I loved the sound quality of these but found them really uncomfortable and hot and the touch controls suck :(

    • +1

Different ears for different people. I find them comfy

      • What’s the earcup size on these badboys like?

  • +8

    But I like my refurbs.

    A refurb headset….no thanks.

    • -2

$350 seems like a bit much.
Most comments on here suggest they are minor cosmetic damage, like the packaging or something. If buying the old model I'd recommend refurb when they are $230-260 or whatever, much cheaper and would be just as good.

Got the xm5 for $405 plus delivery from TGG ages ago, just call them and ask for a deal. Price matched JB error for $350 since then.

    • How do you know there is anything wrong with the headband. Maybe search all the previous posts for an idea of condition.

  • +13

They're called refurbs but they're just Sony's way of flogging the same stuff at a lower price without undercutting their retailers. My refurbs had clearly never been used at all.

    • Yea, this.. or minor squash on the box.

    • Mine were perfect too, I sprayed them down with Glen 20 and a wet wipe just to be safe, I did read something about someone getting a real stinky one once but I took the chance

      • ur comment made me go and sniff mine.. smells new. box looks new also

        • +1

So they passed the sniff test

      • I did read something about someone getting a real stinky one once

Must've been used by a junkie.

    • The pair I got definitely had some cosmetic wear on the headband matte plastic, and a little bit of dust here and there in the crevices that you wouldn't get on a new pair.

      • +1

Yep, same. Brand new apart from box

        • same for what? Furbug means the pair he got was apparently used?

    • Same, my refurbs were brand new sealed in box.

    • My XM3 refurbs are going strong at about five years now, almost daily use.

  • does anyone know if these or the newer ones have same ear cushion material as the newest version i find uncomfortable and hot on wearing for more than 30 min in summer

    • +1

idk if they've improved them but i agree the ones i have are v sweaty. Maybe bc of a need for good isolation to achieve the noise cancelling?

  • +6

I don't know what your talking about, my Sony refurbs has a scratch on the box, everything else brand-new.

Do you really think they have hundreds of 2nd hand
    WH-1000XM4 every month to sell

  • Momentum 4 is also 20% off in cart. comes down to $463.20

also a few Bowers and Wilkins are 20% off, including Px7 S2 and Px8

can't say all time lowest but people buy these full price without wincing, so there you go

    • Px7 S2 will get cheaper once the s2e is more widely available, so hodl.

      • absolutely agree. s2e makes these obsolete. I was super happy with my Px7 (original), but ANC is not really good. now sold it and went XM4, it's tons better in ANC department and I am happy to forgo sound quality for that. was able to tweak XM4 to a similar signature though

        • Yeah that's what people don't realise, there are other niech products that have better sound but the overall product isn't as good (usability/haptics, comfort, battery etc ).
Portable is hardly the best listening environment and i save that for home, with a good DAC and Amp, not Bluetooth headphones. Not worth spending over ~$350 imo, let alone $500-800.

          • @G-rig: yes. been there done that. XM4 get too many quality of life things right. ANC is stellar, controls, ambience mode, build quality (is not the best by far, but is practical and robust), high quality audio codec on board. sound quality is more than adequate for listening on the go. for a wireless on-the-go setup what more to ask for.

for at home listening, wired, DAC, amp, go wild and stretch your pockets and you'll see the difference. for the rest XM4 is hard to beat. yes it's possible to spend much more, but will it excel at everything else that is valuable on the go? that's the question

            • @shabaka: Agree mate, someone who gets it. I had the xm4 and now xm5. There was nothing wrong with them just decided to sell at the right time and upgrade whilst the xm5 were fairly new still. Only about 15% better in reality (I like the comform and slightly more Natural sound and microphone tech for calls improved). Some people may consider the ergonomics a downgrade as they fold flat not as compact for a jacket pocket, but I always use the case anyway.

I've EQ them a bit so sound pretty good, and leave the real good sq listening for home.

      • Px7 S2 is $399 in store, but I don’t think it’s working online (they’ll scan at $599 but then reduce to $399 when total is hit on the POS)

        • +1

Let us know when they are sub $300 and ozb will clean out your inventory 😜.

          • +2

@Stefce: there’s not much stock as it is 💀

I have a cheaper model… and the most annoying thing about them is they can't be used while charging. So forget to charge and you are dead in the water.

Anyone know if these are the same?

    • I have Xm3's, and they are the same re charging and usage, however a 10 minute charge will give you 50% battery, so over the 5 years I have been using them it has never been an issue.

    • I have XM4, ran into the same issue, it won't turn on while charging.

      • They aren't supposed to, just charge then use.
        Charge pretty quickly anyway.

  • I'm surprised these are still so expensive. I bought my XM4 for $300 3 years ago from a JB staff member who gave me a crazy discount. Really shows how much of a discount that was jeez

    • lmao

      1. you said it yourself - crazy discount
      2. 2023, have you heard of inflation?
      • 2023, have you heard of inflation?

In the tech world, as an item gets older, the price decreases.

The XM4s on the other hand… their pricing works differently lol.

And yes I said it myself, crazy discount. Not sure what your point is. I'm just in awe at how good the discount held up over time.

    • @Zackeroo I got the XM5 from a JB staff member who made a crazy pricing error ;).

Wasn't hard to get them for $405 anyway, and sold the XM4 for $270.

  • All gone now, it seems.

  • I'd say wait for Black Friday

  • +1

XM5s were just going a few days ago from the good guys with 20% off + 7% cashback for around $405. I feel like these need to be closer to $300.

  • Has anyone's shipped yet? Mine still says Australia Post hasn't picked it up and I ordered last Tueday.
