  • Ehhh, er yeah mech disc, 30mm fork, rims made of wet cardboard.

Most kids bikes under $800 with discs are mechanical. Not sure what info gave you the wet cardboard idea?
Personally although the price is pretty good comparatively, I’m not a fan of any kind of suspension on bikes 24inch and below (unless your kid is a complete shredder).
For bikes that size look at something with a ridged fork and plus sized tires then run them at a lower PSI as this will give a softer ride without the extra weight of a suspension fork.
I’d also go as far as saying although disc brakes are a better option, I wouldn’t get too hung up on this. Rim brakes are more than capable at stopping a 30kg child, even when wet. They are also way more forgiving when learning how to use handle bar brakes.

      • These are about getting the big-bike look — forks, discs and 2.35" tyres in a package that should be a cut above the dept. store BSOs.

      • can you please give some recommodations? specific - scott 24 inch is around 749

        • I'm sure @dan76n would agree, this candidate matches their description to a T.
Light, rigid frame, rim brakes and simple 1x drivetrain.

On the other hand, I would seriously consider something really cheap from BigW (around $120) or cheaper used bike as they'll outgrow a 24" in a few short years.
I'd set it up very carefully though, use threadlock etc.

  • 13kg, no thanks

  • Does anyone have experience on Vuly bikes compared to store bought (e.g. 99 bikes)? Looking for a 40cm/16in bike.
