DON'T install Firefox Browser Update

Advice for Firefox users. DON'T update Firefox. The most recent update 27/10/23 seems to do nothing except stop many add-blockers from working. Strongly suggest you dismiss the most recent update if you use an add-blocker. If you have already downloaded and installed you can undo it by following the instructions here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1244968.

Hope this helps people who don't need add spam every 5 minutes of work/play on the internet.

  • I only use Firefox for testing or certain extensions. All my serious adblocking is done on Safari. Though I noticed it hasn't got rid of the ad blocker nag on YouTube :(

uBlock Origin on Firefox is pretty good playing whack-a-mole with that. Rarely get the new popup, but if you do, just need to refresh page and goes away.

I paid $3 to block ads on desktop safari with Wipr, and $3 to block then on mobile. I'd hoped paying would light a fire under the extension developer's ass over things like this. There are plenty of free ad blockers for mobile and desktop safari already but I wanted the best, I wanted YouTube ads to be blocked fast.

I've used Firefox for 2 decades now. Latest version installed on main PC and all extensions working fine.

Eagerly awaiting the Mozilla VPN release in Aus. Seems to be based on Mullvad so should be good.

uBlock Origin is still working fine for me. Got the Firefox update this morning.

    • Even on YouTube?

      • I've always disabled it on Youtube as I've got Youtube Premium.

      • Yep, even on YT. Just updated it to test it.

Working for me, but needed to add some extra filter someone posted on the internet. So much for youtube's ad blocker blocker.

    • Working fine for me as well.

OP, what the hell are you smoking, bud?

Got tipped out of Mozilla for anti-gay stance, adds crypto stuff, covid conspiracy comments.
Just a series of examples of poor calls that makes me question his judgement.

    • used to be good until it added the crypto scam thingy

Reported this thread. Seems like targetted to keep ppl away from Firefox

    • Seems like targetted to keep ppl away from Firefox

OP's advice was completely incorrect but I doubt they were trying to keep folks away from Firefox (unless they have Jedi mind powers).

I just changed my DNS servers to the free AdGuard ones - 94.140.14.14 & 94.140.15.15 rather than relying on various apps to manage adds. They seem to do a pretty good job so far on my phones and PCs.

    • Even better with NextDNS app for android, iOS and Windows. A lot of filters can be applied, more customisation and settings. I use Adguard app (more customisation/setting and filters) on my phone, NextDNS on iPad and Windows.

  • too late did it yesterday
I use Ublock Origin and that still seems to be working ok
    thanks for heads up

    Nice try google/youtube.

Already installed, my adblocker is working fine.
Need to change the topic to DO install Firefox Browser Update

  • If Firefox or other apps/software is stopping many adblockers, the solution is system wide adblocker such as NextDNS app or Adguard app for example. Available for android, iOS and Windows too. NextDNS is free for personal use with a lot of setting/customisation and filters can be applied.

Set up Pi-hole or Adguard Home then you don’t need to worry about adblockers in browsers.

    • Not sure why you got downvoted for this.

  • Long time firefox user.
If you still get adverts on youtube after firefox update, try this, worked for me.
