I don't even care about the deal. Upvote for your name and picture.

  • +1

I think you can cancel your Coles card and then reapply for it within the same year and still get the bonus.
If you have just renewed, you can also call them up and propose to cancel the card, and ask if they are willing to reverse the annual fee if you keep it.

    • Have you tried this?
This sounds too good to be true

      • Update: Might not be available - tried again this year but they didn't waive the annual fee.

  • You can spend $3000 on any shop? I'm waiting for a good sale on laptops, particularly from lenovo website. If I buy it with this card, would I be eligible for the 75.000 reward?

    • +1

      yes, but note specific exclusions:

excluding Cash Advances, Balance Transfers, Special Promotions, purchases of foreign currency and travellers cheques, transactions made in operating a business, bank fees and charges such as interest and ATM charges, refunds and chargebacks

      • +1

What is Coles definition of retail purchases? Is this different to normal purchases? And what is the Special promotion in the exclusion?

        • Retail purchase seems to be another way of saying 'eligible purchase', based on the below:

eligible retail purchases (excluding Cash Advances, Balance Transfers, Special Promotions, purchases of foreign currency and travellers cheques, transactions made in operating a business, bank fees and charges such as interest and ATM charges, refunds and chargebacks).

Also, Special Promotions include Balance Transfers and other esoteric payment plans (which normally are excluded categories anyway).

      • -1

Really difficult to define those… maybe it's not worth it

        • +2

What are you finding difficult to define from this list? Your laptop purchase will be absolutely fine mate

          • +1

@R-Man: Special promotions? I'll prob activate the cashrewards too…

            • @Nefe: Coles will not see the spend to Cashrewards. The charge will be made to the seller of the laptop device e.g. Lenovo, JB Hi-fi, etc. You should be fine to use the card to buy a laptop but if still confused, you can tell us here what you intend to do?

        • Nefe, Will be no issues it is a normal sale. Are you thinking you have to spend $3K or more in ONE transaction? The way i read it is multiple transactions of 3K or more within 90 days.

  • +2

What is 75k points worth? And best way to spend it? Convert to Qantas/Velocity?

    • +8

$375 spend at Coles or convert to coles group gift cards.

      • dayum, just got $350 Everyday dollars to use at Woolies earlier this week through their VISA gift card promo…might end up enjoying free groceries lol.

      • +12

More like $275 after the annual fee

        • +3

Yea, that's true. If you value gift cards at 5% of their face value then its only worth:
          $256.25 - $99 = $257.25

        • Yeh I mean it's still $275, but with the whole effort of applying and credit check I typically like to aim higher….

    • Depending on your desired flight route, converting to Velocity points can be decent too and roughly close in value to Coles dollars. I personally prefer this because I shop at Woolies instead.

    • +2

37,500 Velocity points. There are occasional transfer bonuses too.

  • +1

I closed my Coles credit Card in Sep 23 can i still apply for this and get the rewards flybuys and bonus flybuys

    • Same wanting to know

  • Finally

  • I applied for this a couple of days ago. The sign up process was interesting, they asked some pretty basic questions but asked for proof of residency.

Anyway, no news from them yet, will see how it goes.

  • How strict are they on income?

    • No strict

  • +1

Is there any downside to churning credit cards to get free points? Does it affect your credit rating?

    • +1

no impact they just limit how many credit cards you can have overall so keep cancelling as you dont need them and also you can also apply 2 or 3 every 6 months

      • Thank you. I'm gonna do it!

    • It definitely does… I applied (and closed) 8 credit cards last year. Credit score across all bureaus is less than it was.

Typically applying for a card will decrease your score, and then continually paying your card off on time will increase it. Overall impact is pretty negligible, assuming you don’t go overboard with applications and always pay on time.

  • +2

If you are chasing velocity points, the virgin money card is much better value to churn.
ATM it's 60k points with $129 yearly fees which can be offset by $129 of travel bank dollars.

    • Actually the fee's $64.50 in the first year (and who would keep it into the second year anyway when there are other bonus points offers to churn? 😉)

Having said that, I'll grab the Coles card as my next churn as I have two (and maybe three) big OS trips in the first half of 2024.

      • Yeah rn it's half price. I got the card earlier this year, bonus was 100k and full 129 fees with an option to request travel credit.

      • velocity is better, as from tomorrow. there will be additional 30k velocity points offered by velocity program if you meet the card offer.

        *30,000 bonus Points

To be eligible to receive 30,000 bonus Velocity Points, you must (a) be a Velocity Frequent Flyer member, (b) successfully apply for any credit card featured on the Velocity Points Earning Credit Card page with an annual card fee (the American Express Velocity Escape Card is not eligible for this promotion), between 12:01am (AEST) 6 November 2023 and 11:59pm (AEST) 17 December 2023, and (c) meet the minimum spend criteria for the eligible offer associated with the individual card if the application is successful.

Not sure if the bonus 30K is targeted, but shown in my velocity frequent flyer account offers.

        • Where are these terms listed?

          • @abs898: In the app/on the Velocity site.

As @hig0606 notes, the Virgin Money card is definitely a better deal than the Coles Rewards Mastercard for everything except fee-free OS transactions (although this is is primarily why I want the Coles Rewards card).

    • +1

How do you use the travel bank dollars? I applied earlier this year and it was 100k points plus 250 Status points. The travel dollars have 12 mth expiry right? I need to look into how to use it so if you have experience would like to know.

    • Yes, $69 first year + $129 travel bank dollars + 90K points.
Not sure if the bonus 30K is targeted, but shown in my velocity frequent flyer account offers.

  • I closed my Coles credit Card in Sep 23 can i still apply for this and get the rewards flybuys and bonus flybuys

    • If you check their T&Cs, there is no mention about cool down period to get the bonus points.

  • Same wanting to know

  • Seems like a good card to pair with One Pass / Coles Plus point gains, I like the no international fees too!

  • First card I have ever been rejected for (and I have been applying for cards for maybe 10 years). It was an instant rejection and I called to escalate my application with the call centre staff who said normally they would be happy to look at the escalation manually, but the application didn't even make it through to them. Possibly because I already hold Citi and NAB Cards, there are some business rules that prevent taking this one up.

Wanted to take this up before a trip to Europe and Africa for the fee free international transactions.

    • +1

Hrm, interesting. I'm holding a Citibank card, applied for NAB card got approved & then a Virgin card a month later (while still have the NAB &Citibank still active) and still got approved. They're are all backed by NAB.

      • I churned from a Citi card into a NAB card and then into a Suncorp card (also backed by NAB) between May and July this year and didn't have any issues related to Citi/NAB pairing.

    • Same I got instantly rejected for this a couple of weeks back and hold another nab card. Same deal with Kogan who is also underwritten by nab/citi iirc…

    • Could be a system error.

I got approved whilst holding two existing NAB cards, did they give any reason?. Note Coles MasterCard is a white labelled citi card, and citi's retail business is now owned by NAB. Ironically the coles card is better than any NAB card. (for my requirements anyway)

Notice the credit limit is quite high by default perhaps you can apply and ask for reduced limit.

      • BTW I completed the requirements and did not get the bonus points (only the usual standard points). Pretty frustrating. Flybuys team say the cannot access credit card details so cannot "validate" if I have a card do washed their hands of it (which is BS as the flybuys account shows the linked card and all the spending). NAB/Citi (who run the card support team for this card) are asking me for proof of the campaign itself even though its on the public internet. Should I refer them here for proof?

What do people think of this card against other options? I figured it was worth a try because of the fee being lower than NAB directly.

  • Applied and got email they’re assessing my application. Anyone got an immediate approval or is this normal?

  • Offers available to new customers only

Are you considered a new customer if you have churned this card before? I don't remember this condition being there previously.

    • Never held a coles card before but had a NAB card just recently closed

    • +1

That "new customer" is usually mean not for customers currently having this card.

      • So if I currently have this card (Virgin Australia Velocity Flyer Card), can I just close it and reapply for another one like a week later and get the bonus points?

  • how many velocity points is this?

    • Divide by 2

  • Is this the same card that had price protection insurance but not anymore?

    • yes

      • It’s still grandfathered right?

  • To get this right, 75000 points minus $99=$276 worth?

    • Yes, although if you want Velocity points (and don't need fee-free OS transactions), the Virgin Money deal is better ($64.50 fee, 90K points, $129 Virgin voucher).

      • Thanks, I have never used velocity points so not sure about the advantage.
For fee-free OS transactions I use ING.
Thanks again, will see if it is worth it

        • Good time to get one now with the bonus 30k Velocity points from this https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/809919

Only get this Coles card (which I just applied last week and still waiting to hear back) if you need a card with 0% international transaction fee.

        • Velocity points are mainly of use if you fly a lot as other redemptions are nowhere near as good value. e.g. 90K points is (almost) three return MEL-SYD flights in business class (along with ~$40 in taxes per flight), tickets that are usually $349 each. This means you can derive $1800 in benefit from the points (assuming of course you value business class highly; I think it's a fun way to burn off points).

          • @MELso: The problem with this logic though, is that you can fly ghetto class to Sydney for way way less with a budget airline.
So are your redemptions really worth $349 when you might have only paid $100 for a flight of your own choosing !

            • @Nom: That's why I said 'assuming of course you value business class highly'. If you don't, you don't.

It's not just MEL-SYD hops that Velocity points are useful for either. Personally, I'm glad I paid 111,500 Velocity points and $120 for a flight from Sydney to Houston in business class. A much better deal than paying $2K for a cash fare in economy. ;-)

  • their free Mastercard has only 20,000 and is located here - https://www.coles.com.au/credit-cards/no-annual-fee

    • yeah but do the math, $99 in fee for an extra $275 in return. I would still go with the card in OP.

  • Is it just me?

I applied for this credit card. It asked for Proof of income, Proof of employment and Proof of other income. They said PDF format accepted. Once I uploaded proof of income pdf, the proof of employment field is gone. Submitted proof of other income, and the application "looked" completed. The next day, said document missing, and asked me to resubmit. Today said the pdf I uploaded is blank, and rejected my application.

The whole application site is really buggy in my opinion.

    • having the same issue. link doesnt give me anything. i have to call and then they send me a link. just awful.

  • Is it still Citibank/NAB providing this?

    • Click on the link and all will be revealed…

      • NAB is mentioned, not Citibank which suggests it is NAB and not the still separate Citibank arm that is assessing your application. This matters for churners considering how much Citibank suck's for churning. I suspect it is still Citibank in the back-end.

        • I've the opposite experience actually. They don't have hard condition like 12-18 months cool down period between application of the same CC type. Before covid, due to extensive travelling, i was able to get the Premier Card 3 times within a calendar year.

Not with other banks - their T&Cs clearly specified bonus promo not applicable if you held same card in last 12 months.

May be because i have a long relationship with Citibank, all my applications were approved within 24-48hrs.

  • Do coles/citi/nab do annual fee prorate?

  • +1

Conditional approval pending payslip. Uploaded payslip and approved within 10 mins.

  • +1

This deal has extended till 29/02/2024.

Applied on 25/12 and got approved today.

  • Does this card allow you to pay government charges (ie council rates) to meet the spend? Couldnt see that as an exclusion on their website

    • Under their FAQs, check under Collecting Points, you will see a bunch of excluded transactions - including govt related.

      • Thank you. Is there a difference in collecting points for the transaction (dont really care if I collect points per dollar) vs just using it to meet the $3k spend criteria for the govt transactions? Would the best way around be to use sniip?

        • +1

Sorry but I'm not quite sure i understand your 1st question.

Yes, using Sniip will earn full bonus points as the bank don't see your payments to a govt entity.

  • Does anybody know if this credit card uses the Mastercard exchange rate for overseas transactions, or does Coles set their own?
    Thanks.

    • +1

I used this as my main card for my overseas travel recently. I am not 100% sure but the final amount charged to my card was in general slightly higher than what I saw when checking using the Mastercard exchange rate. Not a lot higher so didn't concern me at all.

  • Did I miss it or does this application not ask about assets like money you hold in the bank, shares, etc?

    • Yeah you're right, just asked for income and expenses.

  • I have been using this card for the last 5 years. Back then promo was 150K points. I am happy with the service, customer care is from Philippines, which I don't mind at all.
Used to be only Samsung Pay, but now they have added Google Pay. One thing I would like to add is that I miss the bank account link that all the credit card issued by banks has.
So, you are stuck with BPAY. Which takes about 24 hours and is not available on Sunday. So, no option to adjust your card balance instantly.

  • Does foreign/overseas spend count towards minimum spend?
