Any word if this is deal is at Victoria's store? Deal from Ebgames has 500gb ps3 & fifa 13 with either little big planet + another controller or borderlands 2 for $398 or you can get a 12gb ps3 + fifa 13 for $298.

Costco's deal is a good price.

    • A friend of mine said he saw it in the Victorian store for 349.99 last week

      • +7

I may be mistaken, but I think it's Australian stock. It has the G rating on the top right corner of the box

  • was this instock? or pre order?

      • +7

        Think before you post.

        what wonderful ignorance :)

Hate to be "that guy" but the only reason this one is slightly more expensive is because its the new super slim edition which was just released. You can buy the older editions of the PS3 for most likely less than $200 (if you are a true ozbargainer).

The new Slim Xbox 360 just looking on JB's website is $399, so technically, this deal on a console which was just released seems pretty decent compared to the now 4 month old Xbox 360 console, which has maximum only half the capacity of this deal.

Yeah, the Wii U is $348, but with region locking, controllers which cost in excess of $150, and only around (rumoured) twice as powerful as a 7 year old console, the PS3 still seems pretty appealing.

All in all, this deal seems pretty good, great find OP!

      • -1

so you call yourself a true ozbargainer and price suing JB's normal pricing?

        • +1

he was responding to someone who posted a eb games price thus comparing jb price to eb price is effective for deminstration. only better comparison would of been eb to eb :) ( and since when have jb had ridiculously bad pricing for consoles ? its not like he was comparing harvey normans price… )

If you mean they "do the same job" in the sense that both a 360 and PS3 play games, then you are absolutely right. I can play Snake on my old Nokia 3310 so that does the same job, and is worth under $5. Bargain.

    • +4

"does the same job, and is under $200" - wow the XBOX now plays Blurays???? Sweet!

  • +6

oh no! i just had a look and that CD/DVD/Bluray disk loading cover is so so cheap! sony really dropped the quality of the new PS3

    • +1

      And the price!

    • I was thinking the same thing. Just imo but, the previous PS3 slim seems much more premium on that fact alone.

    • +1

I still think the original consoles were the best with the touch sensitive buttons and gloss finish.

      • They were high gloss, but unfortunately also highly prone to YLOD :(

    • -2

For all the Idiots that negged my comment that the new PS3 doesn't feel cheap

      http://www.engadget.com/2012/10/08/playstation-3-review-late…

  • Is this instore only?

Inning Qld. Any news on someone price matching

  • Great deal, thanks!

  • hmm.. now i'm tempted to replace my phat ps3 :)

    • Same here, Costco Melbs anyone?

      • pricing is generally constant across Costco stores.

        • Melbourne Costco was the same price but out of stock last Saturday.

        • bugger :(

        • Wonder if they'll get more? (I don't know how Costco works.)

  • hummm should i get this one or wait for wiiU
    have anyone compare the vga?

    • 1080p for both so it hinges on what the developers can do with it, do not buy nintendo if all you want is eye candy you will possibly be disappointed, as a life long gamer/nintendo fan the best advice i can give you is to buy it (nintendo) for its innovation or if you love nintendo exclusive games.. :)

PS3 will have support until 2015 but the PS4 will be out next year (2013). if you also want cheap games already available there is a huge list of PS3 games you can play :)…

      • +2
        1. The Wii U is hardly innovative. It's controller is a Wiimote with a touchscreen. It's power will mostly bring it's games into line with current gen (read: seven year old) games. Based on Nintendo's showing at E3 and what we have seen/heard since, I don't think it's reasonable to expect that we are going to see anything next-gen-worthy from this console. But yes, I will probably buy it down the track to play the next Zelda game as I have no other choice. The handful of decent exclusive games are the only thing this console has going for it really.

        2. Congratulations on being the only person in the world to know for certain that the PS4 will be out next year.

Bottom line: I honestly think a PS3 is a better buy than a Wii U right now. You have a huge catalogue of amazing games (exclusive and mult-platform) with a significant portion of them being at budget prices. Not to mention the excellent HD remakes of PS2 classics. If you buy a Wii U… you will be playing Nintendo Land and ZombiU for the next few months until a decent exclusive arrives.

      • PS4 wont be out till 2014, unless Microsoft and Sony decide to break their agreement.

  • Honest question, not being critical.

Would anyone actually update to one of these if you have a PS3 just because it's a bit smaller? If you didn't already have a PS3 why would you buy a PS3 now when they're so old? I'm not trolling, seriously curious.

If they come down I might buy one of the older ones and use it as a media center.

Plus vote for the price. :)

    Edit because I can't spell.

    • +2

The only reason I'd buy one is if my current one would fault in any way.

    • +2

lower power bill as uses less energy

      • +2

If you do the math, and say you also sell your old console for $150, its probably going to take 5 years of being constantly-on for that rationale to work.

      1. The only reason I will be getting one is because my original fat PS3 died a few months back.
      2. If you didn't already own one you would basically be getting it if you wanted to play the exclusives that you can't get anywhere else. And the PS3 has a great range of them.
    • +1

I replaced my fat PS3 with a slim just because it was quiter. AFAIK there is no power consumption differences between slim and super slim as the hardware inside is effectively the same. Unlike the change between fat and slim which included a die shrink (64->40nm).

When I heard this was being release I had hoped at least they would upgrade the wifi to wifi-n, but nope :(

  • Was looking for a decent deal for my nephew. I bought one this am from Costco Auburn and they said that was the second last one. So @ 11:56 am there was only one left in stock. Someone was gonna be lucky last

  • If i didn't have one already i would have bought the last one too

Harvey norman have the 500gb with playtv for $388, if someone prefers to pvr their ps3 http://www.harveynorman.com.au/new-sony-ps3-500gb-playtv-bun…
If someone prefers the older 320gb, they have it with play tv and asscreed rev for $388 http://www.harveynorman.com.au/ps3-320gb-console-sony-playtv…

  • who dares take a photo of the price of my store lol this is my department!

    • will costco melbourne going have stock anytime soon?

      • Will they Raincheck =)

        • unfortunately costco doesnt do rainchecks :(

      • unsure about melbourne, you have to call their store because our own systems tell us of the stock our store has.

        • Hi
Are there still any more in stock at Auburn?

    • +3

      i do! :D

  • Kmart have the 12gb for $248, come on $200~ prices!

    • The 12gb is cheaper but if you are planning on using your game console to play games then get the 500gb version.
Some games use ~5gb plus with some games such as skyrim and heavy rain, then keep in mind that a 12gb hdd only holds 11.4gb of space (this may seem petty but it's almost 5% of the space).

Quite a few games require you to install on the hdd or are virtually unplayable (not so much with the games but load times or if a new map is loaded as your running in open space games) if you haven't because read speeds of blu rays are a fair bit slower than that of DVD.

I think most people that get the 12gb version will regret their decision to save a few bucks once they start using it.

      • +1

A 1tb is around $100 (if it fits), generally it's cheaper to buy the "upgraded" 2.5" yourself, this deal might not be available in VIC, plus I also have a few 2.5"s around anyway.

      • not for someone who has PS+, you get games free each month and some games are 6-7GB in download size.

  • Daaaaaaamn!!! I just paid $399 at JB HiFi!!! Although for that you get an extra controller, 2 crummy games, a crummy HDMI cable and MIB 3…

  • -2

Deal looks tempting but on the other hand, it only has a 2 year life span max, with Sony planning to launch PS 4 around 2014

    • +3

i think you should hold out until ps5 comes out.. ps4 would only have a 5 year life span 2019 ps5 is the way to go

    • But who knows when it is actually coming out and what it will have?

It may not have a blu ray drive as Sony have already made it clear that they would prefer games to be downloaded as they can be made harder to copy.

It may not be backwards compatable (the ps3 has been shown that with minor software it is more than capable of playing ps2 games but Sony didn't want it to for some reason (most likely to force developers to use their new and more expensive licenses) and this could be an issue when Sony unveil the ps4 aswell.

Sometimes it's easier to stick with the evil maniac you know.

      • If they go for download only games on PS4 they'll need to include massive hard drives or some people will have issues where they will run out space for storing new games.
I still think they'll include blu-ray as this tech is their baby and they'd want to continue to support it.
What I'd like to see is games on memory cards. 8 and 16GB cards are cheap and by the time the PS4 is released, 32GB cards will be even cheaper than now. The consoles would be small as the large space an optical drive needs is no longer required.

        • Interchangable ssd drives yeah boy!!!

  • +1

this is a really good deal, and for those inclined, can take advantage of costco's satisfaction guarantee whereby you can get a full refund on any product purchased if not satisfied (and this is for any reason any you think of). No time limit is imposed. hint hint wink wink

  • +1

    any left?

    • SOLD OUT @ AUBURN!!!!

    • +1

A gaming PC will probably cost much more than $300, not including the controller. Also, there are some game titles that are exclusive to consoles.

    • +1

Wanna pay the extra $1500 for me? :)

    • Software companies largely hate the PC. Not because of the tech, which is great, but because of the rampant pirating.
They also find consoles easier to develop for as there are less hardware variations compared to PC.

  • Just called Melbourne and they don't have any at the moment and didn't know when/if they'll be getting more.

  • +1

    This or PSP vita?

    • PS3 all the way. The Vita is totally being neglected by game developers while the PS3 is and will be getting heaps of games.

  • Anyone in QLD selling at great price too?

  • Ha ha, that BluRay drive, grill is FUGLY!

  • Isn't Costco American?

  • I am also looking for a good deal, but i stumble in ebgames. Not same
    https://ebgames.com.au/ps3-999789-New-Look-500GB-PlayStation…

dont forget + 1 controller RRP $78, and 1 Little Big planet game RRP $24 (essential One).

So that works out around $299 for the Fifa13 + PS3 Superslim 500GB.
    Sound right?

    • controller $54 @ozgameshop. Got it for ~$35 from Zavvi during the sale.

That bundle is reasonable but no where near a bargain price as you may have thought.

    ronnie approves

Out of stock in auburn and I dont think it will return at that price unless were very lucky (insider tip)

  • Damn, no stock. Any update of stock returning? was thinking of replacing my fat ps3 which sometimes freezes from overheating. Any issues with this new slim?

  • I just picked one up for my fiance, they have them back in stock now.

    • Same price?
