worth the money I paid, not sure I'd pay this amount

  • I would rather go for July at this price

      Carry On Essential $275

      • External dimensions including wheels 55cm H x 38.5cm W x 21.5cm D - total linear dimensions 115cm (approved to fit as carry-on for all Australian and International standards)
      • Capacity 42L
      • Weight 3kg
      • German polycarbonate shell
      • A lifetime warranty on manufacturing faults.
      • 100 day returns for unpersonalised items.

1.5cm thicker than Samsonite, 6L/16% more capacity, better looks (subjective), designed in Melbourne, half the price of Samsonite, unfortunately over 1kg heavier

      • +2

Yeah the weight kills it for me.

  • +4

Does this include your air ticket?

  • Was about to pull trigger but some of the Samsonite cases seem cheap (er?) on Qantas marketplace. The 75cm Proxis on Samsonite $664 less 15% (signup bonus) is $564 less 14% Cashback total $485… BUT… I've never had luck in getting anything back with Cashback… Same case is $532 on Qantas market place https://marketplace.qantas.com/au/p/samsonite-proxis-spinner…

  • Best option for carry-on (cheaper end of scale):
    1. Samsonite OC2LITE 55cm approx sub $200
    2. July carry on essential 55cm $235
    3. Amazon Basic 55cm $139
    Any thoughts? Thanks

American Tourister Applite 4 Eco Upright 50cm is the one I went for. I paid about $150 from Strandbags on a sale a few weeks ago. I prefer a soft light 2 wheeler, for carry-on as I do FIFO. My old similar Samsonite was starting to show it's age after 6 years of weekly use, bit I didn't like their new colours. 😕

Got one before covid for 3xx, this price is crazy.

    • Same, bought one in 2018. but cost around 400

    Thanks OP !

I upvoted you as well because I don't think the community appreciates how good of a deal this is

It is perhaps a good deal is in the eyes of the beholder,
surely there are cheaper brands and offerings out there, but for some who's been eyeing on their made in EU line and appreciate their warranty coverage, this is a pretty good opportunity to jump on it

    I got the 75cm

  • Wouldn't this has 50% off sale occasionally in Myer and David Jones? Or not anymore?

    • +2

Most they do is 40% off RRP..

  • Pera offering the 81cm for $579
