Seemingly over engineered (and overpriced) phone holder!

    https://www.amazon.com.au/ZOPHIX-Upgraded-Friendly-Smartphon… $9.99

I've got the Zophix one, bought for $7.50 about half a year ago. Cheap and does the job fine.

  • If you've got one of those heavy 7in phones, I can imagine this breaking off your aircon vent when doing a hard cornering.

Needed one of these and this actually looks good. Heaps and heaps of good reviews. Thanks for posting. Would rather get this than than save a few dollars and get one with worse reviews in the comment above. Also the other comments here are funny, they are saying it's bad without actually ever having used one. 'Seemingly' and 'I can imagine'. Yeah alright.

    • Agreed. A lot of negativity. I have the Baseus vent one and even though they break in 1/2years usually I keep buying them as the mechanism works really well with my phone I can literally just drop it in and it's steady. Takes a second.

I'm a fan of the gravity ones (well at least the Baseus one I have is good I'm sssuming the others are decent)

In fact the vent lock looks more decent on this one than the Baseus one.

Also just checked the Baseus store and it seems they don't do my gravity one any more so will be looking elsewhere when this one breaks :)

Given 4.3 out of 5 stars 22,028 ratings,, Decided to give it a try …

  • Where's my hoverboard?

  • Air vent phone holders will break your air vents eventually…

    • Agree but what are the other options ?

      • I would recommend, based on location:
        - Suction cup mount (on window)
        - Sticker mount (on dash)
        - Cup holder mount (in centre console)

We have used air vent mounts exclusively in our car daily since 2016 and have not had any air vents break. Both clip on ones and hook ones.

Before 2016 we used expensive suction mounts and they always seemed to lose suction after a few months and in the hot sun. Have not tried sticker or cup.

          • @carboncider: You may have particularly strong air vents. I rent out cars and constantly have to deal with air vents being broken by borrowers who put their own mounts in.

Suction cup mounts need to be remounted every 6-12 or so months, but they don't lose their ability to "suck" (form a seal then create a vacuum) unless they're damaged. It's not like they're a glue that wears off.

@[Deactivated]: Although I agree with what you're saying regarding vent mounts, I disagree with suction cups.

They do eventually lose their firmness (I think due to our Aussie sun likely) and gradually lose their suction. No damage. The rubber or whatever just get looser and less able to hold it's original shape.

Bit like my skin now I'm 50 years old. Certainly doesn't go back in shape the way it used to when stretching it :)

@Ramrunner: Fair enough. I've not had that happen yet, so maybe I'm just onto a quality brand mount for my cars. I would note that it's better to have the mount brake over time than the vents brake.

                • @[Deactivated]: That I will also happily agree with.

It's "break" by the way https://www.dictionary.com/e/brake-vs-break/

I'm yet unconvinced the perfect mount exists but I'm hoping my next car will have Android Auto and a place to put my phone comfortably so I don't have to worry about mounts ever again :)

                  • +1

@Ramrunner: Yep, I spelt "break" correctly the first time - the second time must've been because I was thinking about cars.

You can add Android Auto to your car for just a couple hundred dollars, if buying a new car is a fair way off.

          • @carboncider: The key is to wipe the surface when they seem to lose suction, and apply a bit of water on the cup so that it forces out all the air inside. Will last for years that way.

    • use a proper one!

      • +1

        like?

        • I am using the popsockets one. Works perfect.

    • Yep, the vent my holder is on no longer moves all directional slats together. Only individually so something is broken.

      BUT

The vent mount itself is still steady even after 7 years so I figure it's broken anyway I'll keep using it.

But yes - it CAN break your vent.

  • +1

how easy are these vent style mounts to remove???

    • +1

Usually just spring clips. Some have a screw bit like this one seems to have.
