            @bobokingdom: k new one is like $300

            • @abctoz: Where can I get a new iPhone for $300?

              • +3

@bobokingdom: don't bother. This id**t comments the same rubbish on every android post.

              • -2

                @bobokingdom: tried ebay?

do ppl here just buy what’s advertised I thought this was a bargain website

                • +1

@abctoz: I can't find any BRAND NEW iPhone for $300. I hope it has 6 inch screen, 4000 mAh+ battery, AMOLED Screen (needs lots of contrast), and a warranty (+ ACL protection) by the manufacturer. Oh, that's a Motorola Edge 30 Neo……….

                  • -5

@bobokingdom: you should try harder then

@abctoz: When did you become an Android hater? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/636113

I guess you ditch the $89 Android Phone for a $200 iPhone.

We are here to help each other to find a bargain, if you can't even provide a link to back yourself up (an $300 brand new iPhone on eBay), maybe you can look for more cheap Android phone to buy at BigW instead.

                      • -3

@bobokingdom: is stating facts being a hater now

                        who cares about cost performance

if you’re smart/sad enough to check my history you should be able to sus out which phone im talking about, add a new in front of the search instead of writing garbage retorts

        • Where’s the $200 iPhone on that list?

          • @MrFunSocks: se 2 is 200 refurb
            se 3 is 350

get se3 if you need 5g look for sales too

@abctoz: Used (with Scratches / Dents) vs Brand New with Warranty.
It's like comparing a 15 years Camry vs a Brand New Corolla…..and you will tell me Camry is Faster and Cheaper so it is better.

              • @bobokingdom: except the 15 year old Camry is inexplicably faster and more advanced for a quarter of the price

phones don’t die anyway still have original nexus it has alzheimers but still works what you need warranty for, it’s a tax for the benefits of idiots

            • +1

@abctoz: Second hand doesn’t count. An SE is ~$900 brand new.

              • -1

@MrFunSocks: it doesn’t count for you maybe but money doesn’t care what you think

                • +1

@abctoz: Once you start counting second hand it’s a giant rabbit hole. What’s the price of a second hand SD8G2 phone? What condition does it have to be? What resellers are allowed?

                  • +1

@MrFunSocks: No reasoning with him, may as well give up.

                    • @Sean8802: on the contrary I am the voice of reason, that’s because I state only facts

                  • @MrFunSocks: can you find me a second hand android phone of comparable value? I can tell you right now you can’t, because their flagships are currently the speed of a $200 iphone

it’s astounding how people’s sense of value is for a supposed bargain community

it’s more like koolaid advertising central here

                    • @abctoz: As said by many people, SPEED is not the only factor in choosing a phone. Screen Size, Eco-System, Warranty…etc are other important factors. Also, a lot of people will not touch a 2nd hand phone no matter the cost.

Just because it is Cheap and Fast, it may not be the best choice for everyone. McDonald's is fast and maybe the cheapest way to get high calories food, it doesn't mean it suits everyone.

Instead of promoting $200 used and beat up iPhones, why not look for other bargains and share with the others? You may feel better as you won't get -ve votes for EVERY comments.

                      • @bobokingdom: my $90 android phone has nice screen battery camera, it’s not worth anything

                        i find this more fun

but you’re right I should be confirming to peer pressure like a good automaton droid instead of making my own mind up

                    • @abctoz: I bought a Pixel 6 Pro + Pixel watch from a friend for $200 the other week - does that mean that I can say Pixel 6 Pros are $200?

                      • @MrFunSocks: you can but they’re much slower than a $200 iPhone

it’s a simple cost performance relationship not rocket science

used apple is new value champ

Ordered one finally - had been eyeing one since June (even last night!), missed out on September promo as I was overseas. Finally.

  • +1

Been using the Zenfone 9 for the past 1-2 months since the last deal. Had to return the first one because it had some weird cluster of scratches under the screen (was very difficult to return too because JB didn't believe me…). The first one also had fairly average screen calibration. The replacement screen has way better colours although despite being an AMOLED display it just doesn't look as good as my previous AMOLED display. At least the smaller screen really helps the lower pixel count mid-range phones have nowadays. Another complaint would be the peak brightness is borderline when out and about. It's usable but only just.

Overall, I still love the phone. The battery lasts 2 days with moderate to heavy usage. It never gets hot or overheats even while gaming. Speaking of gaming, the processor is insanely fast. You can put the phone in high performance mode, and it barely has any impact on the battery life. I've been playing FF7 Ever Crisis on it and it never dips below the 30fps cap while staying below 30C and rarely going over 60% GPU usage, which makes me think it could handle 60fps quite easily. Also, the Asus skin is very minor and it almost feels like a stock Android phone which is great.

    • How's the camera on it compared to flagship phones?

      • I moved from a Pixel 6 pro to this phone and while it definitely doesn't stand up to the Pixel, its still very good and definitely passable especially for this price.

It actually came third in MKBHD's 2022 blind photo comp last year, behind the Pixel 7 & 6a.

      • The camera is definitely the weak point. It's comparable to mid-range phones (I'd say it's as good as my Mi Lite 11 5G NE). It has a gimbal though. Overall, I'm fairly happy with the camera but don't go in expecting flagship quality.

  • Do these phones have good cameras?

    • YouTube MKBHD blind camera test 2022. Then his video on phone of the year. You'll be sold.

In short. It placed 3rd right after Pixel 6a, Pixel 7 Pro in blind photo preference testing with his audience. So yes very good camera.

  • Any good custom ROMs working on the Zenphone 9 similar to Lineageos or Pixel Experience? See a few other roms on XDA but not sure of their interfaces. Rarely only care about being able to root with Google Wallet, ability to slide notification bar to adjust brightness and being able fast forward and rewind with volume buttons when screen is off.

    • Normally, good custom ROMs appear after a phones official support cycle ends. Especially for Asus phones that are already relatively stock

      • Maybe for these kinds of phones but I see a lot that have them very early on because the ROM developers are fans of the brand (Xiaomi comes to mind).

        • +1

That's because Xiaomi's own rom are straight up garbage, so it's an automatic flash for most people. Heck, people have so little trust in xiaomi, that xiaomi.eu is Xiaomi's rom without all the extra spywares, and almost automatically supported in every Xiaomi's phone first week.

          • @Wonderfool: Could say that is a risk for many brands depending on where they're manufactured. Developers are also fans of some of the brands because the hardware is relatively cheap.

            • @tch: We're in agreement. The big reason why brands like Xiaomi can sell their phone relatively cheap is because they have their own app shop, adware, and until recently, sell your data to taiga.

Hence why we custom rom them. So we enjoy the benefit of cheap hardware without the software issues

  • ugh… ordered a week ago and still waiting…. order being fullfilled from Tassie! via cheap-o-parcel-post. Trying to order another one and the only way is fly 1500km to Mackay/Cairns to click and collect.
