Air Conditioner Installer Recommendation Melbourne

Hi,

Would anybody have any recommendations for an air conditioner installer in the southern suburbs of Melbourne? (Located in Caulfield).

I have been in Melbourne for long to find reliable tradies and at the moment I’m relying on using Airtasker/hipages but I hear a lot of mixed opinions on those.

I already have the air conditioners so only need installation. Thanks

    airtasker/hipages

Imo this is just asking for trouble these days especially with the fees airtasker charges these days, if they’re charging less for same service as others quoted normally not via a middle man service there’s definitely corners cut in most cases or not same for same services and quotes supplied

  • Didn’t realise I’d clicked a local Melbourne Facebook recommendations group by mistake.

  • If you're buying a new A/C, ask the shop to recommend. Bunnings has electricians who they dole out installations to.

  • why not ask for a/c installer recommendation from the store you bought it from?

    • I don’t believe harvey Norman have a list of the installers they use? And I’d prefer to pay a company directly than give them money just to find out

      • Last time i ordered from the good guys, they booked me a installer from their list and i paid the installer directly, no commission from them.

If you don't go towards that route, just google electricians or go on yellow pages and search for high rating electricians.

Just dont go for Metrooplitan electrical or Mr emergency they are scammers and rip you off by charging over thousands of dollars.

      • We went into our local Harvey Norman store to look at A/Cs and they had an installation option. I think it was $500 but I don't know the company that does it. This is in NSW though.

  • I used Hipages and got quoted $800 for a back-to-back installation of a 2.5kw unit and was happy with the results.

  • Thanks for the information, I’ve been getting quotes of 1k-1.5k per unit! (2)

Replacing two old systems with no particular big changes or difficult installation

  • Is it just me or how can it cost $800, $1000, $1500 for usually 2-3 hours work?! AC installs seem a ripoff

Definitely not just you. I haven’t even had a quote for $800/$1000, I’d easily take that right now

    • Supply and demand. You need a refrigeration license as well as an A grade electrical contractors license. This generally means that 2 lots of trades come out to do the job. If you hold both licenses it can be a rather lucrative business to be in. The trouble is there hasn't been enough young people taking up trades so we have shortage. It's also difficult to import people with the skills as the licensing authorities have a lot of hoops to jumps thorough in order to transfer overseas qualifications here, in particular the electrical license.
