Paying Online with Auspost Giftcard (or Any Other Non ID Card)

Hi y'all

did anyone successfully use the Australia Post giftcard ( AusPost giftcard ) online?

They are supposedly Mastercard and have Card Holder instead of a name - which is what I want.

I occasionally buy digital products such as distilled notes somebody already made for exam prep, notion, or other templates.

I noticed I started getting a lot of extra phishing and scam attempts on my email and phone used for some of these purposes. Data privacy and protection framework in Australia doesnt help either.

Id like from now on to use a bank card that has no personal info on it. charges are usually in USD or AUD.

Would AusPost giftcard work for that purpose or I'd just be wasting money because it won't work? AusPost staff and support doesnt know :)
Also if anyone has other recommendation please let me know.

Thanks!

Look into signing up for Revolut even with the free plan you get disposable cards that work in most places you can freeze set spending limits and replace whenever you want up to like 20 cards, they also have a self destructing card that only works once.

You can type whatever you want in the name field when paying for things it seems to work most of the time not sure if anybody crosschecks that.

    • Wow, did not know this.
So if I use revolut I can spin off a card, pay - put in a random name in the name field (Revolut and websites won't deny transaction??), shut down that card after paying.
And then I pay the product or service as I should and they dont have my permanent banking card details or name?

That would be a solution if it works

Yep you can even set a limit on the card so they cant try to take more then you were expecting. It works with any name in most cases.

Depends on if the merchant requires 3-D Secure or not. If they do the anonymous giftcards won't work.

      Additionally:

      • A merchant may not always require a 3-D Secure check, but will instead block some prepaid gift cards based on the BIN (e.g. the Woolworths Group gift card portal blocks Coles Mastercard gift cards as a payment method if you try to use the gift card directly).

      • A merchant may block all prepaid cards, even prepaid cards with support for 3-D Secure (e.g. Cashrewards’ gift card portal).

Good points, didn't think about those scenarios.
