[PC] Free - The Whisperer @ GOG

1670

GOG Halloween 2023 Sale Giveaway of 'The Whisperer', an indie horror/adventure game (GOG regular price: A$7.50) that can be claimed for free, for the next 48 hours until November 2nd 1:00AM AEST:

The Whisperer Trailer video & Game Description:

Investigate an abandoned trading post, explore its surroundings and solve the terrible mystery it holds. The Whisperer (Le Murmureur) is a short story-driven point & click game set in Lower Canada at the beginning of the 19th century.

Lower Canada, 1814. A trading post in a remote valley is found abandoned. The two winterers who inhabited it have disappeared. Robert, a voyageur of the North West Company, is tasked in investigating their disappearance. To find the truth, he will have to face horrors of all kinds…

Inspired by games such as Scratches and The Dark Eye, The Whisperer is an ode to the classic horror point & click subgenre. You will find the old school adventure features that we all love: puzzle solving, exploring, inventory, using and combining objects.

The Whisperer is a standalone game, but it also serves as a prelude to The Whispering Valley (2022). It is around 45 minutes long.

I have added a Reminder about the option to unsubscribe/opt out of GOG Trusted Partners marketing communications, at the bottom of the deal post:

Was not aware of this… thanks for bringing it to everyone's attention.

Many GOG users are unaware of this, myself included … until I recently came across some GOG forum posts that highlighted the auto-ticking of the checkbox behaviour (without user consent).

I figured its best to raise awareness of this from here on in, e.g. when I do get an opportunity to submit a GOG giveaway deal post.

The least one could do in return for free games is to accept the occassional mail from GOG. I personally don't mind, DRM-free is better than DRM-crippled. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

@DeepwaterNewt: Getting marketing emails direct from GOG is one thing. I've always allowed that because I like getting newsletters & notifications anyway. But the recent change has been to pass on our info to "trusted partners", which I can't abide. The big marketing giants don't need any more of our data than they already glean in other ways.

  • I got this when it was free the last time. I hadn't even played it yet.
