Breaking Bad is the best show I've ever seen, except maybe The Wire.
I will never stop talking about Breaking Bad or The Wire.

  • Maybe just fire up Binge for a month each time you wanna binge watch it again. Pretty decent quality.

Binge is to quality video what Murray River water is to Evian.

this is one of those shows i really need to get around to. it always gets recommended

    • +2

Yeah I had someone recommend it to me last weekend. It's on my list of TV shows to watch…. eventually.

Be warned: the wire does not sell you on itself. Instead, it demands attention in a way that you will find deeply unusual, and at first, potentially very uncomfortable. But, this is for a reason. The wire is a radical sociology course in disguise of the most compelling multilayered narrative possible crafted by a team composed of intelligent, acutely experienced and passionate (what should be considered) activists and highly skilled urban crime novelists.

It's not for everyone. The pace can be considered slow, and some find it distastefully didactic, but for those patient and open-minded, it is truly life-changing media. It completely changed the way I look at the world, as it has done for many others.

Alternatively, it's very enjoyable as a gritty, hyper-realistic crime drama set in a before virtually unexplored setting, the city of Baltimore, and for that I think it deserves a shot regardless.

        All the pieces matter.

          Yeah I'm out.

        • I read that post in Patrick Bateman's voice, like when he's discussing his love for Huey Lewis and the News in pedantic detail before murdering Paul Allen.

        • +1

all right, im in. firing up now

          • @perfectlydark: Give it until at least half way through season 1 if it's not clicking with you right away.

    • +1

Best show ever made in my opinion.

    • +3

For me, it so clearly stands out as the best show, I don't see how it can be compared to anything else. However, as the other commenter aptly put it, don't expect to be "blown away" instantly. Watch, listen, learn the character relationships and motivations. Once the immersion has started, then you'll be gripped by the drama as storylines intertwine, characters develop and conflicts resolve with emotionally intense scenes.

      • +1

Absolutely. It's the depth and complexity of it for me that makes it stand out from other great shows. A masterpiece.

Inflation. And I don't mean Vito Spatafore getting blown up

  • It's been a fair bit cheaper in the past ($72.30) with another 10% off for 2 items from Amazon UK. Might be worth waiting for Black Friday, etc.

When you come at the king, you best not miss.

I remember 'trying' to get into the show back in the day (going on 15+ years), found it to be super slow. But once it hits (aka the Wallace stuff) oh boy does it hit!

I haven't done a re-watch in over 10 years now, should try and squeeze it in over the Christmas/New Year period.

    • Where's Wallace at String?

      • +1

Don't do that :( my jaw was on the floor, but that's what kept me invested in the show!

  • Must see show but I wouldn't be able to bring myself to watch it again let alone buy the bluray.

    • +4

It’s really a great show to rewatch. You might think it’ll be another slog to get through, but when you already know what happens you can just enjoy how entertaining it really is. As well as notice things you might not have before

For example, I hated season 2 the first time. Boring and awful. But a rewatch completely changed my opinion, now I love it.

I wouldn’t even suggest going from the beginning. Just fire up a random episode. Always hooks me in

      • The same; found second season to be slow and boring initially however on second viewing it is really good.

It is one of those rare TV shows where the pay off is over several episode arc instead of at the end of every episode. The first season was okay but the last three episodes brought it all together and made the entire run so enjoyable to watch.

Watching the brilliant Andor seasons reminded me of The Wire on how they use several episodes to build up to a more satisfying event. Stranger Things also went from the first season where every episode ended on a cliff hanger to multi-episode events.

It is also so well done how there are multiple storylines play out at the same time without becoming too confusing and also from both parties viewpoints.

Did they ever fix the 16:9 bad cropping?

    • +1

Also curious about this. I've only ever watched it in the original 4:3 format but have not heard great things about the widescreen versions.

  • +2

    Greatest show of all time.

  • The DVD box set is very low res for the first season or three, given the time it was shot (and mostly for low res FTA syndication).

Is the picture produced by the Bluray set any better for any of the 5 seasons they did?

got that pandemic! got that pandemic! red tops! five oh!!!
