OzBargain Causing High CPU Utilisation and Crashing

Hi guys.

Only since yesterday, the OzBargain site using Google chrome on windows 10 has been causing my chrome to crash and beforehand, the laptop sounding like it’s going to take off.

Has anyone else experienced this? Has there been any changes that could have caused this?

If I can manage to catch it and close off the OzBargain tab before it crashes, it completely settles as soon as OzBargain is gone so it is definitely the culprit.

It's getting close to Black Friday and I suspect that some ad networks might have been pushing dodgy ads that are processing intensive. Maybe try to turn off ads (from your user-settings)? You can also bring up the Chrome Task Manager (Shift-Esc inside Chrome) and see which tab or iframe is chewing up the CPU.

Bargains can sometimes be difficult to process

  • I had something odd happen yesterday when I was in OzBargain. The computer became very unresponsive. Never thought to check CPU usage. I checked the connection and it was running at 160/65, so I assumed it was OzBargain's server running slow. When I shut down the browser and started it up again to do other things it seemed to be OK. And later in OzBargain it was OK.

I run Windows 10, but the Microsoft browser

    • It just did it again.

      • It just did it again. Checked CPU utilisation. Very high and increasing. Checked RAM. Same.

As soon as I killed OzBargain CPU and RAM use went back to normal.

        OzBargain, YOU've got a problem.

        • Have you tried Chrome's Task Manager (Shift-Esc) to narrow down to a specific page or IFrame? Anyhow it's likely caused by ads (which you can turn off from your OzBargain settings page), but knowing the IFrame causing it might help us to tell the upstream and supplier what the problem is.

This is why you need to subscribe to a OzBargain Gold membership. No ads or background bitcoin mining.

Better get Platinum - it includes 24/7 support as well. :)

have you tried OZB in another browser?

Chrome, and other browsers, have measures in place to prevent websites/tabs from doing stuff like this, i'd be surprised if it's actually OZB.

  • a website that looks like it was coded in 1999 cannot slow your computer if you bought it after 2005

    Download more RAM

Map your pagefile to a null device.

  • Start using Brave

  • It's because you have way too many ozbargain tabs open jokes. I felt it yesterday too
