How does this compare with Dell 3422DWG ?

    • +3

This uses the same panel as the old Xiaomi 34 inch curved gaming LCD. Which if you remember from Ozbargain member 'jasswolf '(I think?) comments, has a lot of dark level smearing which is quite typical of older generation VA panels.

Dell S3422DWG is also VA panel so it has the same downsides, although you might have to google around and read reviews to see what people say about it's actual response times

Looks like the Dell has better connectivity (2x HDMI 2.0, 1x DisplayPort 1.4, USB ports, 1x headphone jack versus 1x HDMI 2.0, 1x DisplayPort 1.2, 1x Headphone jack on the Lenovo). They also have slightly different curvatures, 1800R on the Dell, 1500R for the Lenovo.

Neither has USB-C which would be an advantage if you wanted to connect a laptop to it in the future easily.

Aside from that, they both seems quite similar in specs. Might need to compare reviews.

Haven't tried this one, but I'll repost an old comment I made re the Dell:

Have this monitor and love it. Using the Rtings calibration and overdrive recommendations and ghosting is so minimal. I play competitive CSGO and OW2 and it hasn't bothered me at all - this is coming from an IPS panel previously.

I did a pretty extensive amount of research before I bought the Dell and a lot of reviewers remarked on the lack of smearing and ghosting on Dell's VA panels compared to the rest on the market, which is why I ultimately settled on the Dell.

As with all things though YMMV - give this one a shot and if you don't like it just return it.

I have a couple of the Dell's, and agree with this assessment. Although VA, they are good quality VA.

      • Did you consider the Gigabyte G34WQC-A when doing your research?

I want to get the Dell but I also want to utilise G-Sync, and the Dell doesn't work well when frames go below 60fps with G-sync

    In b4 (the I don’t know any better) “it’s a VA” comment.

    If 144hz is buttery smooth… What's 240hz?

    • +33

      Liquidy squirts

    • Extra soft buttery

i cant believe its not butter

    • I got this for $557 from Binglee last week. Seems to fluctuate on the price

      • yep, down to $537 with code

  • Guys this one or LG 34WP65C-B?

    • +1

I got that LG 2 weeks ago. It’s ok for the price (was ~$450 at the time) but ghosting like crazy. I have a 7 year old Asus ROG TN panel and only comparing them side by side did I realise how bad ghosting can be. Even my 60hz IPS looked better in the test. Another specific issue I found was on windows 11, at standard height I can’t see the little indicator on the task bar icons which tell you which programs have something open I have to bend down and then they appear. Seems minor but I use it for work and can never tell if I close various windows so it’s a surprise with the mouse hover.

Saying that it’s working well as a Center monitor for racing sim and general pc use

If I had my time again I’d wait for the dell to go on a deal, but I’m impatient

After having a 21:9 monitor for 2 years, my biggest issue is that a lot of contents (games, movies, youtube) dont support 21:9 and having black bars on the edge is kinda annoying.

    • +1

I feel this. When playing games and the cutscenes are all rendered in 16:9 it really kinda breaks the immersion.

      • +1

Great for office productivity but media consumption is horrible. I will probably get an OLED TV as a monitor in the new future to replace the current one.

    • Definitely not a lot of games, I haven’t played anything in the last 5 years that didn’t support it

    • +1

Just make sure you’re getting movies without hardcoded black bars or remove them. Most films are 21:9 still so should look great.

YouTube and TV are usually 16:9, but most games support it (even if you need to go find a patch to make it work)

    Gaming monitor
    Old VA panel

    Pick one

Steer clear of this panel unless you REALLY need a screen today.

It's a G7 VA panel, all the better VA panels are on a 11th gen iteration of VA

Black smearing like crazy on these, and lenovos repair team are DISGUSTING getting these fixed.

It's probably best used for getting a screen for kids or something, not a primate use screen for anyone who actually enjoys gaming

    • +4

      …not a primate use screen…

So, any other mammalian group you think it’d be suitable for?

    • +1

How do you find out what gen VA panel is on a monitor?

  • +1

Never again going cheap VA. I've had one of OzBargains favourite 32" Philips VAs (bought new) and over time it developed a massive dull black spot.
Replaced with a Dell IPS and never looked back.
